Hello there! New to vinyl BJD :D

Recommended Posts

Shiiza

Hello hello ^^ I'm Shiiza, I'm 30 and I'm just getting into vinyl BJDs. I collected resin ones in my teens and a little into my early 20's but due to life I had to put the doll collecting aside for quite some time! When I saw that FFXIV collabed with Volks and they released DD Y'shtola, I knew I had to take the plunge back into the hobby haha. I don't know much about the vinyl dolls but after handling the resin ones for so long, i'm excited to experience something new.

Outside of dolls I enjoy lolita fashion, video games, and cooking. I'm also learning how to crochet at the moment 😄 I'm a returning college student so getting back into dolls has been a nice low key activity after classes when i'm too tired to focus on video games haha.

Anyway that's enough about me. :) Happy to meet you all!

(Gosh I missed forums like this. I try facebook groups and they don't hit the same.)

Welcome to the forum. I also miss the forums from the old days. It's sad that Facebook (and to a lesser extent Reddit) combined with endless spammers killed off so many hobbyist run forums.

I have my eye on Y'shtola as she's a really unique DD.

I didn't plan on getting into the doll hobby. I just thought an emotional support doll would be a neat thing to have and before I knew it Towa had turned my apartment into a real life dolls house. We have far more doll clothes than human outfits now.

Welcome to the forums

@onion12@

You will notice some differences when posing Vinyl dolls in comparison to Resin ones. Vinyl ones are in my opinion easier to pose because of their inner skeleton.
We have quite a big group with doll loving people. And I notice that since a few months the forum is getting more active.

We do love photo’s. Feel free to post some photo’s of your boys or girls.

I await the day old school forums make a comeback ;_; There seriously is just something so nice about going into a little hobby forum cut off from the rest of everything.

She's honestly a beautiful doll. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't have human ears, especially since the character she's modeled after doesn't have human ears! 😄 I also love she's more of a realistic dollfie dream. I much prefer the semi-realistic styles of dolls. Not too realistic but not too stylized either. That nice smack dab in the middle look, like the semi real smart dolls :)

Yeah! I got into dolls when I was 14 when I was introduced to pullip dolls! It's crazy to think about haha. Fashion is a huge hobby of mine so I have lots of clothes for myself but I'm satisfied with my clothing collection so I don't want to add anymore XD So back to dressing up the dolls!

Seeya around,

When I get the chance I will definitely post some photos of her! <3 I haven't had the opportunity to take many photos of her despite having pre-ordered her! I'm hoping to order her some new clothes soon too. Very excited about that. And I'm so glad the forum is getting more active! I hope to be around lots in the future. ^^ Discord is too fast paced for me these days since I only have limited online time so I end up missing a lot of discussion on discord. :( I think many people are realizing the same dilemma.

I love the hands are so easily removed for dressing them. The hardest part with resin dolls was the sleeves and the hands haha. Getting the skull caps back on though, that was a fight I was not prepared for. I'm hoping to add some more vinyls to my collection! 😄 I feel like I have my work cut out for me if I want to find some more realistic looking boys though. >_< Gotta figure out a way to hybrid the smart doll semireal heads onto an Obitsu or DD boy body.

I'm also a returning college student! It's so difficult getting back into the swing of things after being out of there for so long. 😅

And I agree, places like... Facebook... and.... (shudder) Reddit..... are nothing like old-skool forums. I miss them as well.

I've had experience with both resin and vinyl dolls, and to be honest, I find vinyl a liiiiittle bit more enjoyable to work with. Sure, they stain easier (I really, really recommend body stockings; they're a life-saver), but at least they hold their poses! When I had resins, I had the the hardest time with them to stay still. I hope you'll enjoy them as well!

Welcome to the forums! Even though I'm also new, haha!

Ooh congrats on going back to school! And yeah it is difficult Q_Q I'm so late replying because I had a bunch of papers due at once! @onion27@

I'm really really hoping old school forums make a comeback eventually haha.

Oh that's interesting. I have an easier time posting the resin ones but I also did a lot of work to make mine pose well. I wired and sueded them, and restrung them twice a year. I'm still getting used to the vinyl ones. I already had to fix my girl's hips since her hips got misaligned and I'm not sure how far I can push them bc I'm so afraid of breaking the skeleton lol.

I'm 100% planning on getting a body stocking for mine! I just need to find one that matches Y'sthola's skin color. Apparently volks doesn't really have one that matches her T_T; I'm thinking of trying to make my own.

Homework is a killer, haha. And also my worst enemy.

I looked up Y'sthola's stats and I believe this would be the body stocking you'd be looking for. I don't know how hard it will be for you to find it, though. Funnily enough, I used to live in NJ too, so I had to search all over internet creation to get my hands on things!
