Velvet on soft skin?

Recommended Posts

AAce

I’m planning on making a custom doll case for my wife’s AP for Christmas but i’m not sure what to line the inside of the case with. My current plan is to use velvet but i’m not sure how safe it is for soft skin. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a better liner?

I don't really have any experience with AP soft skin, but I'm somewhat knowledgeable on fabrics. I think it would be more likely the velvet gets dents from the doll than the doll getting anything from it, since the velvet fibers are quite soft. But I don't think that's very likely either since vinyl dolls aren't heavy, that could be a problem with resin dolls. Of course you'd have to use white velvet because anything else could stain the doll. So I think velvet could work and look and feel luxurious.

Thanks! white was already the color I had in mind. I still plan on doing some more research into fabric types, but for now i’ll experiment with velvet :)

What about the issue of getting lint and fibers on the dolls skin or clothing?

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

she always stores her dolls without clothes to prevent staining. I’m hoping because velvet is so fine it won’t leave much fiber on the doll.

With the nature of velvet it is likely it will leave lint, but it depends a lot on the quality of the velvet. The fabric has "hairs" stinking out that are cut from threads loosely woven into the fabric, so it is more prone to lint than other types.

What about using satin?

I'd probably use satin myself if I was making a doll carrier. I'm quite a fan of cotton satins, though if I wanted it to be very luxurious silk satin would be amazing (though very expensive). Polyester satin is also a possibility, but might cause static electricity and mess up wigs more than necessary.

If you don't mind my asking, of those options, which is the easiest to manage wrinkles and creases on?

That again depends on fabric quality, but cotton creases and wrinkles easier

Polyester satin has the best wrinkle resistance. It's also the cheapest type of satin, and its intense shine is considered tacky / unsophisticated by many dressmakers. For a doll carrier lining, though, its appearance is fine.

In general, natural fibres like cotton and silk will wrinkle easily, whereas synthetic fibres like polyester are wrinkle-resistant. Semi-synthetic, cellulose-based fibres like rayon fall somewhere in between.

Moved on to resin BJD
