It's meant to be used very sparingly, so you pretty much get a tiny bit of water on one finger, and a tiny bit of wax on another, rub them together and use the result to style the hair. If you do it right you aren't going to see a lot of residue, but it is a product in the hair. You can just rinse it completely out with water though. A little bit goes a long way. It looks fine on DDP, but too large on MDD. Although her hugely oversized eyes are what makes her look weird next to other Volks dolls, they look like they're like 2-3 times the size of a normal large eye.
