jun97 Posted March 14, 2011 This looks like a fun place to hang out, so I thought I would join in. I got my first DD about a year ago. Like a lot of other people, I learned about them through Danny Choo's website. It actually took me a long time before I decided to get Aoi, but I did, and then I got Sakura, and Mari afterward. I guess its just that first one thats hard. I have been posting pictures of them recently at figure.fm. Since then, I got into DSLRs because I had to take pictures of my girls. I bought a Nikon camera, then some prime lenses, and now some new flashes. I had a lot of fun learning about aperture, and ISO, and shutter speeds. I have to say that today's DSLR cameras are amazing. I also took a try at sewing, just to see if I can. I usually try to figure out the patterns by myself, draw it on a CAD program, and print it out on 1:1 scale. I can do a few simple things now. This part is pretty hard for me, (its the cheapest part) but its worth it when I make something that looks good on my DDs. I think this is the first hobby of mine that triggered another 2 different ones at the same time. And now, I'm posting at forums, which is something I never really did before this
mitsuki Posted March 14, 2011 Welcome, jun97! I have seen your lovely family on figure.fm! They look like they are always having fun. Congratulations on adopting and getting such a nice camera. I know what you mean about the first adoption being the only hard one. Good luck on your sewing adventures. I am looking forward to seeing more of your girls. Nakitaninja Posted March 14, 2011 Yay more new people! Welcome, welcome~ I'm from DoA and not Figure.fm but I think it's amazing how many folks come from the separate hobbies for the DD girls. They really are the ultimate doll/action figure for me... and I suppose all of us! *^^* I can't wait to see pictures of your family. Yes, the first one is tough because it is a lot of money but then you fall in love with the hobby and it's just kind of... over. Now I have a 'doll room' in my house for the construction side of things. I only have 3 dolls thus far and they don't take a huge amount of space. Anyhow, I've gone on long enough. I just really wanted to say 'it's nice to meet you' and welcome to the forum~

OtakuDepot Posted March 18, 2011 I fell strange saying "Welcome" when I'm so new here but..... Welcome! haha I've loved your photo stories of your girls you post on figure.fm. You said you shoot Nikon (Yea!!!) Mind if I ask what camera? I got into photography a few years ago and still have so much to learn but it's a great hobby to go along with DDs. I just upgraded from my first DSLR, a Nikon D60 - soon to be finding it's way on Ebay. I just got the Nikon D7000. Mostly for the very high ISO shooting and HD video it has as well. I've seen the outfits you sewed on figure.fm as well - very nice work. I bought a sewing machine a few months ago but haven't done much with it. I just finally got around to setting up a dedicated sewing spot so I'm hoping to do more soon. jun97 Posted March 18, 2011 I fell strange saying "Welcome" when I'm so new here but..... Welcome! haha I joined after you so thats fine. I've loved your photo stories of your girls you post on figure.fm. Thanks for the compliment on my pictures! I also think I have much to learn. I decided on a Nikon d5000 after a lot of research. Five months later I heard about the D7000. By that time, I knew what features I really wanted out of a DSLR. I sold my D5000 gear (body + zoom lens + kit lens, I kept my 35mm prime) to a friend, and bought the hard to find (at the time) D7000 body only. I was after the low light and high ISO performance. I think its a really great camera. Since then, I started buying more lens to try. I now have a 11-16 ultra wide, 24, 35, 50, 100 macro, and a 70-300 zoom. I figured I needed a few good lens to take advantage of the D7000 features. I've seen the outfits you sewed on figure.fm as well - very nice work. I bought a sewing machine a few months ago but haven't done much with it. I just finally got around to setting up a dedicated sewing spot so I'm hoping to do more soon. Cool! What are you going to try making first?
OtakuDepot Posted March 19, 2011 Cool, another D7000 shooter. I'm in love with this camera but I still have so much to learn about all these extra features. I love being able to crank the ISO up to 1600 or 3200 and have no worries at all! On my old D60 I was in the danger area if I went to 800, I preferred not to go above 400. haha You have a nice selection of glass I see. Right now I'm still using my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 a lot, usually around f/2.8, because I love that shallow depth of field. I still have my original kit lens 18-55 f/3.5 - 5.6 since I need something wide still. Oh, I also have a Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 for going long. As you can see - I need some fast glass. I'm starting to save up for a wide f/2.8 Sigma lens as I think I'll use it more than the 70-200mm f/2.8 (which I also want). Unfortunately Sigma just raised their prices about a week or two ago... I think these are going for around $700 each now. DD girls aren't the only expensive hobby there is. haha Well, as for sewing I'm starting easy. Tonight I hemmed a pair of old sweat pants that needed some fixing. My pants, not DDs. I think my first project for my girls will either be Chuns sock tutorial she posted or Kuraikawai's underwear tutorial. If I'm not too ashamed of them when finished I'll post them here. jun97 Posted March 19, 2011 I mostly use my 35mm f/1.8 and the 24mm f/2.8 for my DD pictures at f/5.6. My only non-nikon lens are my Tokina 11-16mm ultrawide and my 100mm macro. The Tokina lenses are very sharp, and I like them a lot. They're cheaper than the Nikon equivalent versions, but still around $600 for one and $400 for the other. I haven't tried Sigma yet.
