A DD on the way! Is this everything I'll need?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just won my first Dollfie Dream lottery (using Wolf's guide). So my Beato may be here around June. What should I have ahead of time so that I'm prepared to unbox her and find her a spot right away? Here is a list of items that the guides have led me to think I should have ahead of time so I can set her up right away without worries about posing and staining. Keep in mind I'm a NEWBIE! Any advice is appreciated.

#1 Body Suit

#2 Wig Cap

#3 A casual outfit that won't stain her body

For #3 when/where is the best way to get a nice casual light outfit? I saw a few I liked on Volks USA under their clothing section, but they were gone by the time I re-visited. How do I know when they have in new regular release outfits?

I'm also considering getting a glass case, any thoughts on this? I have many figures and I don't use glass cases for them...but I'm wondering if a Detolf case might be the way to go for her

If you want certain outfits from Volks USA, you'll have to follow their blog closely, and be ready to order as soon as they are up. Keep in mind that most Volks outfits do not include shoes or socks either.

There are quite a few other vendors out there for DD clothes too! Check out the "Vendors" section here. I really like Nightfall myself! You can also buy Azone's 60cm SAR series from Hobby Search or HLJ.

I've seen some people use Detolfs for Dollfies, but keep in mind you'll have to leave out one of the shelves. You'll probably want a stand too. Beato's dress would work almost prefectly with Volk's C-type stand.

I decided against another Detolf when buying a case for my and the GF's DDs recently and went with a tall Besta series shelf, also from IKEA, instead. It's taller than a Detolf and has customizable shelf height, plus you can get optional glass shelves or half-depth ones and put them wherever you want. What's cool is that you can also choose doors, ours has double glass doors that go all the way from top to bottom, but you can get wider, shorter doors, so you could have two levels of display and one level of hidden storage, or whatever. You could fit three levels of standing DDs in it if you wanted, but I set ours up so the two top levels have plenty of headroom for the DDs, and then the bottom is figures.

The only thing that really sucks is the price. Ours was around $200 with doors and extra shelves and everything.

Will that size fit someone as busty as Beato?

@ Max - That price doesn't sound too bad but that probably doesn't include shipping huh? Do you happen to have a picture of your gals in the case? Perhaps on Flickr?

I don't have the shapely L-bust yet, but I've had no trouble with Azone's tops on my L-bust girls at all.

I am not 100% sure what the "SAR" designation means but I have a few Azone outfits and the DDdy fits them with no problems. Here is one of their sailor fuku's on Manami who at the time was a Standard DDdy bust:

http://www.figure.fm/post/en/17659/Drawing+with+Manami.html

If the DDdy chest can fit those Azone outfits, the Shapely L-bust will have no problems.

Galvatim is right about Jessicas site Nightfall... she has so many nice outfits for DD's. You can also get nice casual clothes from other places listed in the "Vendors" section like Alices Collections, Cool Cats, Nine9 Style and even MimiWoo on ebay.

As for your questions about a case, I don't put my girls in any cases or cabinets. I have them on top of my dresser in chairs or on their couch. I move them around and chaneg their clothes often enuff that they don't really require any dusting. But if you aren't going to mess with beatrice often, a case may help keep her cleaner.

Body stockings are nice but if you pay attention to the type and color of clothes you buy, staining isn't such a problem. If you want things to help keep your new girl clean, invest in a Mr. Clean Eraser or two for light dirt and such. Those will take off 90% of the dirt you'll get on a girl. For a serious stain, make sure to have some Oxy10 zit creme on hand. It works wonders for stain removal.

Also get a soft bristle tooth brush for brushing the hair. It's way easier to use one of those than a regular brush for humans.

I hope some of this info helps!

Billy

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Unfortunately my GF's girls aren't ready for pictures in it right now, I should be able to have something up in a little while, though. (They're not dressed right now because she hasn't made any long-term non-staining clothes for them yet.)

Maybe I can snap something later today though.

A magic eraser from Volks - soaked in a little water to clean minor stain (from certain kinds of dust, dirt, etc). Be wary - not to ruined Beato's face-up in the process (apply light pressure when cleaning).

On HLJ, under the Series menu (on the action figure/doll page), you can find Azones 60cm doll clothes by looking under Azone SAR series. The Azone SAV series is for 60cm male dolls. Which actually might be worth looking at, now that I think about it. I don't know what "SAR" or "SAV" stand for though...

Thanks everyone so much! I'll definitely look into all the clothing and cabinet suggestions! I'll also get cleaning tools right away.

If you haven't already, get a doll stand or DD-scale chair to sit on.

Mr Clean magic eraser can be found at the drug store or online, use it to fix scuffs and smudges.

You may also want a wig brush and styling spray or cream. After a while wigs can frizz out, and it's helpful to smooth down stray hairs for photos.

Congrats again about Beatrice.

