Where do you buy 1/6 clothes?

Recommended Posts

PlasticJester

No, seriously, where do you buy them? I always felt like the bjd clothes market was saturated with 1/6 items until the moment I owned one. I'm looking for a blue hoodie to finish out an outfit for one of my 1/6 Imomodolls. But I can't seem to find anywhere that has casual 1/6 clothing.

I know the answer to my question is probably 'Taobao', but lately Taobao has totally destroyed my ability to look at anything on the website, so at most I can see maybe 8 items from any given shop. So any other suggestions would be welcome!

aliexpress would be a good place to look (as long as you're careful about which sellers you buy from)!

I found blue hoodies here and here, although they're a bit expensive for what they are. 🫠

My answer would indeed be taobao, but I have also noticed that browsing the site has become even more of a pain than it already was, which really is a problem for me, because it is my primary source for anything doll related ... even looking at the shops through a proxy isn't giving me the full selection anymore.

It's the same for me, I'm used to looking at Taobao for doll stuff. Unfortunately it feels like a lot of Aliexpress and Etsy's options are just the items from Taobao but 10x the price... OTL

With aliexpress, my best advice would be to wait for an inevitable sitewide promotion and use coupons/credits. You should be able to get pretty close to what you'd pay using a proxy (assuming the seller's markup isn't a total rip-off, which it often is lol).

I wish taobao wasn't so obnoxious, I get not being able to purchase but why can't we just browse? 😞

I like Aliexpress for basics or cheap clothes (just make sure they aren't 1/6 for barbie or blythe), otherwise I use taobao resellers on ebay like angeladeer-520 and goodboyyer-6. Definitely don't use etsy, their prices are outrageous! I've seen clothes I've gotten from ebay or ali for $20 being resold for $50-60.

Bhiner/BJD Bhiner, Dollyteria, Mandarake. Dealer sites like Legenddoll have an enormous selection of clothes but you can browse there, find out the name of the clothing brand, and then buy it from the original Taobao shop for cheaper.

1/6 clothes are a bit tricky to look for since there are so many different bodies for them IMO. My 1/6 are Obitsu and Piccodo20 and sometimes Azone’s Pure Neemo clothes can fit them, albeit a bit tight on the thighs. Anything labeled for Blythes/Licca usually fit too, I’ve bought some via JP Etsy-lookalike - “Minne” and they fit perfectly. I’ve found clothes for 六分の一男子図鑑 a bit loose, but OK-looking.

For chubbier 1/6 dolls, maybe Booth? CN creator 木茶動物園 has a shop there and they sometimes make 1/6 outfits for TinyFox and YoSD.

Granted, most of my fav 1/6 outfits are from Taobao…

Off topic, but did Taobao change their website on desktop? I’ve been browsing exclusively with the app and I haven’t noticed any changes in the past few months.

I'll dump some stuff here, since I agree it can be a pain hunting - this is all specifically for YoSD 1/6 and not fashion 1/6, with links going directly to the specific sized section where applicable.  This is also assuming you know your doll's measurements and roughly how they compare to YoSD standard sizing, as well as how to use proxy services already.  I am speaking solely from a USA standpoint as well, so I can't comment on the situations for places with rough shipping and exchange rates (sorry Canada), or VAT/Customs fees (sorry Literally Everyone Else).

-------------------------

Taobao & Resellers: TB is a pain to access as a foreigner, but it can be done through proxies if you want to try.  However, if you don't mind paying a bit of a markup for the convenience you can access Taobao items through resellers on Etsy/Ebay/AliExpress.  Etsy tends to have the highest markups, whereas Ebay isn't so bad depending on the seller.  AliEx is easy to use, cheap, but you can sometimes wait a long time for shipping.  Legend Doll also carries items Taobao - their markups look really high, but keep in mind you aren't paying proxy fees (it still tends to end up more expensive here, but again, if you just want a no fuss shopping experience through a storefront it's an option).  With any Etsy/Ebay/AliEx reseller, you run a risk of receiving no item or an inauthentic item; read reviews to determine trustworthiness and quality.

