Seriously, I've been hiding from cameras, since I've been a child. I can't do nice selfies nor can anybody else take good photos of me. So, in the end, my skills are a little underdeveloped. I'm trying to my dolls justice with just my smartphone camera. I'd appreciate any tips you have concerning backgrounds, posing etc. 🤗

Here's Aqua at my local forest. It's such a sunny day. 🌞

(I was afraid of losing the bobble hair thingy. 😐)

Going outside for backgrounds like you have here is already a great first step! It generally a little easier to find a nice backdrop outdoors than to make one indoors from various things if you don't have experience setting up scenes and backdrops.

If you need help framing your doll in backgrounds, you can look up "the rule of thirds". I think some phone cameras can turn on a rule of thirds grid in the photo settings, too.

If you do more outdoor shots, you could also consider shooting around "golden hour". It's supposed to be a really nice time for good lighting for selfies, but I think it would look nice in doll photos too. It depends on the season for the exact time in am/pm, but golden hour is the last hour before sunset, or the first hour after sunrise. The light will be "soft, warm, and diffused" (according to google, anyways).

For pose inspiration, I find that looking up pictures of people doing fashion modelling for things like magazine covers/inserts, is helpful, or looking at stock poses made for illustrators, like ones by creators like JookPub or AdorkaStock. I think the key thing to remember is that dolls have harsher limits when it comes to posing. They can't always bend as far as people can, so some poses might be hard or impossible to achieve.

Sorry for so much text, I hope some of it is helpful! I think you've already got a good sense of angles and posing intuition though, just from these photos you've shown!

I hope you have fun with your photography journey!
