Share your boy/masculine dolls!

I rarely see male or masculine style dolls here, I would love to see what kind of guys everyone has! I would also love to hear what kind of concepts and design ideas people have for their boy characters

In the past, I’ve had trouble bonding with male dolls but recently I’ve gotten many ideas for a male character and would love to turn one into a doll for my collection 😁

Although I swapped the body for a DDdy in the end, my semi-white DC-H-24 used to have a DDS Boy body. I also have trouble bonding with male dolls, and I think my primary issue with the DDSB was how badly clothes fit on it (copium that maybe I'd bond with a DDB instead)... my DDS girl isn't immune to this, some pants and long sleeve shirts are too long and awkward on her as well.

I didn't take as many photos of my dolls back then, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of Alyssum on this body.

You probably don't see a lot of boy dolls on here because male bodies in vinyl are INCREDIBLY hard to get. The only one in 1/3 scale currently freely available is the DDB (and possibly the DDSB as well?), which is only available through Volks's Dream Choice service...which most people need to use a proxy for, which is quite expensive. 😅

1/4 scale has Parabox's boy body, and 1/6 scale has both Azone and Obitsu options, but since most vinyl dolls are 1/3, they're not very photographed on here either!

Boy vinyl fans have to be DEVOTED to the idea of a boy to actually get one, it's very different from resin. And very silly if you ask me!

forgot some boys

Here’s a buncha pics of my boy Kousuke! I haven’t decided on his final look yet but I just had to have this sculpt (ddh25) cuz his round nose and grumpy expression are just too adorable! And boy dolls are so fun for me!
Though it’s true that the clothes issue can be discouraging to some, especially when stuff you buy doesn’t fit the way you imagined, but I’m optimistic that more clothes options will pop up over time, especially as more people over here discover proxy dream choice, maybe some people who sew will get one and help provide for the rest of us? 🤞🏼🙏🏼

I also got the DD Kaito currently in production and I plan to get a tan boy whenever I end up visiting Japan! (we’re planning this summer but it may be next year depending on some things)

I have many vinyl boys, but not all of them are completed or have had official photoshoots. I took a quick photo of some of them as they currently appear on my shelf.

 

Hiroki was my first boy, built in 2014? I think? He's a repainted Nanami head on an Obitsu 55cm based body. I got his body back when you could still just buy them directly from the company. I was never fully happy with the range of motion in the knees, elbows, and wrists though. And after several years the harder vinyl of the arms and legs turned yellow while the torso stayed the same as well. So I a few years ago I made him an uber hybrid by kitbashing the 55cm torso with a DDII set of arms, shins, and feet as well as an Obitsu 50cm set of thighs. I did it that way because the DDII thighs stuck out weird from the hip sockets. There was frame surgery involved to get this to work. Anyways, he was in a photoshoot when he was introduced years ago but I've changed his wig more recently, so here's the most recent on-the-shelf pic.

 

My second boy is Naoto, a modded HDD-05 on an Obitsu 48cm boy body. They don't come at that height but I swapped the leg parts with one of my girls. The modding changed the nose and mouth shapes. There was a period of several years that I was struggling financially, and I picked his head up on the marketplace on the former forum for cheap because the mod was only partially finished. I finished the mod over a long period of time, but I was never super happy with him. I wiped his faceup and have him a new one, as well as new eyes and a new hairstyle last year though, and now I love him. He's got a much more shounen vibe than the rest of my dolls, so he's my nephew's favorite. 

 

Akihiko is my third boy, and my first Smart Doll. He's an Eiji Kai, bought in 2018 when he was still freely available on the site. He is one of my favorite boys and has had a proper photoshoot. He's an oni and prefers to wear wafuku. As a note about clothing, I find that he's the easiest to dress since wafuku can more easily be tucked if it's not a 100% fit. Here's his original look, with the wig he came with and the first set of horns I had. 

 

My fourth boy is Tetsuya, a Visuadoll Takeshi. He does use his original 65cm Obitsu body, which is now fragile with age, so he is only allowed to stand with the support of a stand now. He fell off my shelf and broke both ankles and knees, but luckily I was able to fix him with the leftover parts I was no longer using from Hiroki's original legs. One thing I love about his body though, is that his torso is larger than the other vinyl boy bodies and he is able to wear Volks outfits made for SD13 boys well. Despite the joint fragility I would buy another of these bodies in a heartbeat if I could ever find one.

 

Following shortly after is my fifth boy Tsukasa, who is a Smart Doll Suzaku. I got him during the preorder. I wish I could have gotten Lelouche as well but I couldn't afford both at the time and I liked Suzaku's sculpt a bit more. He is another of my favorites. He likes to wear Wa Modern fashion mostly.

 

From here I'll stop numbering them since I have a three project boys that are too unfinished to have any pictures of, but I acquired them in between some of the remaining boys.

