Master_Drive Posted October 24, 2024 Hello, I'm rather new to doll collecting, but I've been in the anime subculture for ages. I primarily collect anime figures and build model kits. Most kits are military in nature, but many of those kits are mecha musume (like Frame Arms Girl) in nature. After going down that rabbit hole and spending more than I'd like to admit buying aftermarket hair, faceplates, eyes, accessories, ect I realized I should just buy a doll. And it might be cheaper and definitely easier to modify. Now I'm here with a few Azone and Obitsu dolls, moving from anime figures to "anime" dolls. The ability to pose, use fabric clothing, and customize them is what I find most appealing. Coming from 6" models its a god send. I plan on building my own Obitsu 50cm or MDD, but I really need to work on my faceup skills. I have a few spare heads and some Mr Superclear that I'm using for practice. I also need to work on my sewing skills which are quite rusty.
sgodpal Posted October 24, 2024 Hi [: I also fell into dolls going from figures to model kits to eventually dolls (though I've always had a passive interest ^^) Azone was also my first for dolls It sounds like you've done neat customization on your girlpla kits though, I've seen a few hair + eye mods for them but not too often! kotobukiya's mecha musume are my favorite to collect, but i've always been too apprehensive to ever custom one yet, it's def something I wanna try eventually though [:
Xeliicious Posted October 24, 2024 Welcome! Always nice to see another girlpla enjoyer here 😎
Master_Drive Posted October 27, 2024 @sgodpal I highly recommend it and its quite fun (if not bad for your wallet)! It add a whole nother layer of complexity and can give a truly unique model. There's tons of aftermarket parts, the only problem is that they're released in limited batches and the popular ones can sell out in hours. If you have a 3d printer or know someone who does, there's lots of models you can buy or find for free. You'll find most of them on Booth and if you want I can PM you a list of search terms to find parts since they're mostly in Japanese. @Xeliicious Same! I wonder how much cross over there is between girlpla builders and dolls considering the similarities.
Xiongmao Posted November 7, 2024 Welcome. I have a big doll family and also a 3D printer. Sadly we've not progressed much beyond making coathangers and stuff. I did try to make a set of Miku hairpieces but I wish I was better at 3D design apps. My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.
