How to repair a metal gooseneck stand?

Recommended Posts

JewelryJelly

I have a metal gooseneck stand that screws into a round, clear plastic base. Unfortunately, one of the nuts that is supposed to go into the base has come free of its housing, and I've tried multiple times and methods to glue it back in, but nothing has taken. I've used Gorilla Glue and UV resin, and both have failed. Does anyone have an adhesive they recommend for this purpose?

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, you can see both the tightening nut and the socket nut at the end of the screws:

That should thankfully be a really easy fix - you don't even need glue.

  1. Screw the thin nut off the arm and slide it into the recess of the acrylic base
  2. Screw the arm (with the thick nut still on it) into the small nut from the OTHER side - so the acrylic gets sandwiched between the nuts
  3. Tighten to taste

Exactly this, the acrylic base goes between the two nuts. Don't feel bad though, took me ages to figure out too, since the damn things don't come with instructions!

Here's a photo to hopefully explain further.

The only gluing you can do is glue the thin nut into the well on the bottom of the acrylic. I frankly mostly do this more so I don't lose the thin nut than anything else, it doesn't do thst much structurally.
