AntElitist Posted February 27, 2012 For example shots like this Blue blood by AIKO[ARAEL]-開到花蘼, on Flickr You can see overall shades in this photo which is really hard to do it even with strobes. So I want to ask how do I learn to photoshop like this?

AntElitist Posted February 27, 2012 All i can say is: I want photoshop too T_T I think I am confident with my high key technique. Now I am looking to do Low key like that, but that's not considered low key

PlasticFantastic Posted February 27, 2012 Something like what Arael does. Which shows significantly dark tones Some of it can be achieved just through adjusting a photo's levels. What version of photoshop are you using? I can try to explain some techniques. Despite not doing much (if any) postwork on my photos I do have photoshop experience. I'm still running CS4 (bought it when it first came out) but my advice will work on any version. Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! juu-yuki Posted February 27, 2012 It looks like he bumped up his black levels on lightroom. The effect is easy to do. There might be a bit of vibrancy and contrast added. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com

The saturation and contrast I think he did fiddle with, I don't use lightroom so I'm not super familiar with it, but it is possible to increase the black levels in photoshop too. It's possible to do in Ps too. I find lightroom faster and better designed for simple photo editing XD. Eiher that or I am just bias because I am loving LR. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
jadepixel Posted February 28, 2012 I think Lightroom has better options, but you can adjust the levels in Photoshop. Left side of the graph is black, right side is white. The three arrows represent black, mid, and white values. If you drag black arrow to the right, and nudge mid tones to the left a bit, the contrast improves nicely. You can also set which tones will become pure black by clicking the black eyedropper button, and then the area of the image to darken. The histogram window will also give you a good idea of the amount of dark tones in the image. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
MaxArcher Posted February 28, 2012 I personally have always found levels easier in Photoshop. LR is great and I use it heavily, but the easy histogram and simple sliding points in PS's levels panel usually get me where I want with minimum trouble. Anyway, the OP photo looks pretty straightforward to me. Just a light of some sort, probably through a softbox judging by the quality of the light, from below and to the left of the camera. It's probably pretty low, but not at floor level, judging by the lack of catch lights and the shadows. There may be a second light source but I don't think so. Otherwise it looks like it probably came out of the camera looking pretty similar to that. You've got your normal levels and stuff but probably not any really heavy processing. AntElitist Posted February 28, 2012 Thanks for the feedback guys. I do know about the levels but personally I depended on lightroom to export my image. I never use Photoshop to edit but to add watermark only. I think I give leveling and dark lvl a try and see.
