Hello!

Semi new to BJD but also I jumped head first into this hobby after years of pining a little over 6 months ago and now have 6 dollfie dream dolls... 😳.

I have scrolled through this forum a bit but then decided that I wanted to make an account and hear what others that have been in the community longer have to say and see what the hot topics are lol. I have a dream to own one Super Dollfie Dream(SD Mācha specifically(I know I know a girl can dream)) and potentially make a few custom BJDs in the future based around series that I love like Monster High and TGCF! 

I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere and am currently pursuing my Masters in Civil Engineering which translates to not a lot of people around me share my love for dolls so I desperately want to make some friends! Grew up around lots of Victorian era bisque and composition dolls and American Girl as my mother has a deep love for those so I enjoy seeing restoration and stylized customs so much! I remember seeing photos of the Volks DD Miku back when she first came out wishing I had the means to get her. Fast forward quite a ways and my BJD family consists of: OG, Snow, and NT Miku, NeiR:Automata 2B and 9S, and Frieren <333

I am excited to learn more on this forum and meet new people! 

(Also I have been contemplating getting a commissioned custom faceup of my OG Miku. Does anyone have any recommendations :)? Thank youuuu)

Welcome to the forum! That's an impressive collection, especially after 6 months! They do tend to multiply quickly 😅 Are you planning to go for Sakura Miku when she releases?^^ I'm also in the middle of nowhere 🤝social media is the only way to meet other doll people haha.  
As for faceups, I think suggestions are easier with knowing your country (or if you're willing to deal with international shipping) 😄

I am planning on it yes 🫣😂 And I am in the US but depending on the work I would be open to international

I grew up around vintage dolls too! Primarily Madame Alexander and estate-sale Barbies, haha. I understand that explosive growth in dolls too, they can really sneak up on you. Hope you enjoy it here!

Welcome. Well done with NT and Frieren. I have both and they're very collectible. And yes, doll families can multiply quickly (see below).

We have one SD but she's very delicate so just sits on her shelf in the hallway.

The vinyls are kind of indestructible and often move around the house. Right now Takina is guarding the hallway and Chisato is standing beside me. Aqua is hoping there will be some kind of party going down later.

Oh I use to have so many Madame Alexander dolls! They were always so diverse in style 💕

Oh my gosh your collection is so beautiful!! So lovely. Do you have a specific way you like to display them normally? I've just taken to displaying them in my room on a shelf or my desk away from my cat (although he his very well behaved and doesn't seem interested in them).

I had to learn how to tighten and repair the DD skeletons because of my OG Miku and I have seen first hand how sturdy they really are. It's very cool how they are built! Of course I am still anxious to take NT and Frieren out and about but that's just anxiety over never wanting to mess up any of my precious dolls 😌 

I've never had a resin doll like a SD but I find I am more partial to the faceups for the DDs anyway although I really hope to have one in the future! Honestly mostly because I am so fascinated with how they are made, and the only one I have fallen in love with just had to be Mācha ughhh she's precious lol.

Welcome! I grew up around American Girl Dolls too. I wish every doll company would sell the outfits separately the way they do. I think that in the 90's you could even buy replacement accessories like the hankies and jewelry. Civil Engineering, wow. What kind of work would you like to do in that field? I agree that doll families can grow fast. I've got on unfinished project and ideas for two more.     

Dollbot at least sells their fullsets like that, which I appreciate. I only had one American Girl growing up, but I absolutely love their historical collection!

I currently do research in water treatment which would be really cool to do professionally but I am just big on solving problems with thoughtful design work! And yes old school American Girl (Pleasant Company) was were it was at lol. My mom would hunt down the older stuff for me because I was always so gentle with my toys so she wasn't afraid of me breaking anything. Loved my Samantha stuff so much!

I was suchhh a historical AG homie. Samantha was my first doll and she was my favorite because I grew up deeply adoring Victorian era styles. All of my stuff was preowned because my amazing momma was an ebay fiend and that was the only way we could afford any of it too so that did mean I had mostly 90s era Pleasant Company stuff (which tbh was the iconic stuff imo lol).

I will have to look into Dollbot, I've never heard of them before!

Thank you hehe!! And I do! My Kaito dollfie  I only got him recently but adore him so much! Seeing him live at Miku expo then having his DD arrive made me so happy I could explode, lol.

Omg Kaito!!!!! I love his dollfie sm! I know the way he is represented in the fandom can be all over the place but his dollfie looks so kind to me 😭 

I was like "hmm I need him in my life" and my partner started giving me the side eye which like.. FAIR I don't have the room rn but hey maybe in the future hahaha. He's such a great one tho, that's so awesome. And yes him at Miku expo was so freaking epic!!

LOL the side eye!! and yeah the addiction after getting into DDs is SO REAL LOL I have dolls in the mail but no idea where I’m gonna put them 😵‍💫 and glad to see you went to the expo too!! (I was the only kaito cosplayer at mine lol!)

Miku expo was amazing, I want to go back agh. I didn't cosplay just because we did a lot of walking before hand so I didn't want to feel uncomfy but I did bring my miku big mouth bag and light stick so I was still repping lol.

I just have a regular DD with a DDH09 head on the way that I’m going to try my hand at customising! (as well as an imomodoll) so fingers crossed I’m able to pull it off 😭

And same argh!! Wish it happened more often!! Maybe I would feel safe enough to bring kaito with me next time (though I feel like that would stress me out haha)
