RetroKanojo Posted June 23, 2023 I hope this is the right place to put this! Today, I'm celebrating my birthday and my very first dolliversary! (If you want to be specific, my dolliversary actually falls on the 25th but it's close enough so I'll be fudging the date a bit ) I thought it would be a great occasion to look back at the previous year, the people I've met, and of course the dolls I welcomed into my home! One year ago I received my very first large vinyl doll, my Standard Model Mirai who I've named Anzu! At that point in time I had a running pre-order for Tinyfox Fibonacci and I had told myself 'no dolls until I receive Fibonacci' but Anzu popped up secondhand for a very reasonable price and I caved in and got her so she ended up being my very first. When I initially entered the hobby I would have never thought I would get into Dollfie Dreams specifically, mainly due to the price tag attached to these dolls. However, Anzu quickly convinced me that DDs were well worth the investment. The craftsmanship, the sculping.. she really made me fall in love with DD! I was immediately hooked, and I knew that I wanted to get more! Fast forward to November '22. It was a very tumultuous time in my life. A lot of change, a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety. Fibonacci arrived amidst all that chaos and she really felt like a ray of light in otherwise very dark times. She's an absolutely gorgeous doll but somehow I have never quite managed to bond with her. Maybe it's her size, maybe it's her much stiffer body. I'm not sure. I have considered selling her before but I don't think I could actually go through with that. Currently, she is my reigning shelf queen. Right before Christmas, I was able to get my hands on a secondhand DDB and you can read up on what I ended up doing with it and the next DDB I got through a Dream Choice Split in my other post here! To spare you the (pretty long) read, I used the bodies to shell two characters I really love: Eiden & Kuya from Nu:Carnival! (The game is 18+ so please beware in case you want to look it up!) And here you can see them all together: From left to right: Anzu, Eiden, Kuya, and Fibonacci! Not pictured is Faker - my floating DDH-07 Saber lookalike - but I really didn't want to disturb her cryosleep. Every time I look at my dolls I am filled with a great sense of gratitude. I know that I am very fortunate to be able to indulge in such a hobby in the first place and even more so to be able to (in Eiden and Kuya's case) bring the characters I love to life with the help of many other talented people all around the globe. I don't want to say something ridiculous like 'Dolls cured my depression'. That wouldn't be correct either. However, I don't hesitate to say that they have and are greatly helping my mental health. They offer me the opportunity to be excited for the future, they push me to engage in other hobbies like knitting and sewing, and they help me to connect with others. I can't stress enough how many wonderful people I've met along my doll journey. I would not be able to have these amazing dolls if it weren't for all of them. Thank you all so much! To whoever reads this: treat yourself (and/or your dolls!) to something nice on my behalf! Now, you might think to yourself '4 dolls 1 head is quite the pace to set for your first year in the hobby'. (Un?)fortunately I do not quite plan to stop just yet. My KAITO will hopefully be arriving soon, and I have not one but three heads at a face-up artist. Although, in my defense I don't plan on adding any additional 1/3 bodies to my collection for a while. Beyond those immediate plans there are at least two other characters that I would like to shell but I'm currently undecided on those plans. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what my collection looks like in another year! As a little sneak peek, here's an update I received from my face up artist just today: What an awesome birthday gift! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

MoiBakaDesu Posted June 24, 2023 Happy dolliversary, that is such a nice story! I especially love your Kuya, he is very pretty. As somebody who got into the hobby to specialize in character dolls of my two favourites, I can understand your passion very well, haha. And I'd say don't worry about the pacing if it brings you joy, I'm only in the hobby for about a year as well and I'm sitting here with 8 dolls of various scales and more on the way (and that is not counting my various 1/12 boys with which I started before slipping). With the NuC theme going on allow me to take a wild guess for the new part of the family, is it going to be Blade?

They are not the right shade and they are really big. It gives him a kind of goofy look, I know, but I just find that very endearing And you're absolutely correct! Blade is the next one up! He's actually been the one who started my Nu:Carnival Dollfie quest so to speak. I was crushed when I didn't manage to get his Lovable Enforcer SSR, and instead of paying up to get him, I decided I'd rather spend my money to get something tangible out of it. The reason Eiden and Kuya came to fruition first was my worry over whether a Blade DD would even be possible. I felt like his big toothy smile is just so important to his design but I wasn't sure if it would really translate well into 3D. I've seen sort of similar mouth mods before but I have to say that this one is my absolute favorite. Magic Owl Forest just did such a fantastic job with it! I can't wait to see him once he's completely done!

(Speaking as someone who spent a fair amount of money on gacha in the past.) And I'm sure your Blade will look wonderful, the mouth mod already looks very nice! It also reminded me that I had seen a MDD Blade before at least, and while they opted to not go with his shark teeth for him, their Twisted Wonderland boy next to him does have them, haha.

Xiongmao Posted June 28, 2023 Well done on your dolliversary. Recently I flipped through all my unboxing videos so I could make a list of my dolls' birthdays. My girls (and 1 boy) have definitely helped my own mental health. Towa arrived during the depths of the covid crisis and now I believe I have exactly the right number of emotional support dolls. I'm still hopeless at keeping jobs, but Towa and her gang are keeping me in good spirits. On 6/25/2023 at 7:29 PM, CrimsonSkadi said: Happy Dolliversary! Oh those teeth! I think Power is one of my most favourite characters ever, because she has teeth and a really fun attitude. I must see if I can turn Kaito into the Angel Devil. 1 My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
