Display for the dollfies?

Recommended Posts

Auri33

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what everyone uses as a display for the dollfies? I had thought about purchasing an IKEA cabinet, but unfortunately, it wasn't tall enough for my needs. In the end, I settled on a transparent acrylic display, but I'm not entirely happy with the result.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations for a good display that could showcase my dollfies (dolffie dreams and super dollfie),  in a professional manner? I'd love to hear any ideas and experiences you've had with different display options. If someone post picture it will be much helpfull 🤩

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I use a Billy IKEA bookcase. You can customize the height of the shelves so I just set shelves tall enough for my Dollfies. I have Detolfs but I wouldn't really recommend it for dolls because they're not tall enough.

Crate&Barrel has a casement that might suit your needs! It is extremely tall so theres room and the shelf height is adjustable. It has a cabinet on the bottom which you could even use for storing items for your dolls.

The white version was discontinued but the black one is still available.

ikea has a figure hobbyist favorite called detolf that can fit two dd's for a more extravagant display.

The problem with them is they sort of need a sturdy pedestal to bring the lower deck higher, and they seem to be going out of production with nothing similar to replace it

I believe Detolfs are being discontinued because the latest releases have been very flimsy and a lot of people experienced them exploding out of nowhere. I have an older edition (allgedly more sturdy) and one day a door decided to explode out of nowhere. Overall I don't recommend them for dolls because they're just ticking time bombs.

I have three, allbeit their around 5 to 7+ years old, and no issues, other than the occasional audioble bongs due to the temperatures changing during the day/season. but if the supplier did skimp on the glass used then all bets are off. (Also if the ends are tightened too much that could make it go boom if the glass cant expand enough.)

Oh that's interesting. I have four that are about 2 years old and I've never noticed mine making noises. But then they are in a room in my basement, which stays cool year round, so maybe they don't get warm enough.

This is very interesting to learn! I wonder if it's a newer thing with cheaper materials?

i have 2 of them, both a good decade old at this point.... and they're fine? Both are crammed full of STUFF (figures, dvds, games, more figures....) which would absolutely weight more than a doll. (Saber did reside in one case for a few months in the past, on a chair too)

Maybe the fact they're the older models, they're probably more sturdy? Maybe it won't be entirely discontinued but they will rerelease a revised version more similar to the older Detolfs. From what I've heard, even the glass on newer Detolfs is thinner.

I have 5 and they're around that age too and all except for one are intact.

it could also be that the temperature in my livingroom is much lower near the floor than at the top of the cabinets, and as those two flux one way or another suitably that might cause them to ping.

I knew from memory that any damage to the sides of tempered glass could make it prone to go boom, but according to wikipedia apparently there are also possible manufacturing defects that can make tempered stuff spontaniously break by itself after several years.

Jeez, that sounds scary.

I also have a detolf, but mine is as well a good couple of years old already and I never even heard a sound from it, so I hope it will stay like this for a long time.

The IKEA bookcases are great but I live really far away from IKEA now and the shipping is insanely expensive, nearly the cost of the bookcases.

I just ordered this bookcase from Home Depot and it should arrive tomorrow! The price is $330 USD with free shipping. I'm hoping this will be a good enough replacement for the Billy bookcases for me.
