Thinking about Volks people in this crisis...

Recommended Posts

MsGeek

Anyone know if the people who work for Volks are OK? I was over at Den Of Angels and I was struck that there wasn't a thread of support for the people who work for doll companies in Japan. I mean, yeah, lots of people with resin dolls are probably bumming out in the region, but what's more important are the humans who make the dolls.

I don't know anyone over there at Volks, but I do know scientists working in Tokyo and in Yamaguchi. We have been watching news sites in the lab and are really worried about all the people there. Thank you for posting about this disaster. We are certainly thinking about all the people affected.

AX Live, the live broadcast done by Anime Expo here in LA, was on the air from about midnight to 4am covering the quake. Seriously, they did as good or better than all the other news channels, with perhaps the exception of Al Jazeera English. Otaku CARE. At least here in the States, Otaku are good, decent, caring folk.

You're not alone Mitsuki. I also have friends over there completely unrelated to dolls who I am concerned about too. I hope you find out that they are all well. I'll send my good wishes out for them as well as the folks I know in Japan... and frankly all of Japan that is in chaos as a result of the earthquake.

Here's to wishing some sort of comfort, care and a return to normalcy for the entirety of the people in Japan (and other countries and areas) who are effected by this disaster. Our minds and hearts are with you~

I am with Japan too...

I still have to realize it... I just can't believe something so great has moved: now the chain reaction will damage also many places. The earthquake, the tidal wave, the whirpool, the cracked buildings, the factories, all those fires, the floods, the mud... I'm so afraid, sorry, I just can't calm down...

3 of my otaku friends went there to see the sakura, join the festivals and having fun and shopping at Akihabara and Harajuku. I'm sure that they have not been harmed, but they have wasted the possibily for a paceful trip in their "sanctuary"!

I'm sorry to hear about your friends. I'm sure that they are ok and unharmed. The only thing greater than human tragedy is resilience and the ability to recover. Japan and the people who live there are perhaps one of the greatest examples of this being true in the past, (and I am sure) present and future.

This is quoted from Volk's Sumika Times blog today:

"Regarding the earthquake situation in Japan.

March 11th, 2011

Thank you so much for your kind words to us.

You may have already heard the news about the massive earthquake which hit Japan yesterday. Some of our stores were affected, however we are very relieved to say that all of the staff members of Volks Japan are now confirmed as safe.

The following stores in Japan will close for safety purposes. Their re-opening schedule will be announced later. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

Sendai Show Room

Utsunomiya Show Room

Tenshi-no-Sumika Harajuku

Akihabara Show Room

Ikebukuro Show Room

Tenshi-no-Sumika Shinjuku-ALTA

Tachikawa Show Room

Machida Show Room

Lalaport Funabashi Show Room

Yokohama Show Room

The following events are so far planned to be held on the original schedule.

Tenshi-no-Sato Event on March 12

Home Town Dolls Party Kyoto8 on March 13

In the case that the schedule for these events changes, the Lottery Entry on our web site will change as well. We will announce any updates on our web site and blog. It may be disappointing , but we ask for your understanding during this difficult time.

We pray that all of the friends and families of yours and ours in Japan will be alright, from the bottoms of our hearts.

Kayo"

I'm glad that at least all of the employees are safe and accounted for. I'm surprised that the Dolpa is continuing as scheduled. I would think that not many people would be able to attend due to lack of transportation, or that they would be in no state to attend something as frivolous as a Dolpa right now...

Ah, but that is how they shall make the monies to pay the regular insurance so, in turn, the insurance can pay for the repairs to the sumikas and lost products. The wheel of business grinds on... It's good to see things on course. Also, perhaps it's a testament of how 'hardcore' Japan is about their dollfies? ^^ At any rate, it's heartening to see that they have the ability to proceed with plans.

We have now heard from everyone we know in Japan, and they are OK. I am glad Volks was able to account for everyone of their employees.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. It makes sense then why they are continuing with the Dolpa as planned. I guess for the ones that make it, it may also serve as a break from reality. While the dolls may not be alive, I think all of us do derive some comfort from playing with them.
