Modding a Nose?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone here could speak on making a doll nose larger? Or maybe even look larger? I have seen plenty of eye and mouth mods but maybe I've just missed the nose ones lol.

Most nose mods I’ve seen are actually to make the nose smaller and are all subtractive mods done via carving and sanding. It’s more subtle so it’s not as easy to notice which is why I assume no one really talks about it.

If you wanted a larger nose I would say you should do an additive mod like sculpting one out of sculpey!

Edit: I am not sure, but you might have more luck finding examples with the resin BJD side of the hobby since those aren’t usually aiming to have the pointy tiny dot anime noses.

That's a good idea, I haven't messed with sculpy in a while I'll have to get used to it again. I suppose really it's just a issue with the anime styles in general, small noses. Still some anime now a days do have different styles, I hope maybe one day we will get a vinyl bjd with more variants.

I wouldn't want to add much, it would be a "cutesy" bigger nose since I really like the more chibi style dolls. Maybe I could shade it to have more emphasis.

Something like this I suppose?

Generally I don't attempt additive modifications with vinyl because so few mediums want to stick 😵 For what it's worth I've seen monster high/fashion doll customizers use apoxie sculpt for additive mods:

Oh gosh that's some intense modding! But this is very helpful, never messed with epoxy before.

Granted, this person is incredibly good at additive modding! You're probably using an Imomodoll which is good since it's better than practicing on a more expensive DD head. Praise the sun for the budget vinyl company that is Imomodoll, the price of a DD is why I was intimidated about mods in the first place!

On a side note: she was my intro to BJDs, hilariously! She did two reviews of two BJD dolls and I learned of them existing that way. I still was a vinyl brat then who only cared about OB11 dolls, so getting a BJD came later with Shen Xiaolong!

Haha yes imomodoll you guessed it! I haven't bought THE head for the mods yet but I'm trying to plan ahead. Modding is very daunting! I've only cut down the eye wells on mine and even then I was so nervous I would damage the outside of the head. If they were more expensive I wouldnt have dared! Im so grateful imomodolls exist. Additive modding somehow seems less scary...for now hahaha.

I've watched a lot of Dollightful videos too (not all of them though since I missed this one lol!), but I got my start seeing Nichole's Dreams. I was so in love with how pretty her work was. It wasn't until later that I found people modding Monster High! Heck it wasn't until this year I learned about OB11 dolls. How do you find working with them? They're so small and my nendo is so delicate maybe I should switch his body.

I didn't work with them much. I wasn't very good at it either. Nowadays I mostly use them for Obitsuroids! So far it's Venti and Aoba who are Obiroids, but I plan on doing it to a Len someday! 😊

Dramatical Murder Aoba? He's on my list for potential nendos lol. Right now all I have is Gilgamesh.
