Newbie Questions

Hello,

Hoping someone can answer a couple of questions for me. I'm about to get my first Dollfie, found a couple of 2nd hand ones I like the look of and I'm about ready to pull the trigger.

They are older models with the base body III. I would like to know if this body is compatble with current replacement body parts and hands.

There is some slight yellowing to the vinyl. Is this something that can be easily removed?

Also if there are any other points you might think are worth mentioning about them, please shout up, any advice is much appreciated.

DDIII bodies are compatible with the currently available hands and busts, and probably other external parts, but not with any of the f3 internal parts, including the wrists. If you check Volks' site, they will list which bodies a part is compatible with, including older versions. Edit: Coolcat sells replacements for some DDIII internal parts.

Yellowing can be undone, but it's a more complicated process than I would recommend for a new owner, and would also remove the face-up on a head. If it's not too severe, I wouldn't worry about it.

Get a bodysuit for your doll if you're worried about staining, but also try to accept that it's not foolproof. For example, the hands can stain if they stay in contact with the outside of a dark outfit. White clothes won't stain, though, and it's very unlikely to happen with pastels.

So my Dollfie arrived and I want get her some extra hands. Which hands do I get her? The normal ones, or the large version?

She is Lucy Maria Misora 1st. I think she is the old white skin tone. I've not seen any hands in white so guessing semi white would be the cloest match.

For size, normal is better unless you want her to look like a ONE PIECE character, or if there’s a particular hand shape you want that only exists in large size (heart hands comes to mind, but the shape of some of the larger-sized hands is different from their normal equivalents, like fist hands).

For skin tone, unfortunately white and semi-white are noticeably different enough that it will probably bother you. White has a yellow hue while semi-white has more of a pink hue. Unless you plan to keep her in long-sleeved shirts to hide the contrast or you plan on buying other semi-white skin Dollfies, I would forgo any extra hands, or try to buy white ones secondhand from Mandarake if you can find some for a decent price.

Thank you for the advice about the size and the color matching. I'm going to hold out from buying the semi white and try to bag some secondhand ones in white, mismatching is something that really does bother me.

Not being a stick in the mud, but I've had zero luck finding white-skin anything for either of my Alters. 

Long-term, I'm considering having both their heads "blushed" to match the Semi-White, and buy the Semi-White bodies for them. 

That way, I'm somewhat sure of being able to find hands that I'd need for them, in the near future at least!

Oh damn. It's a shame white option parts are so rare. I'd be more inclinded to try lighten the semi white hands somehow.

I was lucky to he able to snag extra white hands for my Alter before they were discontinued, but then I picked up a Lucy 1st head only after the discontinuation when there was little hope of acquiring a white body for her. However my intention was to make her younger anyway by putting her on a smaller body. The DDP was the size I was after, but they first started making them after they had started phasing out white skin so there aren't any of those. I was able to use a proxy to buy a 50cm Obitsu super whitey body from the Japanese store. The super whitey tone is sort of between Volks semi white and white skin. I have seen people put semi white heads on a super whitey body and it didn't look weird in photos. But I find that the super whitey is a touch lighter and more yellow toned than semi white, and is still a touch darker and less yellow toned than the white skin. So Lucy's face is a tiny bit pale on the super whitey body, but in clothes it's not that noticeable. It actually causes an optical illusion that the body is paler too.

Anyways, since the Obitsu 50cm hands aren't big enough to use on a full size DD this anecdote doesn't help you specifically, but I thought I'd put it out there for anyone else trying to match an old white skin head if they're willing to use a smaller body.

Hands often come up on Mandarake but I've not found any I could use (all my girls are flesh except for one tan girl). It might be worth setting up some email alerts but I'm not sure how economical it is to just buy a set of hands. If I put another order in and they have white hands I'll pick them up for you.

I'm confused about the regular and large hands too. Towa seems to have really big hands.

I hope your girl came with "useful" hands. My Kizuna came with closed fists, which aren't terribly useful 😪.

DDIII body is compatible with DD-f3 wrists. I've been gradually upgrading all of my IIIs to have f3 wrists, they fit just fine.

Personally, I only use large version hands on DDdy. They uh.... just work better for me 🤣

Be careful about where you display white skin dolls, my saber alter's head yellowed much faster than her body due to receiving too much sunlight 🥲

Coolcat still has a *cough* handful of old white skin hands, but they're more expensive than direct from volks (not like that's an option now)

She arrived with the H-01 hands but I have no idea if they are the large version or not. They are useful-ish for holding things, like the little phones I have, but she can't grip something like the 1/3 scale tennis raquet I have despite it been lightweight. The H-06, H-08, H-10 versions would be much better for the job.

I've got the alerts set up on Mandarake for the hands but like you say, the ecomonics of buying just 1 pair might not make much sense.

Thanks for mentioning that Coolkat still has some white hands, I've had a look there and the types I'm wanting have no price next to them so I'm assuming they sold out.

Coolcat are really good. I ordered some stuff for Towa from them. It arrived really quickly and we got a couple of really nice freebies. It's a shame their lingerie sets are mostly sold out because one of them is Towa's #1 grail item. I don't think they'll ever remake them though.

Omg I am looking for a Dollfie sized tennis raquet. I bought a very old tennis set for Towa but it didn't come with either a raquet (or a ball). I might have a go at 3D printing a raquet. It wouldn't be too difficult to 3D print one but what I'd really like to do is to drill tiny holes in the sides so I can actually string it up with thread. That might drive me mad though, but it would look really cool.

By default, DDs usually come with the standard size hands, not the deka-version. As she's second hand, there's of course a chance they got swapped out, but it's not overly likely.

Imo the deka version looks obviously oversized, even on the largest vinyl girls. If she looks like she has man-hands, they are probably deka.

Thank you both for your input. I did spend some time studying both versions of the H-01 hands and came to the conclusion she has the standard ones based on how the pinky finger looks.

I'm probably going to order a couple of sets of the gripping hands in semi white in the new year and investigate painting them if the mis-match bothers me too much.

Deka hands have more fine line detail too.

Deka is short for ‘dekai’, which means ‘huge’ in Japanese. I believe they’re just called ‘large’ on Volks USA.