Mandarake (no proxy): One of your second hand options through Japan - item condition can be anywhere from new in package to heavily used.  Make sure you are looking at the photos and reading the description which will give you hints "shows signs of wear/package damaged/stained" etc.  Oftentimes you can get really great deals on pieces with very minor issues.  Note: Mandarake has several locations, and they do not consolidate, so be aware you will pay shipping per shop location.  HERE is a direct link to their YoSD clothing section.

Dollyteria (no proxy): Your other major second hand option specializing in doll items!  Lots and lots of things, and they have their own condition ranking charts.  Similar to Mandarake, you will want to look at the photos as best as you can (some locations look like their photo inspiration is serial killer's disposable camera, just try your best lol) and read their notes on the item - they will generally list things as no issue/shows signs of wear/fraying/stains or funky scent etc.  You can get new/like-new items for great prices.  Dollyteria has several locations and they WILL consolidate, so after checkout you will need to wait for them to confirm item stock and gather the pieces before you receive a shipping payment request - this can sometimes take a few days, so don't worry if you don't have an instant reply.  HERE is a direct link to their YoSD clothing section.  HERE is a direct link to their Dollfie accessories section, which is not size sorted so you'll need to browse around.

-------------------------

Yahoo!JP Auctions (proxy required): It's Ebay, but Japan.  Pretty self explanatory! You will have listings that are auction as well as the equivalent of Buy It now.  You will need to use a shopping/bidding proxy if you are overseas, so just use the one you favor most.  It helps to know your search terms so you don't have to shop blind or dig through menus.  There is always a risk a seller will not deal with a proxy, which may or may not be stated in the listing information.

Yahoo! Flea Market (proxy required): The partner site to above, this is...pretty much as described.  It's a second hand interface for individual sellers, so you will need to know your search terms and pay attention to photos and listing info.  There is always a risk a seller will not deal with a proxy, which may or may not be stated in the listing information.

BOOTH (proxy required): This is an artist market, kind of like Etsy - you will be shopping through individual stores that often times have several size options for items (some doll stores also have shops here, like Sen Doll).  You will potentially need to pay attention to a few things: selecting the right size, checking if the item is a ready stock item or requires time to prepare (this is generally listed in the info and/or directly under the purchase button).  You run the risk of your proxy not buying an item in time if there is limited stock, but you can often find really great stuff through here. Not all shops are Buyee compatible directly, so you will need to do extra steps through a proxy if you want the item.  Certain shops have Overseas Sites so you can bypass proxies altogether, which will be listed in their shop profile (ex: Psycho-Lab, Melody.C).

Your Search Term: 幼SD will directly bring up any listing specifically for YoSD size.  You can combine it with 1/6, but be careful using 1/6 alone as it will populate fashion doll sized items.

-------------------------

Ebay/Mercari/Local Secondhand Sites and Apps: Self explanatory.  Shop smart.  Check reviews.  Avoid obvious scalpers.  Ebay is saturated with sellers pulling from Yahoo and Dollyteria listings with absolutely bonkers markups, don't fall for them.  It is worth the extra few minutes getting comfortable with sites like Dollyteria and using proxy services to save yourself the money.

-------------------------

Shopping Through BJD Makers/BJD Markets: A majority of BJD sites produce lines that are equivalent to YoSD, and of course there is Volks themselves.  This is as easy as going to the site itself and finding the size of clothing you're looking for (if you're ever unsure, you can look at the doll listings for measurements).  There are a lot of places, but here's some just to get you started!  Note that on Korean sites, YoSD sized is often referred to as USD.

Volks JP / Volks USA: You can purchase from the JP website even as an overseas customer, and you will generally save money doing it that way even accounting for fees and shipping.  The JP website stocks new items first, stock tends to differ on storefronts.  Browse each one to determine who has what you want, and compare cart prices to see which will give you the most bang for your buck.  Sometimes the pricing is a biiiig difference, sometimes it's only a couple dollars.
