Cloudy With A Chance of Rainie

Although she is far from complete, I couldn't resist finally putting up some pictures of my work in progress DDS Rainie after her wig finally came in.

 

 

She's little more than a head, legs and feet (she is being supported by a bamboo cup, a chopstick for her spine, her face hasn't been reshaped yet, and has the wrong size bust... ) but she has enough personality to make up for it. When I first started thinking of her I began to wonder what her name was and she popped into my head and informed me that it was Rainie. I attempted to think of a couple other names, although I don't remember them now, this is pretty much how the conversation went:

 

Me: "I wonder what else I could name you? I like to have options in case I change my mind later."

Rainie: "My name is Rainie."

Me: "How about..."

Rainie: "No, my name is Rainie."

I grumble to myself, feeling a bit put out. "Well then, I'll chose your last name."

Rainie stays silent.

Me: "How about we have the same last name, since you are going to be my daughter?"

Rainie: "No, it's too boring."

Feeling a bit miffed, I suggest the next thing that runs across my mind without thinking. "How about my maiden name then?"

Rainie: "That's great! I want that one!"

I pause for a moment waiting for it to sink in. "You can't be serious Rainie..."

Rainie: "I like it." And with that it was decided. She was beaming and happy and I was mentally groaning. Why? Because she had decided that her name was going to be Rainie Day...

 

 

Despite what he name makes her sound like, she has a very sunshine personality. For those who remember Punky Brewster from the 80s, or Ramona Quimby yah, that's what Rainie is like. She wouldn't call herself a tomboy because she just doesn't think about herself that way, and she does like dresses just not ones with lace, ribbons, and froufy stuff. She's more inclined to have bright and bold patterned clothes, being subdued is not in her spunky personality.

I really love this wig, it is perfect for her but I wanted the bangs to hang straight so I'll need to trim them. Dealing with Tamayuki's bangs in his eyes all the time is enough, I didn't want to spend even more of my time dealing with hers. She looks cute with them brushed to the side, but it's not her.

 

 

She is really going to be fun to have around Tamayuki since she is so spontaneous and outgoing, I'm not even sure she will notice how shy he is. When I first started to wonder how well they would do together, the following image popped up in my head:

 

Tamayuki was quietly sitting in a corner playing with his dolly keeping to himself like usual. Then Rainie walks in with a pillow from somewhere, heartily kicks it across the room, and continues on her way. Tamayuki merely grins to himself and starts giggling.

 

I think they will be a great pair, Rainie just being silly and diving headlong into everything, and Tamayuki having someone he can follow and quietly participate in the things he would do on his own if he wasn't so shy.

 

Yikes! What have I gotten myself into?

I'm a sucker for 01 head girls and yours definitely caught my eye. She's looking good for starters even if she isn't complete yet. But now we know what to expect from her! I like the name, it's really neat. Plus she shows some humor in choosing her last name. Nice one Rainie!

 

And now the main reason I've made a connection to Rainie...

 

 

She has the same wig as MY 01 girl Manami! So now you know what she'll look like a little better with a faceup and full body! Here's another shot from our beach trip...

 

 

I do love braids on Manami! So I know when your girl gets all done, she will look excellent! I can't wait to see her when she's all done!

Sorry guys for taking so long to respond, it's been a miserable week. I burnt some garbanzos, almost catching our kitchen on fire and our whole upstairs was completely filled with smoke. Worst of all is that I'm allergic to smoke and I've had splitting migraines because of it. Things are a lot better now and the house is finally getting aired out, but I hadn't forgotten you! Perhaps I should have named the topic, Smokey With A Chance Of Rainie...

Even though she's not done yet, she's already started to collect stuffed animals... She's my daughter alright. I'm a bit afraid of what might happen when you add Tamayuki's dolly into the mix, he and Rainie would probably just egg each other on.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can order the paint within the next two weeks, we can't find the right kind of paint where we live, and we are still trying to figure out about the pastels as well. We've read that the Volks kind fades, but are lost on what the better alternative is.

Rainie is definitely someone with a bigger than life personality, she's the star of he own Broadway musical that only debuts in her head with a dash of the Three Stooges...

 

I laughed when you posted the pics of Manami, because I saw her in your Flickr pool the day before I posted this and was very surprised! I'm still trying to decide how I want to do her face, resculpting her mouth is almost inevitable because as it is, it looks too sweet and I wanted her to have a big smile.

Thanks! I really have a goofy sense of humor and I make myself giggle a lot with titles like that. Rainie's personality is so like me when I was 8 years old, tying yarn to my stuffed animals so I could throw them out my 2nd story window (kinda like bungee jumping? ) It worked well until my mom noticed 20 minutes later as they sailed past her office window.

 

She is adorable! Can't wait to see her finished.

I've been a little surprised at how much time it's taken me to figure out any of their faces (Rainie, Tamayuki, 2 EB Minis, and a regular EB). It was a big shock to realize that I'm not used to having the shape of a face done but not the features. I've made all sorts of dolls since I was a kid, soft sculpture, felt, play dough, clay, Fimo, lightbulbs, but any of those I was able to manipulate from the start. The overall process is interesting, and even I'm curious to see what I will end up with as well!

My mom used to tell me all the time that I was Ramona and she would read me a chapter from one of the books almost every night. I always thought it was really funny that my oldest sister is very much like Beezus!

Just wondering, what size bust does she have now and what size do you want for her?

Her dress is actually one I designed and made for one of my American Girls. As for her bust size, she has the DDS M bust, but I want a DD S bust. The day before she arrived I found out that the DD busts fit on the DDS. I really wish Volks would say something about that on their site...
