Rei helps by modelling some new clothes

Recommended Posts

Well, since Rei's here for a bit while we wait for her clothes (and good enough weather to paint) she's helping to model the clothes that arrived today.

The first is the sweat shirt from TTYA on Etsy. It's actually supposed to be for an MSD, but it fits very well outside of the sleeves being a little bit short. The construction is interesting, there are snaps up the back and the hood is split so you pop the head through the back. I had to use the flash to get all the detail on the shirt.

Next is the new cardigan outfit. I am pretty pleased how it looks on pale skin, since the blouse is definitely a cream instead of stark white. The cardigan is a little harder to work with than I had expected because the collar doesn't go the whole way round. Also, the socks are a cranberry color not black or brown. They also have fluff... I used a pair of doll hose stockings underneath and that may have worked better than white socks because the included outfit stockings are so thin.

Finally there's the middle school outfit. I don't think it fits as well as it could because Rei's waist is thin, but it doesn't look bad.

And, at this point it was decided to stop with the photos for the evening.

I'm guessing the thing on her shirt is supposed to be one of those evil bear things I see around, but it kind of provokes the thought of a cavity monster to me. Like a black tooth gone bad. Don't forget to brush and floss kiddies!

Did the pants come with the shirt?

And the second outfit she has on is very cute. I agree the cardigan looks good on her and I really like that polkadot skirt.

The description said it was supposed to be a monster, but no specifics otherwise!

I actually got the pants off of ebay. They were $5 and came with a tube top shirt. There are a lot of items on ebay from violetheavensky and the pants were the off-white capris. They fit, but are a tiny bit tight on a DDII, but not so much that it looks weird or is pulling seams.

Those are such lovely photos! Your model is adorable. The outfit styles are all so different. Rei is so cute in the casual sporty outfit with the monster shirt. It looks really comfortable. Those boots are so cool! That cardigan outfit outfit is so modern and stylish. It looks great on her. Cranberry socks do make a great accent. The cardigan is a lovely neutral color. The middle school outfit is so beautifully detailed. I like the shiny and matte stripe pattern you can see when the light hits the skirt part just right. That little tie is really cute too.

Thanks Mitsuki. The boots are the Volks ones from the last Dolpa. I'm really pleased with them. They're sturdy and don't interfere much with posing. They're also really fashionably flexible, which is handy.

I prefer the high school dress actually, after seeing them both on dolls. I like that it's longer and has a crinoline. The blouse that comes with the dress is great. It will work well as a piece in other outfits.

I still am surprised how nice the cardigan outfit looks on a white skin girl. And it also has the benefit of being composed of pieces that can be rearranged.

I also HIGHLY recommend the hose stockings (dollmore). A nice thin layer that seemed to protect well against possible staining from the thigh high socks and the boots.

And thanks on the compliments on Rei. I'm definitely looking forward to her faceup tomorrow.

Though I also need to remember to take off the macro lens next time on shots farther than 3ft. I was dog tired last night.

Very cool clothing! I love that first outfit, especially the top. My Rei and Sango would really dig that bear/monster looking critter on the front.

I think that school set looks very nice. It may be a hair wide on her thru the middle but I'm betting you can make that disappear in photos with the right angle and poses. It has nice colors and lines on it, really a cool set.

I'm really wanting to see how her faceup turns out! As you know I love Rei DD's so please make sure to share pics of your finished girl when you can!

I am going to keep those hose stockings in mind for later. I think they are a great idea. I have a couple pairs from Volks but the Dollmore ones look really nice. Thank you for the suggestion.

Yay! I really, REALLY like the Neris default set! One of these days I'll try and find one.

As for lights, you can go cheap and still get good results! I used to use two of these lights:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bayco-8.5-Clamp-Light/14003467

I just used these bulbs to get better colors and light:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/GE-Reveal-Incandescent-60wt-48-bulbs/15040834

Now I know that is a 48 pack set of 60 watt bulbs but I couldnt find the ones I used. I used the 75 watt ones in that same style to good effect. Here are some photo shoots I did using those:

This actually shows how I had the lights set up in the end of the post:

That will give you a good idea of what you can do with VERY basic and cheap lights.

She is so cute in Neris's outfit. She needs some nice treats to put in her basket for a picnic.

Baldylox, did you find that the Reveal bulbs dispersed the light enough? Were they as soft as you would have wanted?

I had been thinking of getting strong led flashlights and using Glad Press'n Seal to disperse the light. It works pretty well on my gorilla flashlight, but only having one light source ends up being really harshly angled unless it's sitting on my head.

Oh, and Neris' skirt managed to get a little tiny stain on her when I was getting it on. Guess I need to find the magic eraser.

I didn't use any type of dispersion method with the two lights I linked to you. I just had one on either side of the girl I was taking pics of and I would angle them to get the effect I wanted. Having two lights was better for the reaosns you list below. And I tried several different bulbs before I found the Reveal ones. Most were too blue or too yellow for my taste but the Reveals seemed to even out the colors. And I also tried several wattages... I tried 60 at first and I didn't get enuff light. I tried 100 and it was too harsh. So 75 was the best fit for my needs.

As I mentioned, I never used any means to disperse the light on my two lights. I knew nothing about that at the time so I just worked with what I had. But the big studio style lights I use now *DO* have dispersion films over the front and help a lot.
