3D printed parts on SmD

Recommended Posts

Hi there,
I noticed with the lack of xs and xxl parts for SmD, people are 3D printing busts. The only thing I'm worried about is the effect on the vinyl.
Has anyone used 3D printed parts on their dolls? I would think the FDM material could be too rough and scratch up the vinyl, even if the print was sanded, but I've also seen a lot of positive reviews on them.
I'm interested in more bust sizes but don't want to potentially cause deterioration over time.

Any help or advice would be appreciated 😄

A smooth surface will always be "beneficial", of course! There is even the possibility of lining the underside "contact" point with some tape, if you want.

3D printing is a great idea, and with new materials coming out all the time for printing, it's probably not too far in the future that you'll find more flexible and less abrasive

material for our Kiddos.

Good luck!

Oh yes! I completely forgot that you could line it. I saw that some people do that with silicone busts. That is an awesome idea~

I would love to get back into 3D printing once the house is set up for it. I want to drill a hole in a wall so any fumes can vent outside with resin printing.
It's too bad that resin printing is so stinky, because it has such great results!

You "could" use an existing window for a vent, I've used a piece of plywood to fill in the extra space that's left over. (cardboard is a cheap, temporary substitute, also!)

And, Resin printing fumes can be toxic, too! So venting is really important!!

I'm just trying to be fancy and make it look extra nice 😛

Absolutely! I bought a pretty heavy duty mask and eyewear for it. I love the look of the mask actually lol.

Late to the party…

@onion6@

Two of my SmD girls are wearing a PLA bracelet for months and no stains have appeared. (PLA is blue) Gold PLA does stain so be careful with that.

I've also had no staining with PLA items on my cinnamon toned SmD. I've sold a lot of PLA items for SmD in my Etsy store and had no complaints about staining from customers.

Good to know it works with other colours too.
Be careful with gold PLA because some of them contains metallic glitter that can stain.

I have used some items on Cinnamon and Milk skintone. Also in DD White.
