"Yay mommy!"

As of this evening, I am now a registered college student, a very nervous one too. If someone would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be going to school to become a kindergarten teacher, I would have thought they were nuts. When I graduated high school fifteen years ago I was sure I would never attend college. Life surely knows how to lead someone through a very winding path. One of the things I'm thoroughly looking forward to is our community college offers a two year Japanese course that I should be able to start in the fall.

Although most of the time when I'm on here my outgoing side is usually in the forefront, I am feeling unbelievably shy as I post this. I've been a housewife for 12+ years and I'm used to keeping to myself, so it is gong to take all the courage I can muster to get used to going to school again. If you have any kind or encouraging words to pass on it would make Tamayuki (and his mommy) very happy.

Congratulations! That is wonderful! I hope you have a lot of fun with school. It can be intimidating to start something new. I am really shy too unless I am talking to other socially dysfunctional scientists. I hope you find some friends in your classes. It helps to have someone to talk to.

Yayy!! Congrats! Good luck and study hard and all that stuff! Then, when you are making all those BIG BUCKS as a teacher, you can put me through school, right?

I really am proud of you though. Way to go!!

Thank you so much everyone. Your kind words really do mean a lot. I think after my mom's uninterested response I was feeling additionally anxious. She wouldn't even stop watching the TV for the minute and a half it took me to tell her. I should be used to that by now, but I guess I had hoped that something like this would at least get some sort of notice.

The last time I was in school I strongly disliked it and only did it because I had to. But after being away from it for so long and finding my own interest to focus on, I found that I absolutely love learning. One of the things that I really like about getting older is I have learned the right way to become more confidant in myself and my abilities. Knowing if I find friends at school, I have the right to be myself. I never felt like that in middle school and high school.

Congratulations~! Good luck with your goals! The world always needs more teachers, especially those who care. ♥

I'm still in a bit of shock over all of this. In hindsight, my choice is very obvious, but that doesn't lessen my surprise. In grade school I was so privileged to have three excellent teachers that I adored, and unfortunately one I despised (the rest I don't remember.) So much of the time even now I think about what made them so wonderful to me, and the caring is the singular thing that made them shine. You could always tell that they loved to teach.

Grats! You can totally do this. Go fight win!

*looks around for some pompoms to give to Poofiemus* You just crack me up! I'll have to write that on my school binder.

If by big bucks you mean living at least comfortably somewhere that makes us happy and plenty left over for our DD, I'm all for it!

I bet some people would think I was nuts, and the are right! I'm such a dork, even just buying school supplies makes me unbelievability happy, and it always has.

Thank you so much!

Once I set my mind to something, I'm rather like a train going down the tracks at full speed. Sure I'm scared and want to go back to hiding away from the world, but I'm so excited that it would be thoroughly disheartening to do that. Besides, if I did, what would I use my new bento box for?

Since I registered a bit later, it was a struggle to get 15 credits in with classes that wouldn't keep me at school all day. So I have English at 8am, Intro to Literature at 9am, a three hour lunch and a web design (HTML) until 2pm. Getting home by 2:30? I think I can handle that.

Lol, that'd be awesome! Though if you do that, I think it will require a picture of Edna Mode too.

That's really funny.

I'm already trying to figure out how to answer questions of pics of Tamayuki that I'm highly considering putting on the cover of a clear 3-ring binder. I figure, why not? Other people put their kids as a priority, so there isn't any reason I shouldn't! Besides, I can't take him to school with me every day... it would cause too much wear and tear on his body and I'm going to miss him! This coming from the girl who lugged her 10 pound Shakespeare book to class every day for a quarter, and LOVED the bug-eyed looks everyone gave her, including her Shakespeare teacher.

You should be so proud of yourself! I know with my mom, she was an at home mom for 20+ years, how hard it was to put herself out there and go back to school/work. It is not easy and takes a lot of courage to do it.

I think you are incredibly brave and I wish you the best of luck in school and then teaching the little ones.

You sound very passionate about what you are doing and I know your soon to be kindergartners will be reaping the benefits of your hard work!!!!

Congrats again

Thank you very much! I have always been the type of person to follow my dreams, even when it didn't make much sense to anyone else. Sure it's a lot of work no matter what it is, but it's worth it, helping you achieve things you didn't know were possible until you reached them. One of my personal quotes for years has been: When you have dreamed the biggest dreams that you can, dream bigger!

Just by doing that, you are able to see what direction to go to reach them.

My mom went to college for six years, starting when I was in fifth grade, as a single mother with four kids, so I easily remember how hard she always worked at everything. Just like so many other things with myself, in the back of my mind I had a tiny bit of a clue that I might eventually go to college if I had something that I wanted from it badly enough. I realized today that it's only another three weeks until classes begin (April 2) and I started to get really nervous. Then I told myself that me being scared didn't matter because this was going to be FUN! I always love reading adventure stories, so I just think about all of this as a madcap and wonderful adventure full of thrills and excitement. Wait a minute... that's generally what I think about life anyway!

Finally I've had a chance to give an update on how things have been going since I started school two weeks ago. First I have to say that time has been insane! If anyone wonders, do not take an English class and a Literature class in the same quarter. I thought the English would be the harder of the two but I couldn't have been more wrong...

I love my Literature teacher who wants us to address him as Lord Vader when he calls attendance. He is really fun but his expectations feel near imposable. He expects us to be reading the daily short stories that are assigned, read the assigned chapters, and do the extensive worksheets for both, read the novel that he assigned that will have an extensive essay written about it in a few weeks, as well as reading Othello. Did I mention that he expects us to be two days ahead on all of our assignments, before they are even assigned? And all of his tests are essay tests.

It is a good thing that I really enjoy listening to his lectures... I regularly spend 4+ hours a day on homework just from his class, leaving me hardly any time to let me do something to alleviate the stress before I have to go to sleep and do it all over again.

My English teacher is nice, but I never expected to have one that was Scottish with an English accent (not American.) She apparently went to a University in London I think, but I still don't know how she ended up here...

When I signed up for my web design (HTML) class, I really wasn't sure if I would like it. I started learning some programming in 8th grade (BASIC or Pascal anyone? ) and at the time it was somewhat fun, but very confusing. I was expecting the same general outcome from learning HTML, so I really didn't have high hopes. I couldn't be happier at how wrong I was. Going to that class everyday is like being given a recess, I feel like I should be getting in trouble for how much fun I have in that class. Best of all is that the assignments are divided into 4 phases, and no final! Technically turning in phase 4 is our final, but at least I don't have to dread it! Professor Henderson said that we could chose any subject that we were interested in to do for our webpage. I just couldn't resist so I'm working on a page for Tamayuki and Dolly! On Friday we were finally showed how to upload our files to the server we will be using, so I can show off what I've done so far:

The Small World of Tamayuki and Dolly!

This is just Phase 1 so far, so nothing uber fancy but there is some CSS in there that I think I did right and we won't be covering that for another two weeks in class. There are some things that I still really want to fix (like the freaking tables that won't center...) but Raven is really proud at what I've been able to accomplish in 24 hours. The blocks of text will be better in the future, my brain is just too fried to think about what to say. I love this class, I can be as silly as I want! Although it's kinda freaky to be the oldest person in the class, even my professor is 2 years younger, and I'm only 33!