I'll agree that a stand is one thing you may not think about as your excited about getting your first girl and looking at new clothes as well. I currently have 4 stands but only 2 types.

The first one I bought I just love - it's a large saddle type stand with a clear acrylic base from Dollfie World - I checked their site and they don't seem to have it listed now. I found a picture of it on Danny Choo's site, where I learned about it:

image.php?album_id=24&image_id=199

What I love this stand for is that it's very easy to put your girl onto even with one hand. Sometimes when getting them dressed or photographing them my hands are full and it's nice to be able to set her down easily so I don't have to lay her down. The wide base is also very stable.

Galvatim mentioned Volks C type stand which I think is the same idea just in a wood base.

I also have 3 thigh stands with the round acrylic bases from Cool Cat:

3~26.jpg

http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=sta_dd_01

What I love about these is they are so compact. The base is just big enough for her to stand on and it's pretty easy to get them into the stand. It does take 2 hands most of the time though.

Oh yes, I forgot stands! I'll vouch for the Cool Cats stands too. I have 4 of them, 3 are the small round ones and one is the regular square base.

They all work well and I have had no probs with any of them yet.

The thigh stand with the round acrylic base looks very cute. I might consider getting one. Currently, I have a waist stand which I keep around the house, and I use a large saddle type stand with a clear acrylic base from SELEN'S when I'm out of the house doing a few rounds of photo shoots.

I wish DW still had those stands, I really like the tripod hole idea, and they look nice.

I'm waiting for Volks to restock their Saddle Stands, the Cool Cat ones are nice but the shipping is so crazy on their stuff.

OH also I purchased the wig cap already but the white body suits were out of stock on Volks' site. I imagine they'll come back into stock by summer. Also I saw a few casual outfits I liked but I wasn't 100% sold on them, I'll keep looking around for an alternate outfit I like. One of the main reasons I purchased the cap ahead of time was because I realized they were selling Yukata and I have no idea if that's an item that sticks around year round on the site or not. I decided the red yukata is the best personality match for Beato However, the doll featured on the blog in a yukata wasn't a Dollfie so I hope the fit is good! Since I opted for red (from what I hear a notable staining color) I might have to buy one of the more extreme body suits a friend pointed out to me. After all, since no skin is showing I can really go all out and do my best to protect her!

I'd love a saddle stand, I'll have to keep an eye on them re-stocking. Luckily I have a few months to prepare for her arrival

I find that a picanto wig stopper is a big help to put Wig on. Otherwise, the wigcap will be too slippery

I just wrote to Dollfie World they expect to restock their saddle stands sometime in April.

I have the SKcat bodysuits and they seem to work pretty good.

PS - Got a body suit, Volks actually had one left

Something important to get close to your DD's arrival that you haven't yet mentioned is the treatment you should use if all your protection measures fail and your DD get stained.

Believe me, this happens. Not only can dark clothing start to lightly stain your DD through the body stocking (especially the feet when they're jammed into shoes) but I've had the unfortunate experience of staining my DD from dye transfer from her black leggings onto my fingers and onto her arms/neck/head when I was posing her afterwards. I didn't even realise until a few days later, it looked like newsprint smudges!!

So I ordered the following two products:

Remove-zit

Forumula 9-1-1

These two products WILL remove stains for the vinyl. I was able to get medium to light stains off my DD in four treatments of Remove-Zit which was cleaned off and re-applied every 2 days (I have seen examples of very deep staining being lifted out). The Formula 9-1-1 will help clean off the Remove-Zit between applications and is in general a good cleaner for the vinyl. I find using paper towel to both apply Remove-Zit (like shortening to a cookie sheet!) and clean it off (soaked with Formula 9-1-1) works well. Toothpicks come in handy in the tight creases of toes and between fingers.

A VERY VERY IMPORTANT WARNING:

When using these cleaners:

DO NOT GET IT ANYWHERE NEAR THE FACEUP. In fact, keep the head in another room far far away!

DO NOT WEAR CLOTHING YOU REALLY LIKE. If you get any Remove-Zit on your clothes it'll bleach it, and it's not water soluble so trying to rinse it off won't work.

REMOVE THE VINYL FROM THE ARMATURE. I learned this the hard way, by discolouring Elle's armature yellow, I will take pictures of the damage next time I change her outfit.

Remove-Zit has a shelf life of a year and is made to order. So you'll have to get a new one every year, but it is soooo worth it.

I'm almost ready now! But I realize I have no shoes for her! What size are DD feet? Currently I'm looking at the shoes at VolksUSA and Leeke World.

Any Volks shoes sized for SDs should fit DDs. I think the DD foot is just under 7 cm. Volks also has a couple pairs of high heeled shoes specifically for DD, but I heard they aren't so great.

Leeke World sometimes does DD size specific heels (usually they also fit SD16) for their events and they fit very well, their flats a bit loose but fit well on DD's wearing socks. ^_^
