Dollfie Dream 20th Anniversary Project

Confirmed for 2023, the project has a site up now. The RinLen Reboot is part of this.

There will be 20 things in total, confirmed so far is a movie/video (maybe about DD history? Would be awesome to see a doco!), special anniversary goods, DD (and SD) Best Selection poll, return of the gacha, most excitingly (for me) a fan survery for characters you wish to see as DDs (hopefully available online), and a special anniversary version of the usual DDFes.

Ah, exciting! I'm glad they're doing it next year, sometimes they seem to celebrate the anniversary one year off? So it'll be the year I turn 20 as well 🎉

I wish they'd do Best of the Bests for DD like they do for SD (instead of Best Selection) but I'm curious to see who the lineup will be~ hopefully no one abundantly available secondhand lol.

No mention of the Dollfie Café is interesting to me though, I thought it might be one of the headliners for 20th anniversary. 

Forgot to mention - there are 20 things, and the remaining 13 are TBA. I imagine they will announce more throughout the next year. Really excited to see the rest of the announcements. Edit: I imagine the new MDD body might be one of the things?

@Emil: I don’t know if it’s what you meant, but Miku Reboot,  Arle 2nd and the Ranko rerelease were DD Best Ofs chosen from the poll they did a few years back, so technically they have. Miku was identical other than her f3 body, but Arle 2nd came with more puyo plushies and Ranko had a different outfit.

I have no idea what to choose to write on that poll.. I feel like Konosuba's Aqua would be the most realistic, but I don't want to write her in if I feel she's likely..
my other choices are all equally unlikely; Sailor Saturn/Hotaru Tomoe, Alphinaud , G'raha Tia. My dream would be Princess Tutu and/or Ahiru or the Magic Knights from MKR.

It’s 1am and I’m way too exhausted to explain everything in detail, but here are pics of the extra edition Volks News that was passed out at the end of yesterday’s Dolpa 48.

Basically there are 20 events planned, and seven have been revealed.

1. Kagamine Rin/Len Reboot (+ carrying case)

2. 20th Anniversary Movie

3. 20th Anniversary Goods

4. Dollfie Best Selection

5. DD Product Questionnaire (suggest a character for them to make into a DD)

6. DD Gacha Premium Renewal (updated gacha prizes)

7. DD Fes 20th Anniversary Ver.

The stuff on the back is for the Dollfie 25th Anniversary Project. SD is turning 25 and DD is turning 20, hence the mention of both 20th and 25th anniversaries.

For the 25th anniversary, there’s a Dolpa Dollar Hunt(?), audition for Dollfie models, new photo studios(?), SD faceup lessons and a private party at Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto, and presents for VS/VIP members.

Please god let 2b and 9s be part of the best selection sale. I want them so bad 

I'll be writing in power from chainsaw man and ryuko and mako from kill la kill on the poll. They would be beyond perfect

I'm hoping for a CCS Sakura from the new doll vote, and a Rise re-release for the Best Selection.

They’ve done the Dolpa Dollars before! Basically a bunch of dealers would get them and purchases at certain dealers (or the sumika shop) at Dolpa got you one per whatever yen spent. They’re cute little paper notes with the Komame cat on them, and the currency is ‘Qn’ (or Qun? From ‘kyun/‘cute’). These could be exchanged at a special store within Dolpa that was mostly older releases of clothing, furniture etc. It was a cool way to basically get some items for ‘free’ (through accumulated purchases of other items anyway). It was spread out over several Dolpas so people had time to collect a bunch.
I still have one of my notes somewhere because I wanted to keep it as a cute souvenir…

I have mixed feelings about Rin/Len having just bought Rin 1.0 for 180000 JYP. I knew there was a risk of her being re-released. However, I thought this wasn't too likely due to vocaloids really plunging in popularity. I think that anime is the way forward for Volks. I don't know Attack on Titan, but it was popular enough to appear as a skin in Call of Duty (which is definitely not known for anime crossovers). I'm also a huge fan of Spy x Family and I thought Volks would go all in on this one... personally I think it is the greatest TV show I have seen in the last 20 years except for the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

If Volks re-released an older Dollfie I'd like to see Chii from Chobits rebooted as a DD.

