Joint "Burn-In"

Recommended Posts

marisa_doll

hi.

has anyone experienced as so-called "burn-in" of the joints?

"burn-in" is where, after initial factory stiffness, the joints become slightly looser to their 'normal' less-stiff levels... and retain that level for a long time.

i wonder because i have experienced some loosening but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse despite handling and removing the part many more times than initially.

thank you for any help!

I have experienced this with DDII frames.

The newer DDS and DDIII seem to do the opposite for me. Initial slight stiffness, increases to almost immovable stiffness, then the joints crack.

The DDIIIDy frame is a little odd so far, in that some of the joints, primarily the ones that seize up and crack on the DDS and DDIII, are a little on the sloppy loose side brand new. I'm hoping they stiffen up a little without seizing up, and that the modifications that Volks did to this new body actually help to prevent the cracking.
