Custom OC DD - head opinions?

I've been thinking of getting a DD and sending her head to be painted to match my favourite original character of mine. Honestly I've been considering shelling her in resin too but the anime style sculpts available in 1/3 don't seem to have any options that would suit her, and I prefer DD heads for anime style sculpts overall.

I've narrowed down my potential choices to DDH-09 or DDH-14 (and mayyybe DDH-07), but I'm having a hard time settling on one, which is where I'd love some opinions!

Here's a few pictures of my OC, and some photos (courtesy of Jadepixel website) of both DDH-09 and DDH-14!

I know the faceup artist will have to do some faceup trickery to make her eye shape work on either of these heads, but out of all of the non-limited heads around I felt like these were the most likely to work? If needed I'd probably pay for a small reductive eye mod to flatten the top eyelids' curves a bit if I really had to.

It doesn't seem like I can add a poll or anything but I'd love to hear opinions and even suggestions if you think there's any other heads (including limited ones if you'd like to suggest some) you think would work!

My personal notes:

• - I like the chin shape of DDH09 more but the nose of DDH14 more
• - I feel like both have a mostly equal potential for eye shape
• - I think both expressions suit her, but I have a hard time deciding if I want her to look more deadpan (09) or more confident (14) as her "basic" expression. In terms of personality, I'd say she's deadpan 60% of the time and confidently smiling 40% of the time
• - Jadepixel website says DDH09 is discontinued, so I don't know if getting her this head (in semi-white most likely) will be difficult or not
• - I'm open to eye mods to make the eye shape more accurate (if I can find a faceup artist who will do them) but I prefer reductive (removing vinyl) and would strongly prefer that over additive (adding material)

DDH 09 and 14 both seem well-suited to your OC’s proportions, and they’re so similar that either could work. 09 in particular is such a classic sculpt and probably the most popular choice for mature custom heads.

This is only for Dream Choice. The discontinued heads are still widely available as blank heads.

Yes, DD-H-09 and DD-H-14 have quite a similar style, that's why I like both of them, too. The 14 looks generally a little bit younger. It's slightly smaller than the 09 and that's why I think the 14 feels best at home on a DDS (and to some degree even on a DDP) body. It always feels a bit off to me on the wider neck of the regular DD, but with the new DD 2.0 bodies with thinner necks, that might not be an issue anymore. The 09 works great on both DD and DDS.

I think the head shape of the 09 would fit well for your character. - I could see the 24 as a possible option too, if you think you can work with the mouth shape.

Both 07 and 09 (in semi-white and flesh) are generally available as blank heads from Volks, so they should be relatvely easy to source. The 14 and 24 are limited to Dream Choice (and come painted). - You'd have to get them this way or try to source one on the aftermarket.

 If Volks ever released a slightly altered 09 with these altered eyelids, I bet it'd be popular. 😁

An eye mod would help to better match your character, but maybe a clever faceup might even be sufficient: One of the vendors at the conventions here likes to bring an 09 as a model where they imply the eye shape through clever faceup. But it may only really work with darker color eyes.

Oh it's good to know 09 won't be hard to get! I guess that's why I see it so often as customs too.

I really appreciate your thoughts on various options! I was thinking of putting her on a DDS body since she's supposed to be short, so it's good to know 09 and 14 look good on DDS. As for DDH24, I was actually considering it, but I feel like the mouth would be limiting.

Not sure about the faceup options; I do want her to have the lashes painted a lighter colour to match her hair, so maybe it would be best to do a mod, but I guess whichever faceup artist I go with will also give their opinion on that?

If it helps, you can look up either of the sculpts on instagram by doing #ddh09 or #ddh14 to see how they look with various faceups. I tend to make "lookbooks" of the same sculpt with different faceups when deciding if I wanna use a sculpt or not for a specific project.
