ateliervanilla Posted June 18, 2023 Hello! I wanted to start this topic since I'm curious if anybody has experience on this. I got my DDdy Yor some time ago and it had a luxurious rose fragrance when she arrived. Awhile back, I purchased a DD body secondhand and had a sweet scent. What is a safe way to apply fragrance to a DD? Not that the raw vinyl smell is off-putting to me, more of that the scent just gives the doll more personality, so I was wondering if any of you had put fragrance to dolls before. violetpoof Posted June 18, 2023 (edited) Yes, yes I do! I have an obsession with giving my dolls scents. I collect pour homme especially Bvlgari. Some eau de toilette more fruity soft smells for my girls. I’m p sure it’s not suitable for a vinyl doll nor resin ones bc it could have some oils. As long as you know what I can do and probably not think about selling— just give a heads up to the person if you decide to sell, things should be okay 👌🏽 edit: a way to scent your doll is to stuff cotton balls in the hallow joints scented w pour femme. Easy peasy Edited June 18, 2023 by violetpoof
chef_mai Posted June 18, 2023 Likewise, I've had the reverse concern where a figure I received (not technically a doll, but similar materials?) had a fragrance that wasn't disclosed and want to remove it. I first tried warm, soapy water after checking that that was OK. That did little. Second was to store in a cupboard with fresh clothes to absorb it. This helped a bit, but the fragrance persists. Is it a lost cause?

Is it a lost cause? Maybe try soaking it in a vinegar water solution or keeping in a sealed container with baking soda? I heard of people doing both for removing smoke and other scents. Twin pines also has a product called de-stink which removes scent. I’m not sure on it’s effectiveness because I have not tried it yet but it may be worth a shot. 1

The only method (so far) that has successfully removed smells/scents for me is sealing the item in an air-tight bag (Ziplock, tied plastic bags, etc.) with fabric softener strips. I have extremely sensitive sinuses and asthma, and if I receive an item with second-hand smoke or fragrance that upsets my sinuses, I treat items this way. In extreme cases, I left the item for over a month. In less extreme circumstances, a week. This does not, obviously, remove yellowing from smoke. This has worked on Nendoroids, Monster High and other playline dolls, clothing, and books so far. I haven't had any need to try it on a BJD yet.

Easy peasy Oh, I also quite like that idea actually. I am also a fan if perfumes and fragrances and having a way to combine that would be nice. I think I might give that idea with the cotton balls a try.
Xiongmao Posted June 23, 2023 I love the new doll smell. There have been so many recent arrivals our corridor smelled of them... heavenly. My older girls still smell OK. The two smells I fear are tobacco smoke and mould. Tobacco is also a huge fear with Lego collectors. I don't smoke so that's OK but the north wing of our apartment gets damp in winter. My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
