DJStarstryker Posted May 11, 2012 Do your DD daughters have personalities? If so, how did you decide on them? Did it come to you right away, or did it come to you after a longer period of time of having her? At my house, Rin has a personality she seemed to come with right away. I actually didn't see Fate/Stay Night until 6 months ago or so, even though we've owned Rin ever since she originally was released. Coincidentally, the personality she came with is pretty much the same as the anime even with us knowing nothing about it. Meanwhile, Akira seems rather... mysterious so far. She didn't have a blatantly obvious personality. From the get go, we decided she was Rin's accidentally summoned servant for background reasons of why she lives here, but not much has been established beyond that. I don't know if it's just that she doesn't have an extremely strong personality like Rin or she's just quiet or what. I feel kinda bad feeling like I don't "know" who she's supposed to be, even though I do adore her. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
kymaera Posted May 11, 2012 I generally plan the basic personalities of my characters before they actually arrive. Zoe: Zoe pretty much emerged full-blown. She's pretty much pure tsundere/snark and from day one, she hasn't changed too much in the basic personality. Saber: Saber has changed slightly. She's based a bit on the Fate Stay Night charater, so her main traits were set from the start. But she's gained a bit more depth as she's also developed a back story that develops her a bit more differently. Aya: Aya was based on Ayaka from Negima to be the Ayaka ojou-sama character to Zoe. She's turned out to be a bit more quieter, though. Maki/Aki: Maki has been the most problem. I knew from the start who she was supposed to be, but M took over that role, so Maki had to be replaced. I've tried out another personality "Aki" but she still wasn't clicking with me. I have another idea for her which I'm thinking of doing. M: When I saw Beatrice offered, I knew she had be my M. I already had the character developed, so she hasn't changed a bit. Tia: Tia was a spur of the moment purchase, but I knew her role and personality fairly decent. She's still developing a bit as she hasn't had much screen time, but then, she's a wall flower, so she might not ever have too much.
Alphakitty Posted May 11, 2012 All of my girls have personalities, though it comes differently for each one. It's kind of the same as the "bonding" process for me: I only feel really connected to a girl once she's been fleshed out. This often takes restyling them and figuring out how they'd interact with the other dolls. Some of them I connected with instantly: Mari, Marisa & Sakuno especially (who coincidentally are my favorites atm) I had personalities for right away. Often a very expressive faceup (like Koko, mySQlab girl) kind of have a personality attached to them, which makes it pretty easy! Mariko was the same way (as soon as I ditched the teacher persona, which seems silly for someone so shy looking). And it's also easy when I know the character well--my Mari is very much Mari from Eva, and if I get Rise *fingers crossed* she's going to be... well, Rise! Others, though, I've had trouble with. Like you, Akira didn't really jump out at me as having a real definite character at all. I had a really hard time finding a wig that would work on her, and the DDS S bust is actually kind of hard to dress so I just kind of viewed her as a pain in the butt for a while--her being an impulse purchase probably had a lot to do with that as well. XD But on a whim I bought some glasses for her, and the second I put them on--bam! It came to me! She is a mischievous (but ineffective) mad scientist. I've thankfully never not connected with a girl (though SirNarwhal and I definitely have very different favorites). Sometimes it's a bit of a chore, and I did contemplate selling Akira for a while, but now I adore her so much the idea of selling her makes me very sad. I get pretty excited when there's a new girl on the way--fleshing out their personalities is so much fun! I'm still not 100% sure on Haruka, who should be here soon, but Lucy I already have plans for. DD Family: Mari, Saber Lily, Marisa, Soniko, Noumi, Kirino, Kuroneko, Sakura (DD Sakuno), Aerie, Akira, Kiki, Koko, Rose (DDS Mariko), Kureha, Ryoko, Lucy, Haruka, Rise, Extra & Alter! We got her as head+eyes only. She was given what was around at the time: a DDII M bust and Marissa's short wig. Somehow