Dollfie Dream 20th Anniversary Project

I was thinking I'd want the book if it has Vocaloid photos (I've tried to collect the Volks News issues that have Vocaloid photos as well) and also photos of my children Alphinaud & Alisaie, even though I was a bit disappointed with the dolls... but photos could still be nice to look at 'cause at least the outfits & weapons are nice. But then as I read further, I notice:

"Payment method: Credit card, UnionPay online payment" and "Cannot be ordered with other products"

... so I wouldn't be able to pay for it because Volks webshop hates my card & would have to ask my boyfriend for help (again), and I'm also not tempted to pay expensive DHL shipping for just one book. So I guess I'm not pre-ordering it. ^^; Well maybe I can find it sometime later on Y!J or somewhere else. I mean, I get why PayPal isn't available for doll pre-orders because that's a lot of money Volks could be out of if someone decides to scam them, but come on Volks, this is a book... ;-;

It's actually a bit funny that Volks and Square Enix webshops are consistently places where I have issues with my card. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't, hah. ;-;

I think you can’t combine it cos it’s a preorder item - most online stores don’t allow combining preorders if they don’t release at the same time and combining it with any in stock item would mean having to have those items held until the release date (which could be pushed back too, although unlikely). You can probably add it to in stock orders normally when it’s released (although I don’t know if the payment options will change) I would hope an anniversary book is around for longer than just a preorder period, anyway!

I personally just don’t want to preorder a book that doesn’t show any sample pages at all. They even show sample pages of the volks news issues on the web store, so I’m surprised there isn’t any for this? (Not yet, anyway)

Yeah, I’d like to see some sample pages too. I’m interested in the stuff on faceups and styling, but if it’s the same information you can find online for free then forget it.

@Monty Yeah, I understand that Volks has a policy regarding pre-order and lottery items. They didn't allow you to combine Kagamine Rin & Len if you won both in the lottery when they were first released (not sure about the Reboot pre-order since I didn't follow it personally, but I assume you weren't able to combine them then either). But I think that I am allowed to vent & feel disappointed by their policy. Maybe it's because I started with resin dolls from Korean companies in early 2000's and those companies tended to be very flexible with combining orders or adding stuff into your existing order, so then I feel bummed when I remember that some companies aren't (able to be) that flexible.

But yes, Volks is a Japanese company and the Japanese have a very specific way of doing things. One could argue that Amiami and Hobby Link Japan are able to hold your items for you, but obviously the scale of business that they work in is much bigger compared to the doll department of Volks. So yeah, I can understand where Volks is coming from, but I am still disappointed I can't get my book. xD

I might get book if it stays in stock till I want something else. Don't feel like paying the 14€ DHL customs fee for only a book :')

I would hope you don’t miss out just because you can’t preorder. It would be really weird to me if this was a preorder only item, since I don’t think any of the other DD books were. I was assuming it would be treated the same as any regular in-stock item after it’s released (with the exception of the PO bonus postcard), but obviously I have no proof of that until it is. Tbh it’s also kind of weird to me the book has a preorder at all, unless they want to gauge demand for printing…? (Which would be unfortunate since the lack of images/single shipment only does make preordering less enticing for people who may otherwise be interested, overseas members especially)

The Super Dollfie anniversary book is still available, but I don't remember it having a preorder; it was just released (I could be misremembering, though). It would be strange if this one was preorder only.  The listing does show a "preorder bonus," so that may mean it will be available as a regular release on July 2. They may be holding a preorder event to gauge interest in this book. Maybe they printed too many of the SD book, and don't want to end up with stock they can't sell.  Of course, this is just speculation on my part.

I'm a little disappointed that the bonus is just a postcard. the SD book came with a 20-page doll-sized book that had some of the pictures from the larger book.

That explains it, I thought it was 25th. 

I wish the DD one had a mini book too! It would have worked great with the new book holding DD hands…

Dolpa is on the 28th of July, so the after event is probably around mid August. I would hope there would still be books in stock a week or so after the release so they can be added to After Event orders, but who can say.

For anybody with FOMO, I've found a whole load of old Volks books on Mandarake. They don't get particularly rare. We also have the one where a guy takes a DD on an adventure around Japan.

Probably a better purchase right now are the current crop of Frieren books. The one with the jigsaw and cutout game pieces is an epic collectible (and doesn't cost very much).

Looks like Kaede is confirmed as the first doll rerelease officially tied to last years poll (according to the newest members only blog post) There’s no photo or info yet other than this confirmation of her coming out at the next Dolpa and being in the next Volks News, and being called ‘Kaede 2nd’. Previous Im@s rereleases have had new outfits/faceup updates, so I’m curious. If Volks News is on Monday like I assumed, there might be a preview of her on twitter tomorrow.

Anyway, since I like keeping track of this kind of thing, here is the results of the anniversary polls and surveys so far.

Are the different body types treated as their own separate categories, so we can choose a doll to be made/re-released for each body type?

I would be really interested to see what Volks does with DDP if so.

From what I understand, anything besides a DD was lumped together in a single poll sadly.

Like PlasticJester said there was only polls for DD and ‘everything else’, although I do kinda hope (maybe in vain) they might choose at least separate DDS and MDD winners from the character request survey just because the applicable characters would be so different. I think a DDP release from either poll is very unlikely unless the specific requested character really, really needed it and the rights holders wanted it - but I can’t really think of an applicable character (and they’ve put characters I would expect to be DDP on MDD before after all) 

I thought all these winner dolls would come out in 2024 but I don’t know how likely that is either. It seems like the FF twins will be this years preorder, so maybe December will have another winner or two…? It seems weird to have two Dolpas in a row with only 1 DD though (Aqua was the only one in spring), so there is a chance there is a second DD for July Dolpa theyre leaving as a surprise…? I’m not holding my breath, I was just a bit surprised by that.

I’m thinking it’s going to be next Monday. If it was this week, it would have arrived by now.

By Monday I meant this coming Monday (17th). They tend to drop a teaser on the DD twitter the Friday before the new issue. I was assuming it would be the 17th because it’s supposed to be out ‘mid June’, but the Monday after that is the last week of June.
(They did also tend to confirm on twitter the release date the Wednesday before, which was yesterday, but I noticed they didn’t do that for the previous issue.)

I'd really recommend checking it, at least if you like the girls with guns genre.

I suspect it’s a combination of who got the most entries out of the series Volks could successfully get licenses for, so it may not be that they got the most votes overall, but that they got the most votes out a smaller pool of possible doll candidates.

That's a good point, the character had to be something they could license, so some write-ins would never have been doable.
