charlieriley Posted April 20, 2012 Hi, just a quick hello--I'm not new to dolls and bjds at all, but am very much new to Dollfie Dreams, and have ordered my first, Yukino v. 2 -- I figured I'd start with a standard and see where I go from there, and Yukino makes me think of my much-loved SD Kun. I'm here to learn some stuff and meet people! Thanks!

baldylox Posted April 20, 2012 Welcome aboard! Glad to hear you got a Yukino, she is a great girl and you'll like her a lot. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Jezrah Posted April 21, 2012 OMG someone else from Pittsburgh!!! I knew there were other doll owners around but since I'm not on DoA I haven't really managed to find them. I saw some resin owners at Tekko but most of them didn't live in the city. Are you in touch with the community at all?

charlieriley Posted May 9, 2012 OMG I missed this, I'm sorry I seemed to ignore you! I'm on DoA, and I still haven't gone to a Pittsburgh doll meet! They meet at a Denny's in Monroeville on the first Tuesday of the month, which is an *ordeal* for me to get to (I'm in the South Hills), I'm at least twice the age of most of the participants!, and Tuesdays conflict with another event my husband goes to (he claimed the Tuesday first, only fair). And I don't go to Tekko bc....well.....I'm actually not into anime or manga at all. I'm a total doll geek, though, and am currently a big Volks fan. I decided to get a Dollfie Dream (and now have an MDD on the way from VolksUSA) after I wandered through the "other sections" of Volks sites and fell in love with my Yukino, whom I adore. So what brought you into this fabulous hobby? What part of town are you in? You're probably a lot younger than me. OMG someone else from Pittsburgh!!! Jezrah Posted May 10, 2012 So what brought you into this fabulous hobby? What part of town are you in? You're probably a lot younger than me. I got into this hobby from seeing Danny Choo's girls, and I discovered him as the Dancing Stormtrooper on YouTube I've always really liked anime since I was little, and I also love dolls, so this is a great match. Also, I was drawn to how customizable they are. I found out about the Denny's meetups literally yesterday night which was right after it would have ended I'll have to try to make it the next month. I live in North Versailles more specifically, so Monroeville is super convenient to me. But my husband drives an hour out of town for his hobby, so I would too if it came to that. As for ages, eh, I'm younger than some, older than others. It doesn't really matter too much to me. I'm looking for new friends to enjoy my dolly hobby with, so as long as they're not so young I have to get a parents' permission to hang out it's fine. charlieriley Posted May 10, 2012 I never heard of Danny Choo until I started with the Dollfie Dream Yukino! How funny is that? One DD owner he isn't responsible for! Sometimes I think I'm the only one. Oh, cool, you can make those meets pretty easily. I have *NO* patience for traffic. None. Perhaps one day I'll invite the meet to my (fairly large) house in Dormont just for a change of venue. And so I can actually be there. "...so as long as they're not so young I have to get a parents' permission to hang out it's fine." Yeah, I have a 12 year old dolly Twitter friend, and I'm *uber super careful* about what I say to her. I worked with college students for over 20 years, so I'm comfortable with a younger crowd, they're just not so comfortable with me--and when they are, I always end up being everyone's mother. I'm not ancient, btw, I'm 50, which to a 19 year old may as well be Old Fogy age. I got into bjds because of the customization possible, so the possibilities with DD are a big part of my draw to them, too. Being able to change body parts without compromising the integrity of the doll (like with a lot of bjds) is a HUGE plus. I changed out my Yukino's bust the first day I had her! I've ordered an MDD with a DDH04 head and a couple pairs of extra hands. I'm really looking forward to painting her--I'll probably do a faceup halfway between natural and anime. Could be a fun look!