Next up is Chika. He's a modded MDD Konomi head on an Obitsu 50cm boy body. The mod was to remove the mouth. He's not super masculine looking, but his personality is loosely based on Momiji from Fruits Basket.

 

Then we have Kyousuke. I only recently got him to a point that I'm happy with him and his girlfriend Sachie. They went through several eye changes to get to this point. I designed them together, to appear like a normal couple from the same shojo manga. Kyousuke is a HDD-07 on a DDB body. I acquired this body in a split, it was from the SAO Kirito release. I've actually had his head and body longer than some of the previous boys but he wasn't done until later.

 

Then we have Saburou, a Tinyfox Painter X that I bought on a whim long after the initial release. Painter X was styled as a girl but I made him a boy, and the body is sufficiently genderless to pull it off. He's also an oni and wears wafuku. I'm still looking for small horns in the style I want for him, but here he is with Akihiko again, in a new wig and horns.

 

We also have Taiyou, an MDD Marisa head on a Parabox 40cm boy body. He fell together quite nicely as soon as I picked this outfit for him.

 

Next is Ryuusei. He's a DD MEIKO head, and the body is temporarily a Smart Doll boy body, but I plan to swap him to a DDB body at some point in the future. I've only just gotten him together and dressed, and he still needs a haircut. 

 

Finally for now we have an unnamed boy, who is a Smart Doll Gemini. I wasn't able to get him directly from the store since he had a stealth release, but I picked up his head from our marketplace and then was super lucky to get a chaos cinnamon boy body shortly after. I'm not at all happy with this wig and I'm still unsure about the eyes, so that's why he hasn't told me his name yet.

 

Of my remaining three unpictured boys, all three are still undergoing modification and are not close enough to done yet. One is a DWC 02 head on a DDSB body from Len's original release. He's a cat boy and although I have his cat ears I'm still fighting with the sculpt's original human ears vs his wig. One is a HDD-07 on an Obitsu 60cm body. I'm still working his styling and he doesn't have a wig at all yet. Even though I have another 07 boy they are night and day different. And the third is actually a Vindoll that will have very extensive modding to the face. I'm very slow at facial mods so it will likely be a long time yet on that one.

I think I might be a little jealous of you @Jezrah ! I scrolled down your post and thought, 'Oh, this one is cute, I think he's my favorite out of the bunch!' - only to think the exact same thing again and again with each new boy you introduced! If I really had to pick, I think I'm most fond of Tsukasa. I always thought Suzaku had a very beautiful sculpt, but considering the aftermarket prices.. I think I shall keep admiring him from afar!

That being said, I'm currently waiting for my own boy to arrive! Just before Christmas, I was able to pick up a secondhand DDB and in January I made arrangements to get a custom face-up done on a DDH-07 (I think the narrow eyeshape lends itself well for boys/masculine looks!). He's already done and on his way home and I can't wait to show him off to everyone! Most of his clothes are already in order, but it looks like he will have to do with a temporary wig for now.

Actually, I'm already planning to commission the same face-up artist again for another boy. I don't have a separate body for him though. Maybe I'll get lucky on the aftermarket again, otherwise the boys will have to share. Once KAITO arrives I will at least be able to have two of them out and about at the same time.

Thank you! Vinyl boy collecting is a matter of perseverance, luck, and always keeping some funds on hand so you don't miss out. I only have so many because I started many years ago, like before Volks or Smart Doll got in on it. Hence my oldest two boys being Obitsu bodied.

And yay to more 07 boys! I look forward to seeing him! The 07 head is one of my favorites; I have three, two boys and a girl. They're all quite different though.

There are three guys lurking around here, but sadly two of them are heads and only one is painted. Male bodies are hard if you don't go the Obitsu route. But they are planned out.

Aetherios (Smart Doll Gemini on a Mirai body w/ XS bust) is the latest crown prince of Solandir, a once-advanced planet ravaged by nuclear war. Radiation from the fallout has plagued both their lands and fertility rate for generations, and a new ruler is chosen largely based upon their ability to lay clutches of eggs over a lifetime. Naturally, settling down and playing 'Hive' holds no interest for a young adult-something, and he's been playing hooky on selecting a wife for years now. He insists he won't stop until he finds his 'dream girl'.

He's the only one of my vinyls based on a pre-existing concept. I had roughly drafted an idea for an 80s-style anime feature film, and he was one of the main characters. Ergo, his visual concept is solidified in my head, but harder to realize physically. Lots of 70s-inspired Renaissance-style / hippy fashion and glam rock. Big blouses, belts, high-waisted pants, and dangling necklaces. And then there's the hair. That will be a pain. I have one wigmaker in mind, but she's very expensive and lives in Russia.

 

 

Paladin (Smartdoll Lelouche, considering a DDSB body) is a character on which a lot of the stories I've created for these dolls rest, and my unofficial favorite. Ironic, as he was a total impulse purchase. No regrets though. His sculpt has grown on me.

