ragnamuffin Posted April 4 So I mentioned this in the Waiting Rooms, but someone on Twitter posted about the ob11-sized Cherry Blossom Tea Party (樱花茶会) outfit that Cytoys (the maker of the Nagi Beast Boy dolls) released in March. There isn't much information about it in English, but basically it's a pink Taisho Era-style kimono and bonnet set. Several blindbox doll companies seemed to be doing something similar at the time, but I liked this one the most, so I browsed Cytoys' Taobao store to see if there was anything else I wanted to add to my order. There I found the standalone sakura-themed Nagi doll they supposedly released in limited quantities last year and she was IN STOCK and SUPER CUTE! So naturally, as one does, I added her to my cart, along with the outfit, some bodysuits and some headcaps so I can give her a real wig. I also picked up two pre-opened blindbox Nagi dolls from the third and fourth generations, but I'm not going over those in this post, so I'll save that for another time. My stuff arrived about a week later and unfortunately it was a bit of a disaster. The tea party outfit was not in the box, and I guess the shock from that soured how I felt about the dolls. I haven't even opened the other two, and the sakura-themed doll—not sure if her name (樱花) is meant to be read 'Sakura' or even 'Ouka' in Japanese or the actual Chinese reading of 'Yinghua', but since I don't need any more dolls named Sakura, she's Yinghua to me—didn't look quite as cute in real life as she did in the owner pics I found. Her eyes were kinda beady, I didn't like the molded hair, the bangs kept falling out, and to top it off her sock had a hole in it 😩 I was not a happy camper. I got the tea party outfit for a special early sale price that was no longer available, so even if I got a refund, it would cost more to buy it again. I reached out to Cainiao logistics and had them look into, but they determined that it wasn't an issue on their side. Feeling despondent that I wouldn't get the outfit or a refund, I tried reaching out to Cytoys directly. To my surprise, they actually have English-speaking staff (which made things a million times easier than going back and forth through machine translation) who were super sympathetic about the whole thing. Idk if they did in fact forget to pack it, or if they just took pity on me, but they kindly sent a replacement that should be sitting at the warehouse now. I'm really grateful to their staff because they turned a nightmare situation into a really positive experience. So, after I cooled down a bit I finally came around on Yinghua, and now I think she's SUPER CUTE and want to show her off, which is why I made this long-winded topic. So without further ado, here she is in all her glory: Even the packaging is shaped like a cherry blossom 😆 There's a tiny hole at the bottom near her feet where you can insert a box cutter or knife and pry off the blister so you don't have to rip it to pieces like a barbarian (Kika Goods does this in their YouTube video...), but note that it doesn't come off completely cleanly even with this method. I'm putting pictures of the naked body below in a spoiler tag: Spoiler Front Back Poseability. This is the extent of how far she can pose each limb, except the bust and torso, which can rotate 360 degrees sideways. The body is sturdy but not super poseable and not super aesthetic. The elbows and legs can bend about 90 degrees forward and not at all backward, while the knees can only bend 90 degrees backward (can't sit seiza). The bust/torso has three sections but they only turn sideways since there's no internal skeleton. The body I got seems to have some light staining and the ball joints and hands are a slightly different colour to the body itself, but I'll live I guess since she's going to be wearing a bodysuit most of the time (not that I think the clothes she came with will stain her). Front Back The hair is molded, which I didn't like at first, but it's starting to grow on me. The bangs keep falling off, which seems to be a recurring problem with these dolls, but the hair has a nice smooth feel to it and the paint job is fantastic. The eyes are tiny chips with nubs so you can't put them in the wrong way, and the neck connector piece slots into a hole between the eyes, so the eyes always seem to get pushed into the sockets in a specific way no matter how much you fiddle with them. Despite this, I really like the interplay of red, white and pink in the iris design. They did such a good job of incorporating so many different shades of pink into the colour scheme from head to toe on this doll. Also, her face is HUGE! This fact is especially obvious when you have her next to other Nagi dolls. At first it bothered me, but like everything else about this