those things seemed to instantly suit her. However, because of those choices, she doesn't seem to have the same personality I tend to think of the default Akira DDS as having. I do see default Akira DDS as being mischievous. For some reason, Kira-nyan seems not quite that way. Either that or no one has noticed her mischief yet. You never know with this girl. She has a Portal turret plush (that's half her height) beside her right now that she plopped a DD-size knitted panda hat onto. That's been her most obvious mischief so far. So far the main things she likes to do is dress in maid or goth lolita outfits and serve tea to Rin. She also seems like a very cheerful girl. Maybe it's because of the Akira headsculpt's duck face smile. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
baldylox Posted May 12, 2012 Heh, do my girls have personalities? I would say that's a definite yes. All of my girls have some type of personality, whether it be really easy to see or not so much. Of course I have some that are way stronger than others are. I think each of my girls has a bit of me in them and that mandates how they act. While my personality trait that shows up in my girls is normally amped WAY up, they are still very much a part of me or show some side of me in one way or another. For instance: Miyuki is my Otaku girl. Just like me, she loves anime, classic video games and manga. But unlike me, this is all she seems to do. She's a very overboard version of my Otaku tendencies. And Rei is my protector and mother hen. Altho she is pretty laid back most of the time, like me, she will show a stern hand if need be. Of course, some of my girls push her buttons and make her fly off the handle a bit. But that's where her own personality shines thru. So while some of my girls have very strong personalities, some of them don't. Like my Yukino.... she's quiet most of the time but she's very girly, loves cats and enjoys cosplay. But she's not as vocal as my others so she doesn't come across as loud and boisterous. Mashiro is similar, she's very outdoorsy and loves wildlife and plants. But again, she's not obnoixious about any of it so she kind of blends in with the rest of the less "aggressive" girls. But I agree with what was said about how some girls come "ready to go" as soon as they arrive and others have to be figured out and present themselves to me with how they are going to be. Sprout came to me already set in her ways and she remains true to her old self when she belonged to Littlebearries. The same with my Elisabeth, she also came to me as her own character and she has stayed the same with me. But with girls like Mai and Ryomu, they were basic characters when they arrived but have both evolved over time to become their own girls with their own ways of doing things. Hopefully that makes sense. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
DJStarstryker Posted May 12, 2012 But I agree with what was said about how some girls come "ready to go" as soon as they arrive and others have to be figured out and present themselves to me with how they are going to be. Yep, I definitely know your girls have personalities. I'm a fan of your photo stories. I think it's neat that your daughters are all so different from each other. I also agree with the "ready to go" thing. If I win Rise, she'll be one of those. I'm turning her into a character I've been writing about for, literally, years. So, yes, her personality is very set. Actually, I'll be disappointed if I don't get a Rise, because I'll probably have all the pieces I need for her way before I find out if I win a lottery or not. Not going to give anything away other than what I mentioned off-handed in the Dolpa 27 post (which is that she's going to be a redhead with green eyes). She's gonna be the catalyst for me starting regular photo stories with my doll family. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
misskale Posted May 12, 2012 It's funny. Milly was one I thought I had figured out, when I was buying things before she arrived. Then, she got here and it was completely the opposite from what I thought. When I thought she'd be energetic she ended up shy and a little reserved. Yoko as well. I thought was going to be older and possibly like Misato. But, she got here and I realized she was sporty and just one of those really confident people who make good friends for someone who's shy and needs pushes to do things. SO, that meant Milly and Yoko really go well together. Amazingly well even.

