chien Posted April 3, 2012 I've been doing Monster High repaints recently-- it's what gave me confidence to decide to start planning seriously for a MDD of some sort after realizing that painting on vinyl isn't so scary. Here's a picture of my repainted Ghoulia (left) next to a default one (right): Toralei: Draculaura: I apologize for the links! My BBCode setting is on off for some reason-- most likely something to do with me being a newbie. These dolls are so addicting to collect. D: It's hard not to pick up more when I find them for less than $20 at Target, haha.

I somehow have five already-- which is more than how many big dolls I have. :3 Thanks!
littlebearries Posted April 3, 2012 LOL, mine aren't that great, I mostly just do them for fun. I did these a while ago but haven't done any more since... even though I have a ton of MH dolls sitting around waiting to be painted.
misskale Posted April 3, 2012 I keep thinking about the "create a monster" kits. Although, I think this is mainly because they use wigs instead of having rooted hair.
PlasticFantastic Posted April 3, 2012 Bad! You three are all very naughty!!! >_ Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!

littlebearries Posted April 3, 2012 I keep thinking about the "create a monster" kits. Although, I think this is mainly because they use wigs instead of having rooted hair. The kits are cool, I LOVE the skeleton... but I kind of hate the wigs they come with.... you would have to order them better wigs.
misskale Posted April 3, 2012 The kits are cool, I LOVE the skeleton... but I kind of hate the wigs they come with.... you would have to order them better wigs. I've heard they're 4-5 wigs, so I would expect those are available on ebay.

chien Posted April 4, 2012 littlebearries - WHAAAAAT but your tutorial helped me so much! I don't care what you say, haha, your repaints are great. I'm having issues with making my eyes as striking as your repaints. Amazing. misskale - The CAM kits are great for that reason, actually. I somewhat prefer how they don't have hair, because then it makes it really easy to get your own wigs or to glue mohair onto them. The wigs that come with the CAM sets are pretty ehhhhh though, as someone else already mentioned. The default hair on the dolls with rooted scalps is actually pretty nice though, on the other hand. Avnia - It was tough work! Thank you. It took a number of terrible tries to find a style that worked for these while still being my tastes. Arienette - Thanks for checking out the topic. I'm excited to hang with other MH doll enthusiasts. MonsterHighDolls.com is full of young kids, which is awkward sometimes.
GothicKDM Posted April 11, 2012 I think if i remember the Liv girls wigs fit the monter high, I have ....alot but i havent given it a try yet. Chien I really love your repaint style. I think that was one of the ones i first fell in love with that made me want to repaint as well. well that and Heather poking me to do it. I started to repaint one, but I have this terrible habbit of painting one eye....then leaving it for a week/month and trying to paint the other eye haha...i even tried to make myself paint them at the same time on an obitsu and it still didnt turn out how i wanted. I also cannot style hair for the life of me >_< so i keep looking at which MH girl i love the hair style on to keep for myself.
Crystaltiger Posted July 4, 2012 Seems no one has posted here in a while. lol But just wanted to add in I LOVE Monster High dolls. I have about thirty and 13 of them are out of box. lol Today picked up another Spectra to try and replace her head with the CAM Ghost girl's but I couldn't get her head off. :/ So now she is wearing the Ghost girls dress and accessories. She looks great. I'll link to pics when I can get them up somewhere else besides my Livejournal. Anyone on here a Livejournal user that is apart of the Monster High community? AerisAquata Posted July 5, 2012 I collect Monster High dolls too! I haven't done any repaints...But I want to root my CAM boys. I have one of every character released except for Gil, Clawd, and Nefera. My most recent acquisition is Rochelle Goyle.
Pink_blaise Posted July 6, 2012 I'm a MH fan too- only have 3 but they are customised by me- my favourite being my Ghoulia who has CAM skeleton body parts! I've seen sketches for a steampunk girl- she's a definite buy as soon as she's released!
SisterKyoya Posted April 2, 2013 Woopie! I can post in here now too! I have to say if it wasn't for my friend Meghan and her huge love of the MH dolls, I don't think I would have ever really noticed them. Naiomi has a thing for movie monsters and the goth aesthetic has been fascinating to me for many years, but the shape of the bodies was very weird to me. I knew it would be easier for me to get one or two of the MH than it would be to wait until she can get a DD. I have a bad habit of having nothing to say on topics that I have no interest in and usually end up looking hugely bored. At least in this case it was easy to fix. Now I can say that I'm a very happy owner of 3 MH girls, and Raven got Lagoona for Yuriko. I know it's very bad of me not to have pics yet, but there's a reason! I have been really spoiled by the magnificent quality of DD stuff that is so common. Comparing the MH clothes to the DD clothes made it seem like the MH come with unfinished clothes. Once I realized I could just treat the straight out of the box girls like they were sold in kit form, it made a lot more sense to me. Yes, I have uber high picky standards for doll clothes and design, even for this size. So the first girl that Raven got for me was Dance Class Operetta. She surprised me a bit because the pics on Amazon (where I went looking for the dolls one night) I think are of the original release of the doll. She has a really cute flip to her hair and her mask was red, yet the one we found in town has a purple mask, her hair is rather badly cut with no curl to it, and the hem of her skirt wasn't even sewn (yah, that will last! ). I think it is a good thing that I didn't see her in the store otherwise I might have passed on her entirely. Now her skirt has been completely revamped, the mask and her hard plastic purse have been repainted and covered in a gloss coat, her lips were re-glossed as well, and she is still waiting to have her hair hot water permed. Needless to say I'm very happy with her now. On Saturday I also bought Ghoulia (Scaris City of Frights) and Draculaura (Ghouls Rule) as well as a clothing set for Operetta. Not too thrilled with Ghoulia's outfit but she was the version of her that looked the most correct to me. I like her better with the white framed glasses instead of the red ones, and her lipstick is too dark, but I'm still very happy. Although it may sound like I'm complaining, I'm delighted that there is so much I can work on. It makes having the dolls a lot more interesting when I can personalize them. Draculaura I got mostly because of her hair and the spiderweb decoration around her eyes, but her wings are just awesome too. And yet again Operetta's dress needs a little bit of work so she doesn't look like a plain Jane. Ghoulia is wearing the top and mini skirt from the same set but the skirt is so tight I could hardly get it over her hips. Does anyone have a suggestion for the brands of paint to use? I currently have Delta Ceramcoat acrylic, but with working on such a small scale it seems kinda gritty. Is there another brand or type of paint that works better? What about thinner? Would it be best using the paints sold on the Volks site? Are those just model paints, or something a bit different? I used the Tamiya X-22 gloss on the parts mentioned above and I just love it. Sorry for the basic questions, I'm really not used to painting. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