Failing that maybe they could go all in on Genshin Impact.

Hopefully they'll release a new book. I have 7th Dream from their 7th anniversary of Dollfie Dream dolls. It's clear they used to do a lot more licensed characters in the old days than they do now.

Project Sekai is currently one of the most popular mobage on the App Store. (In the music category it’s actually currently at #1 in Japan) Rin and Len are also set to have their 15th anniversary (Meiko and Kaito had their dolls announced for theirs). Plus, since it’s part of the DD 20th anniversary celebrations, it’s likely the reboot was highly requested. Yes I did think a Rin/Len re-release was on the cards. I have no regrets about buying my Rin though. Re-releases just stoke demand (as in Emilia and Miku).

Now Rin is re-released I'm also less worried about putting my Rin in her default outfit.

I've also picked up some other awesome girls this year. Kizuna AI is extremely underrated. Asuna (Titania) was an unbelieveable find as I thought she was unobtainium. My D-H-21 Mochi-Ashi tan elf eared MDD is god-level Dream Choice. And my Kirika might arrive tomorrow 😍.

They didn’t say any of that at Dolpa so I don’t know where that person got their information from. We were actually expecting them to say something about the fate of MDD and the Dollfie Cafe line they teased in the summer, but nothing.

I'm shocked they didn't talk about the MDD and Dollfie Cafe thing, I thought they were going to announce what was up with those in December...guess we'll have to wait till January.

I think the best selection sales is a fantastic idea, but omg I'm so scared they'll re-release Yuki Morikawa. White Album isn't popular at all but her sculpt definitely is and there's just no way I would be able to resist her but I have no more room for 1/3 dolls!

I hope everyone else gets a 2nd chance to get their favs though! I can't wait to see who the lineup is!

I wouldn't worry too much about cancelation. They haven't announced the discontinuation of anything except base bodies, so I really think this is more about the internal frame than the vinyl shell. If they were canceling busts & hands, along with heads that only fit chibi characters, then I'd be more inclined to think it's a total upgrade of MDD into something else. In addition, why eliminate a body size that helps drive sales of MSD sized outfits and shoes?

We might not hear what they have planned until base body stock is sufficiently depleted.

Hatsune Miku is like legal cocaine...

I'm just waiting to hear that Japan has built a singing & dancing Hatsune Miku android and she's going on a world tour. You know someone over there is working on it for sure. 😅

If Volks did Genshin DDs I would be so SO sunk. There's so many characters in that game I ADORE. Like. . . I have over 15 characters level 90 because I like doting on them. And I'm already making a custom 1/6 Tinyfox into Paimon. 

As far as the licensed characters. . .yes and no? I feel like the overall number of *dolls* is the same, or technically higher if you go back before pre-orders were a thing, but the number of *licenses* is lower. Seems like they used to take a ton of licenses and do a couple dolls apiece, but now they take a smaller number of licenses and absolutely camp them with multiple dolls. Sometimes this is great for fans of the license's supporting characters (like Sailor Moon), but this trend has also given us the infamous Saber Face Problem, because Type Moon is apparently the one license that just will not die. 

I'm so excited to see what they bring with the best collection and the new gachas.  

I'm curious to see how the votes/surveys go for the DD, I have to say I hope it's not a certain bounty hunter, as I think I'd have a bit of an identity crisis in that event.

Y'know, back in my day there was one Saber. ONE!  And she was so expensive, we snot-nosed brats with piddly pocketmoney didn't dare hope to own her.

 

...There is something about having five-ish editions of her and seeing them pop up for cheap on Mandarake now that never fails to make me chuckle. She's a lovely girl, and deserves to multiply now and again.

I've only got two Sabers...  Of course, nearly all of my Type-Moon DDs are based on Takeuchi designs, so there may be some similarities.  

Don't hate me, but I want an updated DDS Nero, but not as much as Mordred, with an optional butler outfit.
