Imbri Posted August 26, 2023 Hi, I always get tongue-tied (finger-tied?) when it comes to stuff like this, but I'll toss out some basics and if you want to know more, give a shout. I'm Imbri, I got into the hobby 4-5 years ago, when I bought a Pullip bait doll. Fast forward to now, and I have 18 Pullip dolls, 2 Smart Dolls, half a dozen Obitsu, a couple Azone, Licca, vintage Barbies, and more. It sounds like a mishmash, but I do manage to curate a certain look. Anyway, it's all fun, right? I've learned a little about doing mods, but I'm still pretty nervous to do anything drastic. But it's fun to see what the possibilities are. Outside of dolls, I knit, read, love old movies, and spend time with my two cats. I'm hoping to meet some new people. My local area is pretty quiet on the doll front, so I rely mostly on online friends.
Stupid_Hoomun Posted August 26, 2023 Welcome. It sounds like you have quite a varied collection. It's fun how more just keep arriving after the first.
PolitelyNefarious Posted August 26, 2023 Why hullo there! Welcome aboard! We love a good, diverse doll family. Pullip was also how I got my start. It's been fourteen years now and it's clear the dolls aren't going anywhere. Do you mind if I ask which releases some of your girls are? Mods and faceups are rad! But there's no harm in commissioning others for that, or just enjoying a good stock look. As pretty as customs are, all of the companies who make these dolls have improved dramatically over the years at default faceups. Pullip and Smart Doll especially come to mind as having some gorgeous defaults, and Azone and Barbie are incredibly diverse. Old media and knitting also sound like great hobbies. I find the older I get that I prefer cartoons, film, and books before this era too, and knitting is, like dolls, incredibly diverse. Both have a wealth of directions you could go in. Also, huzzah for more cat people. What kind of story genres do you like? Alas, RIP non-existent local doll collectors. Fortunately, the forum is a pretty chill place, and if you don't mind webcam, we do virtual meetups every two weeks, for whoever cares to come. ☺️ Looking forward to seeing you and learning more about your girls as you settle in.
Imbri Posted August 28, 2023 Thanks for the welcome! Dolls do seem to appear almost as if by magic, don't they? The laundry list for my Pullips? Okay. Alice du Jardin Pink (bait doll that started it all), Jeanne, du Jardin Pink and Mint, Kiki and Lala, Nana-Chan and Nana-Chan Calico Variant, Audrey Hepburn Sabrina, Eclata, Evangeline, Alice Innocent World, Taeyang Scarecrow, Lion, and Tinman, Dal Kanaria Rozen Maiden (redone as Dorothy). And I'll be getting the 20th Anniversary doll for the holidays. I also have 2 Byul dolls that I am planning to rebody onto PNS bodies. I have wigs and am working out outfits to make them into Anne and Diana from Green Gables (and I may need to find an Isul to create Gilbert, because Jonathan Crombie, my heart). As for what I read? Just about everything. I'm not much for horror/true crime, but I'll try other stuff. I do tend to skew toward historical fiction and fantasy, though. Gaslamp, is fun, too. I tend to lurk a bit, but I am settling in, and I'll put out little feelers and will get to know everyone.
Xiongmao Posted August 29, 2023 Welcome. I should really find some local doll fairs to go to, although a Miku doll would probably feel more at home at an anime convention. The weekly Zoom meetings are fun if you want to talk dolls. Last week I bought a Dollfie outfit "live" on air but the real fun was seeing the absolutely insane bidding war for the hand drawn artwork the outfit seller was also selling. I mostly have Dollfies but I also have a large number of Azones. I still don't know how I went from 1 to 20(ish) Dollfies but I adore each and every one of them. I guess I'm also a cat person. I looked after my sister's cat during the covid era. She knocked Towa over a couple of times, but it's dogs I fear because every time I take my girls outside they are a huge target for dogs. 1 My Dollfie doll family 😊.
