Kemonomimicry Posted September 29 Browsing through Mandarake's old listings, I came across this (long sold out) custom head: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1234435318&ref=list&dispCount=240&categoryCode=02011404&keyword=ddh&lang=en ...and that made me wonder, why don't we see more blood-splattered custom heads? There are enough custom heads that look disturbed, but ones that look like they just violently snapped are hard to find. Have I just been looking in the wrong place? ragnamuffin Posted September 29 I can’t get the page to load, but I’m assuming it’s something from @miho34dolls. She often does disturbed heads that are sometimes gory, which is the main reason I no longer follow her, but she’s the first person I thought of when I read your post. Roserolls Posted September 29 (edited) I feel like it's because any "add-ons" to a doll's makeup tends to lower their versatility for customization a bit? I've noticed on resin bjd sites, the most common question always seems to be if they can leave out something from the doll's original makeup that makes it stand out (like hua dian, scars, cat whiskers, etc). So, I'm not surprised that blood splatter isn't very popular either. Also I don't know if it's related, but I've noticed a huge decline in popularity of the murderous yandere trope in recent years, especially compared to the late 2000s or early 2010s. It's possible it might have to do with the actual attempted murder in 2019 that became known as the "real life yandere" case. I think a lot of people got turned off of the fantasy of a violently obsessive anime girl after it became a little too realistic. There's sort of been a revival with the landmine girl trend, but I think that's become more about the fashion and aesthetic than a character trope like the yandere, and is definitely less violent and bloody. Kemonomimicry Posted September 29 (edited) @ragnamuffin Yes, that one. The one in the listing is fairly tame (besides the blood). No unhealed facial scars, just looks kinda splashed. I'm not sure I would want to own such a head - because they only work well in a particular type of situation - but mostly wondered why the "yandere" archetype is somewhat popular yet the logical consequences of such characters are not in dolls. I think this depends a lot on where you look. Yandere girls may have died off, but yandere boys/men are alive and thriving in visual novel communities. That said, as we've established in another thread on the forum, vinyl boys are a bit niche in the Japanese community, so I'm not surprised we aren't seeing many yandere boys represented. After all, we have a difficult time getting run-of-the-mill pretty bishies, let alone anything on the fringe of popular tastes. 2 Kiyomi DDS DDH-06 🧡 Miyuki DDS DDH-06 🧡 Shiori DDS Mariko Summer Festival 🧡 Kanade DDDy DDH-07 🧡 Honoka DD DDH-09 🧡 Priyanka DDS Anthy Himemiya Any pronouns are fine
PlasticJester Posted September 29 Funnily I'm actually considering making a yandere-type head for a character of mine! Though no blood, I wanted the sculpt to be more versatile. When it comes to blood-splattered, though, I believe a doll owned on-site is blood splattered? I can't remember her or the owner's name, she has red hair and armor legs...

That's not something I've really thought about. As to why you don't see them here, we have a guideline that forbids it. No adult or inappropriate content. Content that deals with pornography, rape, pedophilia, extreme gore, glorification of torture and violence, self-mutilation, abuse, and suicide are not allowed and will be removed. This includes text, links, images etc. We aren't draconian about that rule, but disturbing content would be removed. 2 The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
luna_Lillie Posted September 30 I've actually seen a lot of blood splatter, yandere, dark type customs on Xiao Hong Shu. So I think it's more popular on the Chinese side of the hobby.
Giragira Posted September 30 I think it's just because most people who like this sort of thing are expected to make it themselves/commision it. Kind of a niche interest. Rena is an official dollfie dream doll and comes from a horror game, still no blood on her.
CocosContestHall Posted Sunday at 08:15 PM (edited) Gotta love me a good doll that just absolutely lost the plot. Completely bonkers. Off the deep end. Downright bananas, even. Edited Sunday at 08:15 PM by CocosContestHall
