DD Vinyl head hybrid on 1/3 BJD body

Recommended Posts

SFSakana

Wanted to ask has anyone tried hybrid DD head on 1/3 BJD body like volks SDGr, SD13, or other company bjd body.
If yes, how do you connect DD head onto strung bjd body?

I'm worried the vinyl DD head might get damaged due to strong S hook strengths.

On the reverse BJD heads hybrid onto DD vinyl body is much easier.

@SFSakana  I've done this twice. I had a custom dark tan Argonautica body that matched almost perfectly to Smart Doll Cocoa. Unfortunately as good as the hybrid looked, it wasn't what I had in mind, so I never learned the effects of the stringing long-term. (Short-term it didn't appear to be hurting the head at all, but the doll wasn't strung freakishly tight either)

Right now I have a DD Yui Hirasawa head on a UFDoll MSD body. I have even less concern with this one, because the light PVC plastic is about the same weight as vinyl, and the elastic tension doesn't seem to affect the head in any way.

In both cases I strung a ribbon through the elastic, took out the s-hook, then used a small piece of wire to feed the ribbon through the head's neckhole and pull the elastic in, just like a regular BJD head. So far, so good.

I thought at some point in the past someone posted about putting DD heads on SQ Labs bodies, and there was something they did to make the s-hook safer for a vinyl head. It's been so long I don't recall the details though.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

one thing I believe was not using the hook for the head, but just running a separate cord from the shoulder cords and pulling the slack out, and just using a knot to keep the head on the chord. one resin body that I had that come with a vinyl head has a bodge-job at the neck to keep the body strung, and the extra cords for the head coming from somewhere deeper.

Thanks for sharing all the tips!

I'm planning to hybrid my DD boy to larger resin BJD body as I don't really like DDB body which looks too skinny.

I read somewhere having the vinyl head too long on S hook might damage the vinyl, and I don't want to keep removing the vinyl head from bjd body as its going to be my boy's permanent body in future.

Guess its safer to have a S hook stopper between the S hook and the vinyl to reduce the S hook tension?
I hope I can find something suitable for long term.

The more even you can make the pressure around the neck hole the better. A thin s-hook would probably start to dig into the vinyl over time. Maybe a suitable sized silicon kips-disc (or two) and a metal washer in between to spread the load.

I guess it also depends on how highly strung the resin body you are using that how much precaution you might need.

I'm looking for alternative hook/adaptor which they use for BJD - DD, hope it works!
Don't dare to place the S hook directly onto vinyl head as really scare it will damage the head, especially when its a limited head.... 😂

It's been a while, so I don't know if it's still of relevance, but I use this one for these sorts of hybrids and have been very satisfied with them.

Thank you for the link! I did come across this seller months ago, but there's no respond from the shop. I'll try again to ask if they have stocks. <3

Oh, I ordered from them over pandabuy not that long ago!

From my experience they do take a bit of time to get shipped out, but it's worth it.

Yes this is super helpful since I want to hybrid a DDH on a resin body so I don't have to buy a whole new wardrobe, since I have a lot of SD girl clothes.

Sorry to necro a year-old thread, but would anyone who's done this kind of hybrid be able to report on any long term success (or issues) of dealing with the stringing tension on the vinyl head?

I've been flip-flopping between deciding to use a standard vinyl body or a resin one for my next planned DD head, but it's been hard to find any info on DD head + resin body hybrids at all.
