mincy Posted February 1 hello everyone 😄 alternate title: WIG GOO P: so it almost feels like xiaohongshu is like, full to the brim with beautiful wig styling beyond my greatest dreams. the hold and lustre im seeing is a far cry from the products i currently use for my own cosplay wigs - i mean, some of 游戈g's are even glossy (link), its absolutely mindblowing to me. meanwhile the styling wax i personally have mattifies when dry and even causes white spots X"D (at least it holds well, i guess...) but i'm flat out terrible at Chinese so it's a big struggle trying to find out what these folks use xD if any info shows up in the subtitles or audio, i'm just completely clueless. so i'm asking for some help in finding out. if anyone has an idea, i'd love to hear! here are some examples of the flat-out amazing wigs i'm talking about: (by 游戈g) (from earlier in the post!) (by 游戈g, too - they're amazing) (by Norinsea) (by Rino的手改毛)
MoiBakaDesu Posted April 15 Sorry to necro this thread, but honestly I also would love to know. This kind of styling always looks so crisp and clean, with my trusty Got2B hair glue I haven't been able to recreate it. But I guess they also use further tools for styling. But yeah, if anyone has an answer to that I also would be thrilled.
blisseycake Posted April 15 I don't know if this helps, but there's a comment on the one by Rino asking for the glue they used, and they responded that it was in the pinned comment. Which...it wasn't in the pinned comment itself, but there are 6 replies I can't see because I'm a little too lazy to make an account. If you're logged in, maybe you could try checking with a machine translator in those to see if there's anything that mentions the glue?
MoiBakaDesu Posted April 17 Chinese apps always with their mandatory accounts and all, haha. What I can already see is that I have to step up my game with the use of a hair straightener, the only heat I use was usually the blowdryer, because the straightener is a bit intimidating to me, but it seems really helpful to make some gravity defying styles work out better, with less product in it.
blisseycake Posted April 17 To be honest, I've only been finding steam useful. I just tried to put some curls into a wig for a doll's cosplay, and even tried wetting the hair and using a hair straightener, but the curls mostly came apart when the hair dried. Meanwhile, when I put the wig into the shape I liked, held it over boiling water for several minutes, then let it dry overnight, the curls came out great. Rino uses a steamer in the linked video, maybe I'll have to dig mine out to try it...
mincy Posted April 18 ah! wig-styling comrades! i'm so happy actually to see others interested in this. so excited to see you here @MoiBakaDesu because i think seeing your wig styling on here made me think of the ones i've seen on xhs and stuff :"D your dolls are so great ❤ very inspiring @blisseycake it's great to know that steam works so well ❤ thanks for mentioning that! well, my guess is that folks are using this by 咕咕の小卖部 or this by 丹尼假发. i have no idea what they're made of or if there's any international equivalent (or any safety directions? >_<) but... it's probably these! if youre able to look in the reviews, there are lots of lovely shiny results lol the seller of the first ones recommends using a synthetic brush to apply the fixative. it seems the type B option (liquid, not gel) is most popular for that product, and recommended by the seller for newbies. some comments might have pointed towards the fixative being washable with water too, so you can just wet it if you make mistakes? o_0 convenient! i'd like to try it, if i can! i just haven't been able to get myself to do the whole ordering process... i'm not sure how much liquid is allowed overseas and all. ive read that at least some couriers are fine with small quantities so i imagine 50g would be fine, and i've had gel shipped before if it comes to that. hopefully that gets us closer to having the right tools for the job! 2
