baldylox Posted February 16, 2012 Hello Hoihoi! You *are* quite small aren't you? Welcome to the site you two. I hope yall can get comfy here and share your adventures! What kind of camera do you have? Is it an autofocus one like a "point and shoot"? Or are you using a cell phone type? It seems you need a little more light to pick up some lost details in pics of Hoihoi. I know by just using basic lights besides the camera flash made a big difference for me and my pics. And you might possibly try some different focus points with the camera too, just to see how pics of her turn out. if you have a digital camera, take LOTS of pics! Digital film is free so don't worry about how many you take. Take tons and then choose the nicest ones from the group. I do this for every shoot I do and it helps for sure. I may take 100 pics or more and then delete half of them due to not liking how they turned out. Try out some stuff and let us know how it works out for you! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I know by just using basic lights besides the camera flash made a big difference for me and my pics. that would be one of these: Say hello to the vivitar vivicam 5024 - at around £25 [$39] its a cheap camera - and it shows. While inexpensive its very limited in functionality, and it gets very battery hungry if you use the flash, video recording - just about everything [and thats with Duracells as well!]. It has little to no shutter control , aperture, or focus - basically it does what it says on the tin..... which is it takes pictures - so long as its outside, with lots [ and i mean LOTS] of sun light. there are two possible bright spots thought. for one my big brother has offered to get me "a better camera" for my birthday [what sort remains to be seen. my second option comes from Vodafone - they have a points reward scheme and for one of these - A Sony Cyber-shot™ digital camera W510 what do you think - save up for the Sony? or wait to hopefully get somthing better? Poofiemus Posted February 17, 2012 I'm not very up on individual camera models (kind of did a learn and purge when helping my mom research her new one, a Lumix), but I will say a few things when looking. For doll photography, especially one as small as Hoihoi, check reviews to make sure it's good at macro. Bonus points if you can find a camera that has a true manual mode, because with dolls you've got the time to futz with multiple settings to increase the odds of getting a good shot. Cnet is amazing for all electronics reviews, and thankfully they do include sample shots with all their camera reviews. And one thing you may want to consider now: a tripod. They're magic, I swear. If you're short on money you can jury-rig one out of things like plastic cups and washers. What this will do is allow the camera to keep the shutter open longer in low light, so it doesn't get as blurry or grainy--basically, by keeping it stable, you have a better chance of the good settings not only going into effect in auto mode but of them turning out decent. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
baldylox Posted February 17, 2012 Hey there! Thanks for telling me what you are using. I understand now why you keep saying you can't do much better with pics. It's a camera but like you said, it's basic. As far as what to do about a camera upgrade, that all depends on what YOU want to do. Are taking pics of your girl really important to you? Do you like taking pics? Will you take pics of other things besides Hoihoi? Will you do more if you have a better camera? Do you want another doll or DD in the future? All those questions need to be answered so you know what you want to do. If you like photography and plan to take lots of pics, save up for the Sony. A better camera will certainly help your pictures. But you will still need to spend time taking pics in order to get used to it and to understand how to get better pics. A better camera won't give you better pics right away, YOU have to do the work. And Poofie is right about a tripod. Even an inexpensive one is PURE MAGIC! So if you don't want to do tons of pics and would rather get another doll soon, do the upgrade that your brother is offering and save your money for more goodies for Hoihoi or getting another girl. It's all depending on what you want to do. I hope that helps you a litle bit. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. PlasticFantastic Posted February 17, 2012 One important thing to remember when picking your point and shoot: Digital Zoom is bad, Optical Zoom is good! Anyway, I went looking and I found that Sony Cybershot you like for CA$80 and it's available.. If you can find an adaptor for your power thingers over in Europe-land and have the cash, I can order it in for you and shippy ship it overseas (about $20-$30) Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! macloud Posted February 17, 2012 sorry for not awnsering your post at the same time - at the time i was starting dinner. As for dolls other than hoihoi? to be honest im a carer, and that restricts me a hell of a lot [ because i claim carers allowance i cant work more than 16 hours a week and can earn no more than £100 [$158] a week maximum] add to that my carers allowance only enttitles me to £57 [$90] a week and my part time job [1 day a week cleaning job] only earns me £48 [$75] a fortnight. Add it all up and what do i get? not enough to even spare for a DD head, let alone a whole doll but hey, ive got Hoihoi, and shes enough for me for now. And Poofie is right about a tripod. Even an inexpensive one is PURE MAGIC! quoted for truth and used regularly. one question though - what would either of you recomend as the best distance from Hoihoi to use the flash? i tried different distances and they either bleached her out, or didnt give any noticable illumination. thanks for your advice everyone - and baldylox? Hoihoi asks if you can say say hi to the girls for her.

It sounds like the upgrade for free is your best bet for now. I didn't know your monetary status so I wasn't sure if you planned for more girls in the future or not. One question though - what would either of you recomend as the best distance from Hoihoi to use the flash? i tried different distances and they either bleached her out, or didnt give any noticable illumination. This will differ depending on lots of stuff. Things like ambient lighting, room darkness, the strength of your flash on the camera, objects near Hoihoi that are reflective, etc. All I can say for distance is to try different ones and see what works best for you. I am a huge believer in taking MANY MANY photos so I am sure to get something I like out of them. If you take 100 pics and only have one good one, you're still good. It may sound silly but digital film is free. Take as many pics as you can for practice and you'll see your pics getting better! thanks for your advice everyone - and baldylox? Hoihoi asks if you can say say hi to the girls for her. Awwww! I will be sure to tell all my girls hello for Hoihoi! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
