Color Fasting/Locking in Dyes

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I wanted to ask if anybody has had successes with color fasting using Retayne/Synthrapol for dolly wardrobe.

I'm curious if that will solve the issue of dark-colored fabrics from staining.

I went ahead and started using Retayne on my red and black doll clothes. It's the second day since I washed them with Retayne, and put them on vinyl scraps. I haven't spotted any stains yet. I will update this thread regularly.

This sounds really promising! I look forward to the updates, hopefully it works well. Thank you for the thread!

How fast were the clothes in question staining before the treatment?

They stained one of my dolls in a couple of days, and that was also because it's summer that time. I already put stain prevention leggings on the doll, but on the part that wasn't protected - it got badly stained. These were a pair of black leggings. I should have been wiser to use the Volks skin tape on the waist.

The other offender was a red dress. Took only one day to stain my doll.

What I forgot to mention is that none of these clothes are pre-washed. I used them right off the bat.

Almost end of third day since color-locking the doll clothes in Retayne. Still no spots or stains that I see on my vinyl scraps.

I finally braved it and put the clothing on Yor without a bodysuit. Btw, these aren't her official clothes. They are from independent BJD clothing sellers.

I am willing to risk this test (since I have already successfully stain treated a SW DD in the past). I will regularly check on Yor every few days or so if the Retayne stays true to its bleed-prevention claim.

Oh man, the real test. DD vinyl loves to stain from my own experiences with it, even more than my Obitsus and Smartdolls do. If this treatment works even on Yor, this could be a gamechanger. Excited to see how it goes!

If it can turn a stain monster into something that can be safely used at least for a photoshoot (a few hours)

At least in my experience, it works. I checked Yor just now, being so paranoid that I am. It's been 15 hours since she wore that horrendous combination of clothing. She is still virtually spotless.

Here is a demonstration video I found on YouTube:

I also followed the soaking instructions for Retayne to a T. Before I got Yor to wear those clothes, I put them in the bathroom with vinyl scraps while I took hot showers.

I also did a follow-up test... I'm honestly scared out of my wits, but I will be trying Wednesday's all black outfit next. I'm curious how it will turn out, considering that the chest part of Obitsu is easier to stain than the harder parts.

Happy Tuesday y'all, and happy to report that I have spotted zero staining and/or spots. It's been a week since I did this test with Retayne.

In my experience, I'm still at awe how well it worked. I even made sure the clothing stuck and fit tightly on Yor and had the saddle on her stand make even more friction. Just to repeat what I mentioned earlier - these clothes were not pre-washed before I soaked it in Retayne. These were notorious for staining any part of my doll not covered with the bodysuit/tape.
