misskale Posted February 19, 2012 The worst thing is that I feel like I did a reasonable job except there was a tiny stain I couldn't get out even with thinner on her cheek. Is the only thing I can do start over and just strip everything off with brush cleaner? baldylox Posted February 19, 2012 Hey! She's alive! I see the stain you're talking about and truthfully, I have no clue if you can treat JUST that area to remove it or not. What made the stain in the first place? And did you already seal the head/face? I agree that the rest of her looks good tho. I like the eye details and the fact that her blush isn't overdone. Is it just me or does she have some shine to her face? I can't really tell. Regardless, I think it's a good start. I'm hoping one of our faceup experts drops in and can address your questions. I've never painted a DD and I'm really scared to try. That's why I make sure to make friends with people who CAN do faceups. misskale Posted February 19, 2012 Yeah, I see the shine too a little bit on the bridge of her nose and the edges of her eyes. I used the Mr Super Clear Flat instead of the ZM Powder spray just because I was able to get it through Amazon. So, I'm guessing that might have something to do with it. On the how I did it, I nicked her face with the brush when I was working on the second layer of paint, so the face had been sealed twice. I wiped it off with a paper towel soaked in thinner right away, and it just smudged. I put drops of thinner on it, let it sit, put a paper towel scrap with more thinner on it, rubbed... Nothing was making it go away. At that point I decided it would be better to finish the faceup and then have to redo it entirely instead of starting over midway. It seemed sensible since it was my first faceup that wasn't just pastels. I also finished styling the wig by brushing and cutting it. So it's shorter in the back and at the bangs. misskale Posted February 19, 2012 Here's a comparison to the picture I've been using as a reference. With the different light angle it did diminish the shininess a good deal. rei comparison by misskale, on Flickr
baldylox Posted February 19, 2012 Ahh! Very nice! Seeing your side by side, you can see that your faceup is very close to the drawing of Rei. Good job! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
milkytea Posted February 19, 2012 Her faceup looks great! I don't have tips for the smudge, but I hope someone else does~
mitsuki Posted February 19, 2012 Wow, she is so beautiful! She looks just like in the photo. Her hair is perfect too. I don't know how to remove the stain either. I hope you don't have to redo everything to remove the stain because she looks great the way she is.
misskale Posted February 19, 2012 Thanks all. I may try to see if I can do a very localized oxy treatment, since it's not actually overlapping with the blush. Outside of the smudge I was surprised with how easy it actually was in the end.