doll, eventually I came to accept it. Her eyelashes also have a red/pink hue to them, and somehow they even managed to incorporate tiny white cherry blossoms here too, which are sadly out of focus. She also has one tiny fang in her mouth, which is also out of focus here but is easy to miss irl too. Inside of faceplate: You can buy blank head shells so that you have them wear wigs. There are different heads for different generations. Their customer service told me 3G or 4G would be appropriate for Yinghua, but unfortunately there's no visible way to discern them that I can see so I don't know which is which anymore. I got two 3G and one 4G head and only one seems to seems to fit well, so I guess that one is 4G. Go with that one if you decide to get one. There's a bit of gapping between the faceplate and cap, but I guess it doesn't matter if you plan to have the doll wear a wig. For wigs, I think 5 inch is appropriate. I had her try some on and 4 and 4.5 were too small, while 6 felt a bit too big. I'm still on the lookout for one in an appropriate style and colour. She came with three sets of hands. These appear to be Hand Set B which they sell separately and they're glossier than the plastic on her body. One set is a peace sign/scissors with rock hands, another is grabby hands (maybe the 'beast' in Beast Boy?), and the last is item holding hands, even though she doesn't come with anything to hold. These shoes have little cat ears on them, which I find adorable. I love that they're a different shade of pink to her dresses, eyes and 'ears' (I'm not actually sure what they're supposed to be, ears or accessories on the headband?) She came with two dresses, a skirt, underwear, socks and a tail. She came wearing the salmon pink tunic, which is a little wrinkly because I've had her sitting in it for the past week or so. I love that the design is so simple, but the small accents (the white collar, ribbon, ruffled lining and sakura print) make it look a bit chic. As I wrote above, one of her socks had a hole in it, but @XOHimitsuOX kindly sewed it up for me. She also comes with a tail, which has an elastic on the end that you can hook onto these extra buttons on the inside of her clothing so that it dangles behind her. Even though I don't really care for the tail itself, I do think it's a clever way to attach it. I haven't really had her wear the fancier dress on the left, although I did put it on her specifically for this photoshoot. It doesn't open the whole way and the top is very tight-fitting, making it hard to put on. Someone on YouTube took her body apart at the waist to get it on, which is what I ended up doing too, but that's not really feasible when she's wearing the bodysuit below. The white skirt underneath is also a really tight fit at the waist and I had to put it on her torso while she was still in two pieces. It's a lovely outfit and I like that the colour scheme matches her shoes, but it's a real hassle to get on, and I don't like that it creases under her bust. This is the bodysuit, which did NOT come with the doll. I bought it separately on their Taobao store for super cheap. It's been stretched out of shape since she's been wearing it basically since I got her, but when it first arrived it was TINY! Like, laughably smol. And there's no opening at the back, so you have to stretch it over the feet and up the body. I thought it might rip, but it's actually very, very stretchy and easy to get on and off even without an opening. I like that it hides her joints nicely. Here she is in her fancy dress and tail. I'm still not sure what animal she's meant to be or why she even has a tail. I know she's a repaint of one of the characters from the second generation, and that one is a lamb. But Yinghua comes with a long tail like a cat or something so idk what they were going for here. Maybe Cytoys doesn't know either? Here she is in her tunic with her tail. Her hair is really heavy, which makes standing her up a challenge. I find myself putting her in poses where she's leaning forward a lot, which I don't like. Her hair also limits the movement of her head. I guess that's why all the Nagi dolls since have had short hair or long hair in braids or ponytails. It's a shame because the paint job and head ornaments are exquisite and she looks really nice with long hair, but the molded hair is just so cumbersome to deal with. I'm hoping a wig will give her a new lease on life... Yinghua keeps me company while I work on my laptop. Even though I was really disappointed with her at first, she's completely grown on me and I'm very fond of her now. I'll probably post pictures of her again in the tea party outfit once it arrives, but I hope this post was useful for anyone looking for more information about this doll.
