Kiyora the garden fairy!

Recommended Posts

My Toppa arrived today, so I went into sewing mode to get her clothed! Her name is Kiyora, and she is a garden fairy. And by garden fairy, I mean she is somewhat feral and likes digging around for fun new bulbs and mushrooms. I got her green eyes and a green wig, but I'm not married to the wig, she might rotate through a few. Her faceup is planned to be warm browns and dark greens!

I just kind of winged the outfit; I'd thought the leaf-ribbons would be tied at the shoulder, but they turned out too bulky on this scale, so I went somewhere else with it and used a tab of doll velcro and rosettes!

We got a wig last weekend and her eyes FINALLY came in! (I ordered another pair in case these never made it, the seller was taking their SWEET time shipping) and gosh darn it, she's so cute even without her full face on!

My MSC should arrive today, and I went a little crazy at the art store getting the paint I wanted, so hopefully this child will have a face up soon!

Kiyora has a face!

Okay, confession time. This is Kiki's second faceup. The first one was very very bad. You see, I've never worked on a 1/6 before, only SD and MSD resin, so the first attempt was Not Good. I watched eighty more tutorials, got smaller brushes, and embraced pastel pencils.

Basically, because Kiyora is a garden fairy, I decided I wanted her eyebrows to look kind of like sprouting grass. I also added warm browns/olives instead of black. I put vines/flowers with crystrals in the center on either side too. You don't see them much with her wig on, but they're there!

I still love her in the jumpsuit I winged, she's just so cute. (The gold wire is her magic hand. It's a WIP.)

HOWEVER, I do also think she is cute as a bug in this yoSD dress I got at Dollyteria in Shinjuku.

An! Actual! Bean! I love her so much.

Kiyora updates: My fairy has wings!!!

I found a seller (@_Eastegg_ on twitter) at iDoll in Tokyo who made magnetic wings, but none of the colors she had suited Kiki's color scheme, so I waited for her to restock and asked for green/yellow. She immediately DM'd me and offered a custom paint of yellow over green and I gleefully accepted!

The wings are STUNNING, they're double layered and have floral wire them so you can adjust the shape of them. The magnet embeded in the center point has pretty ribbon and yarn covering it, and it came with the small magnet you put on the doll to hold them.

Now, what I discovered is that it's hard to get into Imomodoll's chest to stick a magnet for good, so I needed to make some sort of pouch to attach to her clothing. So I sat down to make a dress!

My mom taught me how to sew when I was little, and because we were pretty poor, I was taught to save cabbage scrap and be resourceful. For doll clothes, sometimes it's easier and cheaper to take apart human clothes than to just buy 50cms of fabric you only need 15cm of.

The dress bodice is scrap cabbage, and the skirt? Socks from Daiso! The rosettes are also Daiso. I cut a small piece of soft tulle off a skirt I have that doesn't fit anymore to make the magnet pouch that I safety-pinned into the dress. The result is quite adorable in my humble opinion.

Tomorrow we're going to iDoll again and this time meeting up with local dollie people, so I'm excited!

Thank you so much! The wings really pull her together; I got to show her to the artist at a doll convention and they were so excited with how cute Kiki turned out they took a picture of her. 😂
