Rukia Kuchiki from Bleach -- Ideas?

Rukia is one of my all-time favorite anime characters, and as I am sure Volks will never make a DD of her, I am seriously considering making one of my own! And I'd love some ideas and input from you all so please do chime in here.

Some key characteristics: large eyes that are relatively wide length-wise ~ mouth is neutral, not smiley or open ~ moderate distance between nose and eyes ~ looks serious, but not mean or irritated

 

She is 4'8" tall and has purple eyes and short black hair in sort of a "flip". She is a strong, mature woman, but has cute traits such as her love of bunnies and the childish illustrations she sometimes uses to explain things.

 

Current Ideas:

Body: DDS S-bust ~ SQ Lab body

Skin tone: probably normal skin, but haven't completely ruled out white

Possible head molds: Saber ~ SQ Labs Yukari ~ SQ Labs Silvia

Possible wigs: Leeke LR-026 ~ Leeke LR-008 ~ [other ideas?]

Possible eyes: I've checked Volks, Leeke, Twin Sun, Sqlab, and Coolcat with no luck, I guess either Yahoo Japan or custom eyes from Ersa Flora is my best bet?

After skimming some of the photos, I feel like DD Sakuya would be a good choice for this character. She'd need to be re-faced up but she's not TOO tough to find and she isn't super expensive (maybe 90K for a fullset)

 

The wig looks similar to a bunch up on Leeke World's website, I just grabbed this link as an example.

That is funny you should mention Sakuya, I JUST sold my Sakuya head! I really do like her mold, but having seen her in person she seemed very mischievous and her mouth was a bit too upturned. She was really pretty, but if I had kept her I would have probably made her into a girl!Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist. *adds a more serious face reference*

 

Thanks so much for the suggestion though! And I bet you are right about the wig being easy to find, and a heat resistant one like that could probably be styled to have the ends flipped up pretty easily.

And too bad you sold your Sakuya. I think she would be gorgeous with a new faceup.

 

Body type: I think a DDS s bust would be perfect ^^

Head mold: If it's between Saber and Aoi than Saber for sure. That would be so awesome.

Skin color: I think normal skin would be good. She wears a lot of black so getting a white skin will make her look like a vampire. =/

Hair: Any black wig would be fine since she will need a bit of styling anyways.

Eyes: You can check out Twin-Snow or CoolCat

Hmmm... I'm looking at my DDH02 and the images and it doesn't seem to match. I think the nose on the DDH02 is a bit too high. As for me, i'm thinking a DDH03 maybe a better match. As the nose and mouth looks about the right position comparing to the images.

There's also SQ Labs to consider. Perhaps Haruka could work. Yukari is another possibility; though the faceup shots on the site are smiley, if you look at the blank head you'll see the mold itself isn't, and I have definitely seen some grumpy Yukaris before.

 

EDIT: Omigod, I'm sorry. I had accidentally pasted the wrong link in for Haruka. XD "What Dubstep Sounds Like To Your Parents" is very much NOT an SQ Labs head! Fixed now.

This is SO TRUE. WS girls can have a very difficult time wearing darker colours! NS girls are still pale, so I think you'll be okay with this.

juu-yuki ~ thanks for the imput! I am definitely leaning towards Saber over the 02 head. And that is a good point about the skin tone! Rukia doesn't exactly wear a lot of colorful clothes.

 

XOHimitsuOX ~ y'know, I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was about the 02 head that wasn't quite right, but I think you nailed it. And the 03 head looks about right in that regard, though sadly the eyes don't seem to fit as well (now, for Orihime maybe . . . lol).

 

Poofiemus ~ haha, no problem about the song link, and thank you! And WOW I cannot believe I missed that Yukari mold, I have been to SQlabs site and never bothered to click her page. I'm not sure about the nose/eye spacing, but she's definitely going on my "considered" list!

 

PlasticFantastic ~ I really appreciate your opinion on that, and I think you may be right! I actually have a resin WS girl that I am having this problem with -- she has dark hair, neutral makeup, and wears darker/more basic colors, and her "monochrome" look has always bothered me (I was looking at pics of your girls too . . . the NS doesn't look that dark next to WS, though your Alna is lovely).

Thanks misskale! I think those eyes are too bright and red-toned, but it could be the lighting. They are a gorgeous shade. ^^ And I am liking the SQlab head too, it is hard to choose!

What do you think of Haruka's or Lucy's eyes? They are less red toned.

I had almost forgotten that BOTH of the Dolpa girls have purple eyes thanks for the suggestion!

 

I think they may be a bit too "gentle" looking though. Rukia has a sharper expression that will probably need dark, well-defined pupils that are not overly large.

 

Maybe, if I win Haruka, I will see her eyes and change my mind though!

that's a great idea! I would like to see Rukia, though the fact because of her height, I thought it would be considerate to be MDD.

I think you should go with a DDS body to make her small as she suppose to be. Aoi fits her face almost perfectly. As for wig and clothes I'm sure you can find someone to make custom clothes for you. Wig could be styled to look like her as well.

sakky, I had never looked at her! Her eye shape looks quite good, I am kinda terrified of modding though. ^^; But I appreciate the suggestion!

Rukia's height is kinda tricky due to the heights of my other dolls. I had nearly given up on getting her, actually. Though I think I may have found just this thing: the new 53cm SQ Lab body! And I am definitely adding their new Silvia sculpt to my list.
