roro_robot Posted June 25 (edited) Finally made a thread to post photos of my dolls and to also document my beginning in doll customs! To start off we have my first project, a custom MDD of one of my oldest characters Boo! I decided to make him using the DDH-29 because it has my favourite look from all the heads available. I made two different expression references but ended up liking the second one more as it felt a bit more fitting for the character and would also make a nice contrast to my other MDD with the same DDH who already has a softer expression. I tried my best to capture the original drawings style while also toning it down a little to not make him look too out of place next to my other dolls, striking that balance was important to me and I'm pleased by how that turned out considering that it's my first attempt. Next time I will be using much more of the paint medium because the main issues I ran into was caused by using too little of it while trying to keep the paint application smooth and consistent. Despite having shaky hands the lines came out neat enough for me to be happy with which I was relieved to see. I wish I had taken more progress photos, also please excuse the image quality as they were all taken rather unprofessionally on a phone 😅 Flash forward to the final look after spraying with the last layers of matte sealant, eyes and wig included this time! The eyes were a surprisingly accurate and lucky second-hand find on mercari and the wig turned out a touch lighter in some photos than anticipated but I do really love how it looks IRL. Here he is in full Bonus photo of Boo and Taliah together! I'm very happy with how different in style yet still fitting I made him look while next to her and Kaito.
