prettysailorstar Posted January 1, 2024 Some people find dolls creepy, I was wondering if even doll collectors feel that way sometimes? There are so many horror movies about it I am just curious! I don’t have my own doll so I don’t know T_T
0bsequi0us Posted January 1, 2024 Not scared of them, but they definitely have caused fear. 😂 Specifically super heavy resin dolls falling off the shelf, usually bringing several others down with them... it definitely causes dread, like "Oh god what's broken now?" But also a loud clatter in the middle of the night is just startling. I definitely still find some dolls creepy (like reborn baby dolls, which I find very unnerving) but I obviously don't buy those dolls and put them in my house. 😭 5 Pixel art by @PlasticJester ! ZaPpA_721 Posted January 1, 2024 Not really scared, more of a worry if they get stained/damaged in any way. Seen many horror movies involving dolls, but I mainly do DDs which are based on anime /game characters that many love.
Rajke Posted January 1, 2024 (edited) Not scared of the doll, scared about damaging the doll. I think the people who collects doll aren’t afraid of them. At the last doll event I haven’t seen people screaming and running away in panic. I love horror themes and I am a big fan of Sadomina’s work. She buys blanc dolls and makes beautiful characters out of them in horror theme. For some it can be nightmare fuel, I think they are amazing. I have one girl were my mother was afraid/uncomfortable about. That’s my Doll Chateau Fuya fullset. She was really afraid to touch her. Before you start googling her a NSFW and mild gore warning is on its place. Now we are 4 years further and she still doesn’t like her bet it definitely became less. We have one BN’er (Bekende Nederlander, well known Dutch citizen) in our country that has a serious phobia of dolls. I doubt that she has any doll in her house. Stupid_Hoomun Posted January 1, 2024 I'm not scared of any of the dolls I own, like others I worry about them getting hurt. My grandmother had some of those victorian china dolls which kind of unnerved me as a child but I'd probably be ok with those now. There are some dolls out there that creep me out for sure, those realistic looking silicone babies often send me on a trip down the uncanny valley.
Tasuke Posted January 1, 2024 (edited) There Were in Fact a great deal of truly horrifying-looking Dolls on the market in the "Good 'ole Days" before Asian Dolls came into Ascendance. here in the soft-n-cushy 21st century, we do see some fairly weird dolls come to market from time to time... but so far i've yet to see much that even begins to approach sheer ghastliness of many of the high-end/boutique label/one-of-a-kind offerings i've found solicited within old Doll Magazines from the 1990's on back. Thank the Lord that i am blessed with the healing presence of my little Oreo♥Cookie here in 2024~ Edited January 1, 2024 by Tasuke
cluffy Posted January 1, 2024 Never been scared of any of my own dolls, although last night I watched that creepy Twilight Zone episode about the ventriloquist dummy (and the "Living Doll" episode too! It's a New Years Eve tradition to watch the Twilight Zone in my family) & found myself thinking about it before bed.. I glanced over at my Marisa in the dark just to make sure she hadn't moved, haha.. In general most dolls don't scare me, and I even have a soft spot for creepy looking dolls sometimes (especially old nun dolls & kewpies), but for some reason dummies & mannequins really freak me out! ;;;w;;;
mukyuu Posted January 1, 2024 The scariest thing about dolls for me is when I purchase them and it leaves a void in my wallet. Unfathomable horror.
roro_robot Posted January 1, 2024 I'm not a huge horror fan but even then I have never been scared by dolls appearance-wise in media like that or in real life. However I did find that after getting my first one I was unexpectedly very worried and unsettled about handling and keeping it around me for at least a month or two until I got used to it. Taking time to learn how to move the limbs and pose them properly helped a lot with gradually easing that anxiety (alongside investing in stain protection clothing). My brain also has a habit of personifying things around me so having that applied to a doll also took a while to get used to all on its own. It's now become a comfortable sort of feeling like having a very suspiciously quiet pet around 😆.
Roserolls Posted January 1, 2024 Can't say I've ever been afraid of dolls tbh, I've always thought they were just cute and pretty. However, I did get a little freaked out when I put my Liroro bjd on a higher shelf once without realizing that they have follow-me-eyes, gotta say that turning my lights on in the middle of the night to be greeted by this look was a bit surprising... I also had her standing on the shelf the whole night and she was fine, but as soon as I looked at her in the morning thinking, "Wow, how great she's stayed standing this whole time!" she fell flat on her face...my dolls have impeccable comedic timing I guess 😅 I've seen lots of vids/tiktoks about "creepy haunted dolls!" and it will show a Miku DD with follow-me-eyes or something lol. It's kinda funny seeing all the commenters getting spooked and being absolutely convinced that it's haunted 😆 (...the concept of a haunted DD or anime style doll is really funny to me, I wonder if the haunting would help lower the price in that case 🤔)

MoiBakaDesu Posted January 3, 2024 I can't find anything about MJDs/BJDs or any fashion dolls creepy, just sculpts or styles that I personally don't find appealing, but that's about it. Baby dolls, esp the very realistic ones, that is where the true horror lies in my opinion.
Xiongmao Posted January 3, 2024 I was a bit weirded out by Frieren when she first arrived. She's quite unusual looking. SD Mytyl is also a little creepy and I think the vinyl dolls are a little unsettled by her. Our scariest anime related item is a haunted Sakura Miku noodle stopper. She's fallen off the shelf several times now and maybe just doesn't like sitting on top of the Chobits manga. And then of course there's DD Kazuha//modded N25 version. We're working on a tutorial for how to make light up dolls eyes like these. 1 My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
