Averis Posted November 19, 2010 My first DD has arrived. Unfortunately, the UPS left the box outside our screened-in porch. Had I not seen the orange label she could have been outside all day. >. The box had a big dent in it. >. I didn't put the head on yet since I'll need to paint it anyway. Next I need to get the paints for her face-up, decide on a wig (I have 3 picked out), and get her some clothes. (WARNING - There's some doll nudity. )
Sachi Posted November 19, 2010 Congrats on your first girl! The H04 head is a great choice for a head mold. Can't wait to see her finished up!
mitsuki Posted November 19, 2010 Congratulations! I am sure she will turn out fantastic! I can't wait to see her finished.
Averis Posted November 19, 2010 Thanks! I'm pretty nervous about doing the face. I just hope my drawing skill can come in handy, but I don't usually draw on a curved surface. At least with the protective spray, I think if I mess up I can try again.
TheWhiteRabbit Posted November 19, 2010 Congrats on your first gir! Poor thing being left outside! postal workers can be so careless Can't wait to see what you do with her. She will be lovely. MsGeek Posted November 21, 2010 My Namiko-tan is a MDD with a DDH-04 head. The faceup that was done on her was heavily influenced by the Volks Haruhi Suzumiya faceup. The chubby cheeks and the way she smiles make her look a bit softer than Haruhi. As soon as I get to the point where I can post photos, I promise I will. Averis Posted November 21, 2010 Thanks guys! I've spent the last couple days trying to nail down her look and plan what to buy. I might have to commission an outfit or learn to sew one myself. @MsGeek Did you do the face-up? I look forward to seeing her. Post, post, post.
mitsuki Posted November 21, 2010 I know Namiko. She is really, really cute. MsGeek said that her friend Biff did the faceup, and that Haruhi was an influence which you can tell. Here is a photo: If it helps, here is a photo DD Rei (default faceup) without her eyes in so you can see the paint more easily: It is done with layers of light and dark brown paint for the eyelashes. Here she is with her eyes back in and with eyelashes attached:
Emi Posted November 21, 2010 Congratulations! I have a DD with a DDh04 head, and I love her very much! c: I can't wait to see how yours turns out~
MyuMyu Posted November 22, 2010 Wow! Congrats for getting your first DD! I love the way they come in the transparent box H-04 is my favorite head, I am sure you will get an awesome girl. Don't fear giving her a face up, you can delete it as many times you need until you get something you like. I use the foam sponge to delete the parts I don't like . I hope to see the girl complete soon, enjoy her
baldylox Posted November 23, 2010 Very nice! Congrats on your first DD daughter! I also purchased a DD-04 head recently to go along with my Rei's older DDI type body. I had that head painted by the same girl that did Manami and she turned out great. Here's a closeup of her at a doll meet: And her next to her body donor Rei: She sure has that Haruhi mischeivious look to her! I plan to give this new girl to my sister for Christmas as she really likes my Manami and has asked me many times about the DD's. She has no idea she is getting her so it should be fun watching her open the package! Again, congrats on your new girl and I also cant wait to see how she turns out when she is finished up! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Averis Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks again guys. The pictures are great. Hope I can come close to that. I'm going for something soft, I think. It will be a while, though. This will be an ongoing project. I put in the order for the eyes, putty, UV spray and head wig cap. I'm looking at 2 wigs from LUTS, like my resin girl has. Does anyone know of a good seamstress that takes commissions? Wonder if chun will take a job like she did for Danny. That or I'll have to buy a sewing machine and learn myself. baldylox Posted November 23, 2010 Not to put you off but trying to get Chun to do a commision is like finding hen's teeth. I talk to her off and on quite a bit and she is always super busy. She is currently backed up with commisions and has not been taking on any new ones for months now. It won't hurt to ask her but just know that she is very busy all the time so you may get a "sorry but I can't" right off the bat. But Chun is extremely nice and always answers emails and messages promptly. D.ark is also very good and she does take commisions. But she is also very in demand and has a busy job schedule so she takes a little longer on making things. I have 2 outfits from her and both are of amazing quality. She is meticulous and very good at making Dollfie clothing. Give her a try and see what her schedule is looking like. I have not asked her yet but Jessica from Nightfall may do commisions. She just posted up some Xmas/Santa outfits for DD's over on Figurefm and I asked her about those same outfits about a month ago. So she took that idea and ran with it and the sets came out very nice. I own a lot of her clothing and its of great quality. Shoot her an email and see what she says, she's very nice and easy to talk to even tho English is not her first language. Hopefully that can help you out. Let us know of any progress you make on any of them! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. mitsuki Posted November 23, 2010 So she took that idea and ran with it and the sets came out very nice. You are a fashion genius. That is great that your idea came to life. Her site says not to order both the red and white one, but two girls in matching outfits would be so cute!
Averis Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks baldylox. I figured chun would be impossible to get. I'll have to look at the others or try my luck in the DoA marketplace.
baldylox Posted November 24, 2010 So she took that idea and ran with it and the sets came out very nice. You are a fashion genius. That is great that your idea came to life. Her site says not to order both the red and white one, but two girls in matching outfits would be so cute! I don't know about genius but I know what I like. I mentioned it to Jessica and she said it was a good idea but she was very concerned with staining from the red coloring. I told her she could easily do a layer underneath and she agreed. But I didn't think she'd get around to doing a set! I'm happy they came out so nice but seeing as I *just* got some other stuff from her, I cannot afford those right now. And I totally agree that 2 or 3 girls in the same outfits would be cuteness overload! Maybe next year I can get her to do them again way in advance so I can have all 3 of my girls wearing them. baldylox Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks baldylox. I figured chun would be impossible to get. I'll have to look at the others or try my luck in the DoA marketplace. Well, don't take my word as gospel on that but I am pretty sure she stays super busy.... at least thats what she keeps telling me. Let us know if you get any hits on a commision! As for DoA, there are some good people over there and I am actually in talks with a girl now about doing some long jeans and some hot pants too. I have seen her work with kimonos and she is *very* good with those. She is supposed to be getting back to me soon so I'll let you know how things go when I hear back. Averis Posted November 30, 2010 Well, I'm one step closer to getting her together. I got the eyes, UV spray and such. I need to order a wig and I've been looking at sewing machines, but I've been hesitant to make the plunge. I've never sewn anything in my life, but with the outfit ideas I have it might be cheaper to learn to do it myself. Anyway, I'll post more updates as things come along. mitsuki Posted December 1, 2010 That's really exciting! What kind of eyes did you get? What color? Baldylox posted about this site: http://www.alicescollections.com/ They have pretty inexpensive clothes and shoes. They look quite nice too.
Averis Posted December 1, 2010 They are the teal / light green ones. Well, she's supposed to be a character for a story I'm working on. So I have unique outfit designs in mind that I won't find in a shop. I'd probably drive a commissioned seamstress crazy. I have a friend that used to make cosplay outfits that I can talk to for some general sewing tips. I did looked at that site, though. Certainly some nice stuff. I'll bookmark it. mitsuki Posted December 1, 2010 That sounds great! Good luck! Your custom outfit plans sound elaborate. I hope you get the look you want. What kind of shoes did you have in mind? Sewing clothes sounds easier than making your own shoes.
baldylox Posted December 1, 2010 Alright! I can't wait to see how she is turning out. Sounds like she is doing well tho. Yes, the site Mitsuki linked to has some really cool stuff and at reasonable prices. I know you aren't going to need it now but they also have shoes, undies and other accessories that you may want in the future. I just wish I'd hear back form them about when to expect my shipment...
