rukitron Posted May 9, 2012 Hey everyone, Some of you may already know me from DOA, flickr, dollieh sanctuary, and the Southern California meet-ups facebook group. I use the same sn for all of them. General info: I own 3 dds. Mai (Mai Shiranui), Holly (HDD-04 head with D-Dy body), and Saber Extra (once volks USA has her ready...). I got into dds because they're so pretty and have a nice charm to them. I usually collect mostly action figures (transformers, figma, kamen rider figuarts)... After Saber, I'm probably gonna take a break on buying more dolls for a while. Such an expensive hobby, I can barely afford clothes and accessories as is. -Rukitron my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hydrostorm

Poofiemus Posted May 9, 2012 Hey there! Another familiar name from DoA. Seems a lot of us end up migrating here so we can chat about our girls over a whole forum instead of just one thread. I know what you mean about this hobby being expensive. Since I'm unemployed currently I'm pinching pennies too. Learning how to sew is definitely a good way to save money--while a sewing machine would be desirable it's certainly not required, and these girls are small enough that often you can make whole outfits out of stuff you find in the scraps/remnants bin or out of worn out, cheap human clothes from the thrift store. (Oh thrift stores, how I love thee! Every once in a while you can find DD size props and such in them too. I've taken to carrying an extra hand in my purse so I can check scale on stuff I happen to run into.) In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. baldylox Posted May 10, 2012 Welcome aboard! Always good to see a familiar name joining up. Nice to see you have a Mai DD too, I think she's a great girl to have and was very underrated when she first came out. And yes, the DD hobby can get really expensive. But it's so much FUN!!! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
rukitron Posted May 10, 2012 Thanks a bunch everyone. Yeah that feel when you get a new doll or outfit is a pretty great feeling. I tend to use b/s threads, alice collection, coolcat, mimiwoo, and nightfall for clothes shopping.
Mizuzu Posted May 11, 2012 Welcome! Hm well you know the best thing about this hobby is that you learn new things. Like sewing and so on. It's a way to save money too I guess! ^_^ But I can understand when people say it is expensive, indeed it is. I'm on a dolly budget too btw! No more dollies..ok just untill the mdd body comes out, then after that no more dollies ^__^;;
rukitron Posted May 11, 2012 I never really tried to sew, I can do a half-assed fix-up job, but that's as good as it gets so far. If I could sew, I'd do all sorts of stuff.
