Xiongmao Posted February 5, 2023 Does anybody know of any stores that sell Dollfie/Smart Doll sized earrings? I'd prefer something high quality (as in real gold). I did have a look on Etsy but earrings have proven elusive. I'd be far too petrified to pierce any of my girls' ears, but Yor Forger comes with pre-pierced ears, so I feel I should put something in them. Kirika came with earrings too, but I've not put her in her default outfit yet (and I don't think I'll ever pierce her ears). Yor also comes with earrings but I don't fancy doing that hunt for the earrings thing that I've ended up having to do for humans on so many occasions in the past. I don't know if any Smart Dolls have pierced ears. My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
Oculae Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Actually, earrings for humans work just fine in pre-pierced DD ears, come in gold all the time, and look great as long as they're small. Chain here is an Anthy and has human earrings in! I had to repierce her ears in a different location to get these faux-gauges to work (and they're obviously pushing it size-wise), but regular studs are in scale and will work with the existing holes Edited February 5, 2023 by Oculae 3 Please ping me when replying! plasticyears Posted February 5, 2023 This is quite different to what you've asked for, but I typically buy human earrings/jewellery and take them apart for doll jewellery. All you really need are some mini pliers and some jump rings. Necklaces can come with tiny, fine chains if you want to make dangly ones. You can find some really good stuff in second hand shops, especially if you're after real gold/silver/semi precious stone etc. I haven't pierced any of my DDs ears (yet!) but here's my Narin with a cross earring I made: Reveal hidden contents
Xiongmao Posted February 5, 2023 Interesting thanks... never thought of using human jewelery. I'd also love some necklaces and stuff - that outfit Yor is wearing above has a small diamond chain. Towa has a really cool cross one too. 1 My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
ragnamuffin Posted February 5, 2023 I make jewelry for DDs! Planning to set up a shop eventually, but my earrings don’t need the doll’s ears to be pierced. Not ready to advertise yet, but if you want to see them send me a DM.

A friend of a friend has a very successful etsy jewelery site. I will PM you the name whenever I remember it. It's human sized stuff but the theme was super popular. I think it was superheroes or something. There are tonnes of jewelery shops in Brighton so I will take Yor shopping. It won't be the most unusual thing to have happened in the jewelery quarter. MikuFan Posted February 6, 2023 I really like the Kit N Kat earring sets. they use magnets so no need to pierce the ears.
flora Posted August 3, 2023 Thanks everyone for all the great info! I just got my first dollfie head yesterday and I was curious if I needed to cut the posts shorter on the earrings but it sounds like it should be okay to use regular studs. Are baby earrings the same length or would that even be a better fit? I also make earrings so I have the pliers I could cut them off with but ultimately I'm mostly worried about it scratching the back of her head. Does anyone try the dangly earrings as well, and if so, how?
meltychoco_BJD Posted August 3, 2023 Has anyone experienced any risks to piercing DD ears, like vinyl tearing or something over time? I'd assume not, since volks has some per-peirced heads, but I wouldn't know if there's a difference between at-home pierced vs volks' (presumably) machine-pierced ones. Id love to give Nero some earrings, but I'm way too scared to pierce her head since she's not something I can easily replace like a standard model head. ☆⋅⋆ ───FIND ME ON─── ⋆⋅☆ DoA | Twitter | Instagram ☆⋅⋆ ────── ⋆⋅☆

Id love to give Nero some earrings, but I'm way too scared to pierce her head since she's not something I can easily replace like a standard model head. I pierced my smartdoll's ears with a handheld drill and have done the same with multiple resin dolls in the past and I found it much easier to control on a vinyl head compared to resin. When the hole is drilled like that a small piece of vinyl is removed, similarly to factory pierced ears, so there is no stretching when inserting or removing earrings so I don't think tearing is a concern. If you have something like a Rainbow High doll you could probably practice on those. A quick squeeze test of an RH head and an SmD head felt fairly similar to me so that could work for something to experiment on. Does anyone try the dangly earrings as well, and if so, how? With most dolls I've pierced ears on, I pierce into the head so the post doesn't stick out the back of the ear but it depends on how the ears are sculpted. Piercing into the head, like the way fashion dolls often have their ears pierced, is what I find easiest and less risky, plus one doesn't have to worry about the length of the earring post. Quick snap of my SmD with and without earring in. Lighting is bad because it's late and I'm lazy Edit: I mean a hand drill like this NOT an electric drill Edited August 3, 2023 by RiverRealms
flora Posted August 4, 2023 Oh wow that's really cool! I honestly didn't think of the earring post going into the head. That's really nifty!

I've never even seen a DD in real life so I don't know if there's a difference in hardness of the vinyl or how much the ears stick out from the head but I would think it's not too far off from the smartdolls that this would work for DDs as well. If you go this route I highly recommend testing on a cheap fashion doll head with similar hardness to get a feel for how the drill handles before you go at it on your DD's ears. Another option I used on my resin girls is to test drilling on the inside of the head cap.

They stain easier. Circle (Towa) Yui (MDD) Coralie (MDD) 88 (Kizuna AI)
Jezrah Posted August 6, 2023 Each DD head has different ears. Some ears are flatter to the head like a SmartDoll, but some have larger ear lobes that stick out more. For my heads with larger lobes that are pierced I have the backs coming out the back of the lobe like a person, and just clip the posts shorter. You probably could still angle the backs into the head for those ear types, or at least into the interior of the ear structure, but I think it would noticeably change the angle. Some earrings will be more noticeable than others.
flora Posted September 23, 2023 Good point on the angle. I have mdd size and I think that'd be a problem I'd run into. Also a tip of advice, is you have tarnished posts be sure they're cleaned with a silver cleaning cloth because they could leave stains or make the holes more noticable when there's nothing in them. Oculae Posted October 2, 2023 I just found out about another method for DD earrings if you don't mind getting a bit crafty! A lot of Japanese makers use these clear plastic clip-on earring converters to give their dolls earrings without needing magnets or holes! I guess all you need are some human earrings in the right scale (or if you're extra crafty, just a stud with a loop on it and whatever beads and findings you have), and these, and then you just clip the post on the stud short with some nippers and poke it into the hole in there! The plastic bit is small enough that you can just slide it onto your doll's ears from there, like so: You can find these at Daiso, or if you're like me and don't have any near you, they're also on Amazon and eBay for cheap! 1 Please ping me when replying! This is how I make my earrings. They don’t fit on all Dollfie ears, but they fit on quite a few. They’ll also dent the ears with prolonged use, but that can be fixed with a blow dryer, and because of the clear plastic you don’t have to worry about staining.
