Having used the quite similar EOS 60D until recently, I'd say these cameras still have it in them to deliver beautiful images. I switched to an R7 at the start of the year, which has a lot of features that help you get more keepers, but the feel of the images themselves has not changed much, as I'm using the same lenses.

Is there a specific reason, why you set the aperture value that high? - f/16 and above sounds like it will give you excessively soft images due to diffraction, especially on APSC and for close-ups. Didn't you mention a while ago, that your lens feels too soft? Maybe this is the reason?

Unless you need the extra depth of field, maybe try around f/8 (or even wide open for portraits). That might also enable you to ditch the timer - and go handheld for outdoor shots.

Nothing wrong with shooting on your phone, if you like it. - Definitely easier to carry around. 😁

Canon has pretty good manuals that should tell you everything you need to know. - Definitely recommend to work through it and play around with the Camera accordingly. You can also get a PDF version from their website, so you can load it onto your phone or an e-book reader.

The 28mm might be a good starting point for indoor doll photography. I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 that is tremendous fun for doll photos.

Remember, the 760D is APSC! 105mm will be extremely tight on the smaller sensor. Even 50mm is challenging for indoors, if you don't have enough space to stand back. For outdoor doll photography, any of what you have should work great - depending on what look you're going for.

Ah, of course, you are correct. I shoot Nikon's so I didn't equate the camera model to a sensor type, but yeah unless the lenses are for APSC, they will be tighter on the cropped sensor.

It took me forever to give up film, so I went with a full frame sensor to match all my lenses and forgot that APSC was even a thing. XD

I also have the EF-S 60mm macro lens. It's a beautiful portraiture lens with amazing bokeh. I haven't used it so much for doll photography as I have to stand quite a way back from them to use it, which is a hassle both indoors and out.

I've not played with the DSLR yet but have been messing around with lighting. Made some white filters for the lights and been experimenting with where they work best. Going to post up a few of the recent pics that have come out ok.

I've not given her a name yet, everyone says she reminds then of Wednesday Addams but I think that's her outfit. I am thinking of calling her Suiyoubi as I am reliably informed by google translate that is Japanese for Wednesday. 🙄

If you mean the props like the phone, I make them myself with my 3D printer.

Suiyoubi is very cute, but she looks to have a touch of tsundere so might not appreciate being called cute.

I bought a green screen from Amazon. We've had mixed results so far. Usually dolls with shorter hair work better. I think it's cool that the CapCut AI recognises dolls as being human, so it can cut them out from the background.

My tribe wore out my Canon EOS so we now have a Sony ZV-E10. It's primarily a movie camera but does take fantastic photos too.

We are pleased she eventually came to live here. it was a long, strange trip, I first saw her as a head on ebay but wasn't prepared to pay £200+ to get her here. She was for sale by 3 different sellers, all using the same poor quality pictures. I watched all of the listings then in the space of a week they all vanished and I never saw her again. I did save some of the images from the listings with a view to getting a custom head done like her in the future. It wasn't until about 8 months later I was looking at DD heads on Mercari and about 16 pages in I saw this head I vaguely recognised. Although a different picture, the rest of the photos on the listing were the same ones I had seen on ebay. She was only ¥9500, much cheaper than the ebay price so I got her and felt warm and fuzzy for the rest of the day 😊

I like the older DD's. I finally got my hands on a To Heart 2 uniform for my Lucy.

That's a great look for Lucy. We have a few of those outfits. It was actually the first outfit from Japan that I ordered for Towa back in late 2020.

I'm pleased I got her it, there has been a few for sale but I've never managed to get it until now. I think she looks awesome in it and will probably be wearing it for a long time to come.

My first Azone doll arrived yesterday from Amiami. Yuyu Shirai from their Another Realistic Character series.

 

My second Azone girl, Kurumi Tokisaki arrived today. I'm really quite impressed with my new Azone additions.

I didn't put her hairband on, a stitch came out so I need to repair it.

Last week one of my grails appeared on ebay. I've wanted an anime SmD Prowess for a long time. She arrived on Saturday.

Waiting on a few bits and pieces for her and some different wigs to try. Named her Nyah.

I repaired Kurumi's headband today and got some more photo's of her when the light was better this morning.

I spent a day adding more display space for my dolls. There were 10 in front of the window that I really had to move as it gets hot there in summer. I put a huge 1.9m shelf up above my bed. With them all moved I could finally open the curtains to let light in so took some pics of them all.

and there is 5 more on top of their wardrobe.

Kurumi and Yuyu are the smallest and the only ones to fit on the small shelf

I put all my Smart dolls together

and took a pic of my 3 Touhou girls, Youmu, Reimu and Marisa since they had not yet been photographed together.