A modern-day mechanical savant in the steam-powered / magic hybrid world of Fiction, he is characterized by his ongoing frustration and bitterness at the selfishness of the world, and his inability to solve its most basic problems, despite all the tools at his disposal. He speaks with a notable German accent, and is an overall loveletter to the early Y2K era of steampunk's rise to mainstream popularity. Curly brown hair, oversized goggles, vest, dress shirt, and high boots, big mecha gauntlets, all that jazz.

 

 

Llewyr (Smart Doll Crimson sharing a Mirai body w/ XS bust) was the only planned one of the three, but I've had the hardest time pinning him down. His hair and eye colours change constantly. It's going to come down to what I can find. Originally I had wanted Crimson in cocoa, but then Danny abruptly discontinued the Eiji sculpt while I was in the middle of saving up. I finally found a tea head last year, and am vaguely hoping that either we get regular release guys in all the colours again, or that the fabled Imomo 68 guy body does happen, and they offer a compatible tan. We shall see.

Consequently, his character has been the hardest to nail down. Aetherios is a physically androgynous alien, and I've made peace with Paladin being the short one. But I've been wanting a Smart Doll guy since they were first announced, and I have a hard time seeing Eiji/Crimson on any other body. The shoulders are not proportionate to his head size. You can fudge it, but he ultimately looks best with the broader guy shoulders. He is currently written in as a mercenary, hired to muck up Paladin's work and steal his prize creation, but his origins are a little... murky. If I can't get my hands on a tea body, I'd like to frankenstein a guy body together. So far I only have a full torso and upper arms, but it's a start. The body will determine where his past lies.

 

While it's a slim hope at best, I'd like to be able to get a full Eiji in grey. The odds of that actually being released to the general public, and lasting for more than a minute are low though. Blue Eiji was a Chaos exclusive, as I recall.

Oh man...I'm someone who really doesn't bond with girls so the majority of my crew is boys 😂 And I just happened to take a picture of the ones I have out in their Valentine's day gear!

I have one more of my DD boys who's put away right now and one who's a head sharing a body lol

He actually arrived over 2 weeks ago, but health issues and other constraints have delayed me posting him. I think I will commemorate him with a big post either in 'New Arrivals' or 'Doll Character Concepts' though, because he deserves it.

So many lovely boys here! Here are some pics of mine, apologies for the poor photo and lighting quality. 😅

First is my Nines, I have him in one of my girls wigs and he rocks it so well. He will have it on until I can get a proper replacement for his default wig. 

 

 Next is my SmD boy Gemini who I've named Gem for now, I might change it later. He's gonna be a Celestial wolf with a subtle galaxy color palette in the future. 💫🌠 

And I have 3 boys on pre order currently who are Kaito, Yuki(Custom Kaito), and Len. Can't wait for imomodoll to release their 68cm boy so I can add more vinyl boy dolls to my growing army.

Very excited to see both Gem once he's complete and Yuki! A galaxy color palette sounds awesome, I'm sure it'd look great and I'm curious to see what you'll do with Yuki as well!

Thanks! Nines looks very cute in pastels, maybe I should get him some proper pastel outfits at some point. I may start working on Gems default look sometime next year since the vocaloid releases killed my poor wallet a little bit. 😩 Can't wait to finally have his final look altogether.

Poor Yuki is gonna have to cross dress for a little bit since I don't have a lot of boy clothes that will fit him properly. 😔

Thanks, he is quite handsome! His long hair kinda makes him look a little bit like A2.

Very cool boy! I love to see sculpted hair on a 1/3 doll and I went on dive through your older posts to see how you made it. I plan to have my boys with sculpted hair to post eventually. 

This is Loid, my Smart Doll boy! He is a modded Lelouch. Normally he would look like Loid from Spy x Family (hence the name), but this is how he looked at first.

Sharing my Nines (DD9S) & Ren (DDH16) here! Both are on volks DDB body.
I hope there's korean style muscular vinyl body, I really like BJD ID75 & SD17/Switch70 bodies.

I don't know about the skin tone matches, but Granado has muscular vinyl doll bodies called Vindoll.

Imomodoll is working on a 68 and 75 cm vinyl boy body, it could work for what you want to do with your boys.

He's a SmD Gemini in Cinnamon, I swapped his eyes for the semireal purple instead.

I have a couple other guys too, SmD Crimson and a DDH07 hybrid atm with a DDB Kaito due uh... probably in August based on how late I ordered lol, but they're not nearly finished enough to share anywhere ;; Maybe eventually though!

All my dolls are boys! By the virtue of being character dolls of my favourites, haha. 

DDsb with DDH09, tinyfox, DF-H chubby boy body + DDH hybrid, Guu doll 62cm body + ZAZ vinyl head and Vings68cm body + ZAZ vinyl head and the 1/6 UFdoll boys.

There's also my other DD boy with DDH03, but he is still getting worked on.
