Fixing the DD3's shoulders

Recommended Posts

PlasticFantastic

Hey all! So I know a lot of people are having this issue, and my DD3 (from Moe version 2) is no exception. Well my fiance and I have come up with a proper fix that's holding the body together very well. If there's interest from you guys we can put together kits for sale (though you will need access to a drill) and also we can offer a repair service so that you can send your pieces in and we can do the repair for you.

We're thinking of selling the kits for $15 (plus shipping) and we'll do the repair for $25 (plus shipping).

Anyway, I've included images for you guys to see what the fix looks like (and some of the serious breakage I've experienced) as well as a list of what we used to fix and what would be included in the kits.

2 screws

2 nuts

An allen key for the screws

2 tie straps (we will use clear for peace of mind rather than the black shown)

A 1/8 drill bit to drill the holes

A detailed instruction sheet

And on for the gore!

As you can see, one of the pegs sheared itself right off the body.. This means the arm connection falls off the torso piece. ;_;

But this will fix the issue! Using a screw and a nut instead of relying on the plastic to hold everything properly! The black wire tie holds the arm connection together after they both cracked, we could also add epoxy along with this to bind it to the plastic. So far it's holding up well as it is!

Here's what the full repair looks like from the front

And this is what it looks like from the back.

Anyway, let me know if you're interested in having this repair done - it can be done both to fix and also to avoid breakage for those of you who are worried about it. ^_^

Looks really interesting, though I doubt I'd be brave enough to drill the hole! It seems like the part I would need would be the zip tie part to hold the cracked socket together. Though now, I've sanded down my arm peg so much that I fear I have the opposite problem -- the arm is too loose in the socket. I know I could try thickening it up with some layers of superglue or nail polish, but I'm scared of making it so thick that it cracks.

I really, really like the idea of repair kits as well as a repair service. Both of these things sound like something I would use in the future.

If just the zip ties are used there is a hazard that the pegs will shear like mine did unless reinforced. Our repair was a work in progress that took a few tries to get right. ^_^

Very cool repair job! Methinks I see some RC car parts in there somewhere.

Everything looks nice and sturdy now so I hope things stay like that. Nice of you to go thru the process and then share!

It definitely uses RC parts! But they work really well! I didn't go through the WHOLE process in this post but for kits there will be detailed instructions of what needs to be drilled and stuff. I think this fix would work on the DDS as well since they share the same framework.

Since I'll be upgrading bodies, I am VERY glad to see this repair as an option.
