15 years of doll collecting and I've finally delved into dangerous new territory...

Hi! 

So I never thought I'd end up delving into this side of the doll collecting hobby, but here I am! My name is Haley, I'm 28 years old and I've been collecting dolls for 15 years, although I've loved dolls in general all my life. 

My collection started out with Pullips, which have always mostly been my primary way of shelling my OC's. I got my first Pullip 15 years ago last month, and so I consider that the start of my time as a doll collector and not just a kid who loved dolls. I have a large collection of Pullips as well as a very large collection of Monster High dolls that have been my primary collection focus for a while now. I also collect vintage Barbies and Rainbow High dolls. I have a couple of resin BJDs as well. I got my first in probably 2009, but ended up selling him a few years later and decided BJDs weren't for me. Then I saw a sculpt I fell in love with and I had to have him, and then I got another that I loved a little later. Still, they don't get nearly as much attention as a lot of my other dolls and, despite being super active in doll communities over the years, I was never really as interested in BJDs. 

So, because of this, I figured I would never get super into Dollfie Dream either. 

Well, the problem is, I'm also a Miku enthusiast. I have a very large Miku figure collection. Other Vocaloids too, but 95% Miku. I have dozens of figures of her, and so it was only a matter of time before I decided I needed to get DD Miku too. What better way to merge my hobbies, right? I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. When Kaito was up for preorder my non doll friend sent me a link to him, but I talked myself out of ordering him. DEEPLY regret it, as I think he's one of the cutest dolls I have ever seen. But I told myself that I don't collect DD, and I didn't need to get into another type of doll collecting. LOL. I hope I am able to get him for a decent price after he actually releases. 

I have DD Miku on the way now, as well as some outfits for her, and I have reboot Len on preorder! I probably won't get any other DDs besides some of the Vocaloid ones(I only want Miku, Kaito, and Len. Sakura Miku if fate smiles down on me.) unless they make some anime characters that are near and dear to my heart. But I'm so excited to get into this! I haven't been this excited about anything in a long time. 

It's nice to meet you all! If you've frequented other doll forums for other types of dolls in the past it's possible we've met, as I've been in the Asian doll community as a whole for 15 years, but if not, once again, nice to meet you all! 

Here's a few other things about me: My interests are anime, doll collecting, figure collecting, and various other rotating hobbies. I work in an anime and kpop themed boba tea shop! 

seeing the vast amounts of Miku Merch on offer, I viewed the DD Miku as my workaround to having limited shelf space, so I spend money on new outfits for her rather than buying figure after figure and having no place to display them. That said, I still have a pile of boxes of unopened Miku figures. 

 

 

Welcome!  And glad you made it over this way. It's always neat to see the routes different people have taken to end up here. I can imagine how you feel waiting on your Miku to arrive! Hope you enjoy her and post pics when she gets there!

I love Pullips as well. One of my favorite dolls ever is actually a Groove Sasha - She's basically a Type 4 Pullip body with a rabbit head!

@Mega Negi: That's a valid approach, I only wish I had the self control! I have six detolf cabinets filled to the brim with anime figures as well as some overflow, Miku has her own cabinet and I reserved the top of said cabinet for my other Vocaloid figures but she's overflowed onto there as well so I am probably going to have to allow her to take up space in two cabinets soon, especially as I'd like to display DD Miku on top of the cabinet. Your Miku is adorable, as is her tinier self! ♥️

@Grover864: It's amazing the different routes people can take, I agree! I was reading some other intro threads and thinking the same thing. I definitely will be posting plenty of pictures of Miku when she arrives!

@luckyk: Thank you!! Glad to see another Pullip lover! I remember when Sasha came out. I don't think she was terribly popular then, I was shocked recently to see how much she's going for these days recently when I saw someone looking for one.

 

Welcome - I also got into the DD hobby through wanting a Miku.

I still don't have a Miku so Kizuna AI is my stand in (below right).

I bought a few figures when I visited Japan years ago, but DD are just so cool as you can redress them and they're big enough to have their own personalities etc.

As for Kaito, like many people I ordered him seemingly years ago. There will be many people who have buyer's remorse and will want to sell him as soon as he arrives.

That's good to hear about Kaito! Hopefully I'll be able to get him for a decent price, then! 

YAY!  I'm not the only one that recently got into DDs through getting a Miku!  My story is also here in the Introductions thread.  I joined this forum in December, so I get the delayed love for her vinyl version. 

I too am spending massive amounts of credit card monies creating her wardrobe.  This is the new sweatsuit that just came home for her, along with the wig from the MIKUZUKIN/Miku Red RidingHood outfit.  Its so cool to have an actual Miku instead of one of my resins that would cosplay her! 

Welcome to the forum, its so cool to see another person new to the forum that's also new to vinyl, especially with a incoming DD Miku!  Oh yeah, we have GOT to hang out and talk Miku!  I've seen Miku and the Vocaloids in concert twice, how about you?    I think I saw a Miku discussion thread, I'm trying to find it now so we can talk more Miku.

Your Miku looks SO cute in her sweatsuit! I love that shade of pink on her. The Mikuzukin outfit is probably my favorite one released for her, it's so cute. I have a couple of her outfit sets on the way, but not that one yet. I got others I could find for better deals first, but I definitely hope to get it soon!

I would love to talk Miku! I'll have to look for that thread!

I've never been to a Vocaloid concert. There was supposed to be one here a couple of years ago and I wanted to go, but it got cancelled because of the pandemic. I'm hoping there will be another someday!

I was wondering, how did you "destroy" the bootleg Miku?  It looks like its in a fishtank, which is pretty cool!

It was indeed in a fishtank. The water in the fishtank was slowly destroying the figure (Easycarbo). It lasted for 3 months.
