Sprouts sprouts!

Recommended Posts

For Valentines Day, Littlebearries MDD girl Sprout sent my Sango a really nice package with all sorts of goodies in it. Among the gifts were some seeds and pots for growing flowers. Sango was very excited about getting these because she had never tried to grow anything before. So we set to planting the seeds in the included pots and soil medium. About 2 weeks later, after daily watering by Sango, we have some really tall plants sprouting up! Sango wanted to let Sprout know about this so she asked if I could dobleepent her taking care of the seeds so Sprout knows she is taking good care of them.

"Papa! Is it time? Can we water the plants now?"

Yes Sango, let me get things ready for you.

Here is where we keep the pots at, up on the window sill in the kitchen so they get a lot of sun.

I have a bunch of spider plants up here that I grow from offshoots of the main plant and give away to friends and family. I also have an Aloe plant up there for when I get scrapes and burns since I'm a clutz. Here you can see the two small pots tucked in between the larger pots.

Well, you sure hopped up there quick!

"I'm ready to check on the flowers! Can you get them for me?"

Sure thing.

"They're getting so tall now! All my watering and care is what's doing it."

You've been really good at taking care of them Sango. Sprout will be happy to see them.

"See? They're getting big and strong."

"Now to water them.... drink up guys."

"You're good little flowers. I know you'll grow up strong and pretty."

I don't think you have to pet them Sango.

"You hush."

"So how much longer before these bloom Papa?"

I'm not really sure Sango, the package didn't say.

"I thought you were supposed to know these things. I guess I'll have to have Google tell me since you can't."

Outdone by the internet yet again...

"Thank you again for the seeds Sprout! I'll make sure to have Papa continue to dobleepent the progress for you."

This was so cute! What kind of flowers were they? I cracked up about petting the plants... sounds like something I would have done.

Thanks! They are Forget-Me-Nots. She's all sortsof into this so she really treats the plants well. I just try and tease her and she ignores me.

That is so cute! I love how she delicately holds the watering can. I heard if you talks to plants, they do better. I can't tell though. I can't get plants to survive long. I think Sango is much better at caring for plants. So did she find out how long she has to wait for them to bloom?

I wondered if that's what they might be. Unfortunately for me, my attention span is too short to do well with growing things indoors.

What I have seen of Sprout, she seems the type to want to be loved a lot but won't directly ask for it. I would have a poster of Sprout on my wall if I could.

Thank you! She takes great care of these guys, I'm so proud!

Talking to plants doesn't do too much other than give them more carbon dioxide since thats what we breathe out. So if you do it alot and every day, it will help a tad. But nothing to make them really go crazy with growth.

All I could find out about them is that they bloom in the spring. So I don't know how long they will take to actually bloom or if they actually will. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

I've always liked plants and such. I was even a landscaper on a golf course for 4 years. So I like growing stuff if I can.

Yes, I agree about Sprout. She tries to be a hardass but her true self always seems to peek out. I'd have a poster of her too if I knew it wouldn't make my girls demand posters of THEM all over the place too.

Maybe we could get Littlebearries to put Sprout's pictures on Zazzle post cards, and you could do that with your girls as well so they would have their glamor shots!

That sounds like a fun idea! I can print my own photos at home so maybe I'll do up some 5x7 or 4x6 shots of each of the girls to have for themselves.

Aww, how sweet~! Sango really cares about her plants. ♥ She's also much better at growing them than I am--we received some of the same kits from littlebearies' Alna, and our sprouts are only tiny touches of green just peeking out of the dirt. I hope they bloom for Sango soon!

Aw, how sweet! Though right now they kind of look like alfalfa or sunflower sprouts, which kind of makes me want to eat them.

Maybe I should get some chives so Nanoha has something to use our teeny watering can on.

Hee hee... she does really care for these plants. She's great at making sure they are watered daily. So yours aren't coming up as much? I wonder why.... maybe it's colder where you are or they aren't getting as much sun during the day. Being down South makes for warm sun regardless of what the temps are outside.

Thanks! I've never grown these or the ones you mention so I have no clue how they're supposed to look. I just know they're growing well and Sango is happy. And I totally forgot I even HAD this watering can until I saw Fairy Nanoha! I was like DRAT I have something similar..... somewhere.....

Thank you sir! She's done a great job so far so I do hope they bloom for her. And it's funny that so many people here say they aren't good with plants! I hardly do anything but give them water, sun and the occasional bit of fertilizer and they seem to grow well.

That's probably exactly it. I live in Chicago; we've had a mild winter, which means the temperature has been hoovering slightly above freezing (with a few extra-warm and a few extra-cold days for variety). We also don't have a whole lot of sunlight right now~ I was concerned that the current weather wouldn't even sprout the seeds, so even a speck of green is encouraging. ♥

Yup yup! Being up north where you are will definitely affect the amount and intensity of the sunlight. Temps inside the house are fine tho even if you keep it in the mid to upper 60's. Most flowering plants like this will grow well in temps anywhere above 50 degrees. Below that is where you start to get damage to them. And yes, any progress is good to see!

I haven't grown sunflower or alfalfa either, but I must frequent sticks-and-twigs health food stores more than you, because where I've seen them is in the produce aisle. XD Both are tasty, but I personally prefer sunflower to alfalfa; they're thicker, so they're much less stringy in your mouth and have a better flavor.

Lol, yay inadvertent reminder! I did get a sense of deja vu seeing yours; didn't make an appearance in one of your other stories too?

What is this "health food store" you speak of? Never heard of it.

Ha ha! Yep, when I saw Nanoha all dressed up like that with the watering can, it clicked that I had gotten one a long time ago and just never used it. So no, this was the first time I had used it in pics with my girls. I'm glad I could use it tho, it was cute seeing Sango watering the flowers.

Thank you Salica! Sango has been really good with the flowers, she shows great responsibility. And she did mention you weren't the best at indoor plants. I thought she was teasing tho.

I will make sure she knows Sakuno is interested in the flowers! Sango has already made me promise to keep doing photo updates for her so Sakuno will see the progress for sure.
