RaveOfNightmares Posted April 10, 2012 I hit the post requirement to be able to post pics! (yay!...?) One HUGE problem though, the gallery limits the picture sizes to 512k and 1000x1000 resolution... The images output by my camera are 6000x4000, with .jpg file sizes in the 4-8MB range depending on DRO and other settings. What's a good way to post without having to horribly compress the images? 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. You will probably need to compress it anyways if you want to use the gallery here. =/ But a good way to post pictures is to upload them somewhere else and post them here using the IMG tag. Flickr does a good resizing job without actually resizing your images. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
Poofiemus Posted April 10, 2012 Yeah, I think most of us just toss a couple photos into the gallery for dobleepentations' sake and then put everything else on Flikr. It's much, much easier to use, especially for us crazy photostory people, for whom Flikr's batch-style uploading is a godsend. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. Averis Posted April 10, 2012 I recommend Flickr as well, and I made this site. Haha. The gallery here was merely added for convenience. It's not nearly as robust as Flickr or other image hosts. Either way, you'll have to deal with re-sized images since the text area on these threads are only a little more than 600pixels wide.
RaveOfNightmares Posted April 10, 2012 I found my old Photobucket login, so I loaded some into that and posted them in the Photos section. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. Kumi Posted April 10, 2012 You may use Google Picasa, it has the Export Picture option with adjustable picture size and adjustable quality (I'm using "Auto" anyway ), among other editing tools. Very helpful application and it's free.

Kumi Posted April 11, 2012 Don't know, I don't use the dashboard. Anyway, it's a standalone app - http://picasa.google.com/
AntElitist Posted April 12, 2012 The only thing I hate about Picasa is the unnecessary picture collecting. Either way, I have lightroom to manage my workflow so it handles everything. Picasa is only good for starter before moving onto lightroom.
Kumi Posted April 12, 2012 In Picasa You can set the folders to be monitored for pictures. I set only one working folder (with subfolders) and that's all. If You set "My Computer" (and it's afair the default action), then, well... Lightroom is okay, but I don't see the need to spend $ for such simple tasks like cropping and resizing. Since I have lightroom already. So I default doesn't need picasa anymore Lightroom is not just about cropping and resizing. It's important for me because I can do lens correction, white balance adjustment and exposure control
Kumi Posted April 12, 2012 Lightroom is not just about cropping and resizing. It's important for me because I can do lens correction, white balance adjustment and exposure control I know, I know IF You need and want this advanced controls then of course. I'm using ViewNX2 from Nikon (also free, but for Nikon cameras only) to get some more control of the images. Rarely. But basic white balance adjustment and exposure control Picasa has already. And I think majority of users doesn't need very advanced tools

Nothing beats a specialized workflow (Import > white balance > Lens correction > Exposure > Export in 1024px long edge) I had given up from ViewNX2. 1 is because I don't like it's control, 2 is because I don't own a Nikon only. I haz a Hassy to deal with too (Reason why I also don't use Phocus) It's about the users. I know most of them "graduate" from Picasa into Lightroom.
RaveOfNightmares Posted April 12, 2012 Only thing I have like that currently is the Sony Image Data Converter/Lightroom software that came with my A77. I don't really use it aside from converting the RAW files, as the camera does the Lens Corrections itself (as long as the lens is in the firmware database). I'm gonna have to learn how to do that stuff soon though, as I bought some old Minolta MD mount lenses from the 1970s along with adapters to allow them to fit my camera's A mount. It's going to be fun teaching myself how to use lenses that have no way to communicate their apertures, metering, or focus to the camera. At least I already know how to manually focus them, since I already do that with all of my auto focus lenses. lol 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. The images output by my camera are 6000x4000, with .jpg file sizes in the 4-8MB range depending on DRO and other settings. What's a good way to post without having to horribly compress the images? It's worth keeping in mind that no one's going to be able to view a 6000x4000 image on a computer screen. These days it's pretty rare to find a monitor with a vertical resolution much more than 1000. Once you go into a photo editting software and change the larger photo dimension to 1000 and the resolution to 96 dpi (resolution of PC monitors) the .jpg picture size should easily come in under 512 k, and the picture should look exactly the same at 100% size. I can't really recommend a good software package since I still use Photoshop 5 that I bought back in 2000. I've tried GIMP (it's free) a few times and seems to be fine for simple photo editting. I love Lightroom software for managing photos, it's geared toward photographers and makes managing, organizing, and editing your images very fast and easy. Another option which is a bit cheaper, is Adobe's Photoshop Elements. It's a scaled down version of the full Photoshop but you get just about anything you could want to use to edit photos for less than $70. I have Adobe CS5.5 but I rarely touch it really, Lightroom does about 99% of what I need an image editor to do and it's easier to work on multiple images at one time. It does cost a bit more though, about $150.
