This happened to be my case! 😄 

I wanted an Uzuki for a long time but I decided to go with Mio Honda because her sculpt is extremely similar (to the point of people thinking they were the same) yet she was also a lot less popular. I planned on repainting her too so the default faceup didn’t matter to me. Because of this, I got Mio for a bargain! 

Imo I think similar sculpts would also make cute sibling dolls in which they look very alike but aren’t exactly the same. I don’t remember if I’ve seen anyone try this but its food for thought.

I think Shin Sato looks very cute! To be honest I don’t really like the style of faceup and eyes she and the rereleased Uzuki have but I think the outfit and sculpt make up for it! I’m a little surprised shes a DD since iirc most of the other Idolmaster girls were DDS (and Iori & Yayoi being on the DDP)

Oh. My. God. She's too cute!!!! I audibly gasped when I saw her! I was tempted by Yor before but held back due to not liking her fullset, but this girl might just get me. Her whole outfit is perfection (although I wonder how the little hearts in her hair stay put, they don't look like clips 🤔)

If there's no GL logo on her promo images, then she probably won't be members only, right?

There have been DD height idolmaster releases before, there is a rough correspondance to the indicated character heights

Kaede Takagaki (at 171cm) is the tallest DD release so far, followed by Takane Shijou (At 169cm indicated), Shin would be the shortest of the DD girls at 166. The next DDS girl would be Anastasia at 165cm, the shortest DDS character would be Yuriko at 154cm. the tallest DDP being Iori at 153cm, and the shortest DDP Yayoi at 145cm.

other DDS's include from tallest to shortest: Rin at 165, Chihaya at 162cm, Mio at 161, Uzuki at 159cm, Haruka at 158cm, Ranko at 156cm, Yukiho at 155cm

The the cut off heights are supposedly anything above 166cm is a DD, anything taller than 154 is a DDS, and anything below is a DDP, which in my oppinnion was a disservice to Iori, but what can you do.

Depending on the art, Iori's height seems to vary a bit. Overall I would say height-wise she's tall enough to be DDS, but she looks pretty petite when compared to the others so DDP works too. She's nowhere near as petite as Yayoi though.

I am pretty happy with Iori's head on a DDS body. At some point she will go back on her own DDP body, but for now I think the larger body suits her well.

 

Omg Shin Sato's outfit is soooo cute 🥰. I can see Iori demanding I order her immediately.

She does look a LOT like Kizuna AI... I guess she isn't made from unsold Kizuna heads though 😂.

It's almost certain to be click war. Volks does sometimes surprise people with the sales method, but at the Dolpa she's a limited quantity sale, so I'd expect her to be the same online.

Grrrr. I did eventually obtain Yor without too many problems. At least I already appear to have Shin Sato's other outfit - she can wear Uzuki's brown uniform, as Uzuki already goes to around half a dozen different schools 😂.

I don’t watch Idolmaster, but I love this doll. I will have to try for her. I hope the after event isn’t a lottery.

Yeah, I'll have to stalk the JP sites for the outfit on her release, it's way too cute.

My two smiley girls (Uzuki Shimamura and Kizuna AI) are two of my most favourite DD.

If anyone wants Shin (or Sato... not sure what her first name is) there are a few on YJA right now. The number of listings depends on what you search for.

There doesn't seem to be an insane amount of interest in her like there was with Yor and especially Arcuied.

I guess there will be more released in the clickwars, but I just cannot be bothered with the pain of those anymore.

Volks will sell the heart hand parts, normally an Akiba Doll Point exclusive item, on the online store from the 6th to the 31st to celebrate Sato’s release.

Wow, thanks for posting that. I unboxed Shin, then I noticed her box art has those heart hands, so I unboxed everything again.

It kind of sucks Volks would do that, especially as Shin (I think) originally cost most than Ciel, and Ciel comes with spare hands and lots (and I mean LOTS) of swords.

Oh and here's Shin and Uzuki. Are they sisters? I'm not too familiar with the Idolmaster franchise. However I was researching Shin last night and apparently she's 26 years old, which would make her by far my oldest DD. I guess this is also why they made her as a DD and not a DDS. I watched a few of her videos and she's by far the tallest in the lineup I saw.

Back to hands and although I'm not a huge fan of the large hands I must admit Shin is absolutely brilliant at gripping stuff. I'll probably tighten her joints so she can be our go to girl for photos-with-stuff.

I also got shin sato through the click war yesterday, excited for her to arrive shes so cute! I'm surprised to see they haven't sold out yet or have a "only a few left" stock status yet.

It's the detail on the dress that drives the price up in this case imo. They could include hands, but the price would go up another $20.

Yes I did realise she only came with the 08 hands. I've got no complaints because they're excellent for gripping stuff as opposed to the useless fists that Kizuna AI came with. Having said that I've now ordered paper hands so we'll able to play rock, paper, scissors.

I've also ordered the heart hands (and a pair for Yor too).

When I ordered some stuff from Volks yesterday I was really surprised both Shin and Ciel were available. Ciel's uniform was gone, so I'm glad I already have it in the Buyee warehouse.

I guess both dolls aren't quite as popular as Yor or Arcueid.

I'll dress Shin up some time but I'm going to be looking after my sister's cat soon. The dolls are terrified of her so they'll have to wear basic outfits and sit on high shelves for the time being.

Shin will probably do OK in the aftermarket. She's kind of a bigger Uzuki, and that outfit will be very popular. Ciel should do very well - Tsukihime is massively popular and will do even better if they make more English language versions of it.

My cat has pica, so I have to keep him away from anything plastic he might eat. The dolls stay up on shelves.

I think the benefit of Volks including basic hands, and not including a lot of extra hands, is lower cost but you can go and buy the hands you actually want. Not sure why DDS got selected for the fist hands, but is not like the default hands DD come with hold anything either, so I'm not sure one is better than the other. 
 

You'll probably find you'll want several pairs of the ones you use a lot. Sometimes I have a left "paper" hand on Uzuki V1, but then I find Rin needs a left "paper" one too. 

I'm happy she is still in stock as I just found out about her sale,  she looks like Arle's big sister so I must have her but I also adore her cute face. I love dolls with mouths like hers which is very similar to Arle's mouth 😍 dolls like them make me happy 

 

Is anyone putting in for her on Volks USA site?

I'm not sure pleather(?) stains the way fabric does, but considering red is one of the worst colors to stain I'm still too scared to put them on. So if anyone has some feedback on that I'd be very greatful.

I've been considering putting her in some cute frilly socks. It would totally match her aesthetic, but it wouldn't be accurate anymore since obviously she doesn't wear them.

Pleather can stain and the foot vinyl is harder so it takes longer to stain treat. I don't know if those shoes in particular stain.  

I got my girl and I LOVE HER!! she is stunning in my eyes, I'm so happy she is part of my family 😄 my little nephew and niece love to touch my dolls and play. When they saw her they fell in love with her. I'm still thinking of a name and I'm deciding whether to keep the face up or give her a new one.

Pleather badly stained my Kirika's neck. I was able to restore it but I'm very wary of it now. Feet are easily replaced though in case of tragedy.

I am really warming to Shin. I really like the happy smiley DD. I need to find the right wig for her and then she will really rock.