Nekopon Posted May 12, 2012 I think all my girls have their personalities before they arrive but they tend to grow and change when I spend more time with them. They go through a lot like different clothes and wigs, and whatnot and it creates more to them each time. It's really magical but my Noumi will always be a little rascal, and Mariko will always be just a tad shy.
scripple Posted May 12, 2012 Yes my girls have personalities. Stories are my favorite part of this hobby, so my girls express their personalities though their behavior in my stories, and occasionally in forum responses and the like as well. As I'm not much of a planner story wise, all the girls tend to develop their personalities as the stories go along. Check out my new DollFun website. hihihellokitty Posted May 12, 2012 These are very interesting! I kinda like that your Akira took on a different personality, making her kinda unique I suppose ^-^ (not that all Akiras are alike, but you know, more like she stands out more ;D ) Mayu kinda just came with her own personality already XD Because of her sculpt/face-up type she just comes off as super adorable, bubbly, fun-loving, sweet type x3 And actually, as I am getting older, I decided I wanted a more mature girl as well, I guess to have a more relatable doll that I could dress in mature fashions rather than little girls clothes all the time hehe(I got Mayu around my 16th birthday, and now I am almost 20 ). So I thought of changing Mayu's personality to suit my wants....but as I thought about it, my mature plans for her would never work, she is meant to be that over adorable type, that's just her personality (also she is the type to get hurt/sad easily...she is sensitive). I am going to try her onto a DDS s-bust body soon (but will still dress her in her style rather than try to change her personality), and if that does not suit her I will have a body to create my mature girl ^o^. Also Mayu's personality allows me to dress her in cutesy, frilly, little girl things that I would never wear myself, but have always loved for some reason >u< So yeah pretty much her personality was pretty apparent upon her arrival, and hasn't changed since
aquilla429 Posted May 12, 2012 I've never make a pre-determined personality for any of my dolls any more as they always have a way of telling me exactly who they are. When they're so determined to be who they want to be, I don't bother trying to say otherwise, I just embrace it. A good example is when I had my Escalayer a couple years back. I named her Emmi and initially I envisioned her as just a cute cheery girl who is friends with everyone. When I got her home, it actually turned out that she was extremely flirty, confident and sexy. She just seemed to demand that I take saucy pictures of her, she was not only a tease, but a bit of a pervert too. She wasn't at all what I had planned, but you know, who am I to tell a girl she can't be herself, so I embraced her for who she was. I actually really miss Emmi and I really regret selling her, shes the only doll I ever regretted selling. Poofiemus Posted May 14, 2012 First off, I'd like to mention that any doll has to really suggest a lot of personality through photos alone to really stay on my wishlist for very long, so in order to even make it in the front door I have to be expecting a lot of personality from them. Agatha definitely has a lot of personality, but her moods are rather mercurial, so sometimes it can be hard to get "into her head", so to speak. It used to bother me, but now whenever I feel like I'm not particularly close to her I think of it as her just not feeling particularly social that day. Other times though she practically barges in and demands something be done or said on her behalf. Making her desires known is all or nothing with that girl! In her case her basic personality and backstory was dictated by the comic character she's based on, though admittedly she's diverged from the character's temperament a little bit over time. (I think this happens to a lot of us with character dolls, to be honest. It's pretty cool to me!) Still, like I said, sometimes the "connection" to her feels like it comes and goes, like she doesn't always want to talk about things. Nanoha, on the other hand, is a very straightforward person, just like the anime character she was based on. It's kind of funny, from photos I was a little worried about whether or not I'd "bond" with her, because in some shots she seemed to exude personality and in others felt like she was just standing there. I also wondered even after I hit the order button if she'd actually be Nanoha, or if she'd end up being someone else (if she did, I was considering Holly and Audrey as names). But the second I opened her box, there was no doubt whatsoever! She was Nanoha through and through and just couldn't possibly be anyone else. There are some things about her that surprised me, for instance a sexy, flirty side I hadn't expected to be there until I made her little black dress based off Jade Pixel's pattern, but they fit so well that sometimes I have to remind myself that these details weren't ever covered in the anime series she originated from. I suppose it makes sense that I have such a strong sense of who my dolls are, even though they're inanimate objects. I always had a similar "bond" to a lot of my toys growing up, and bringing characters to life is one of the big reasons I got into animation in the first place. My girls, and Pancake, are largely extensions of that. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
smallricochet Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Yeah. Usually using what I see in promo pictures as a base, what sort of personality would likely form those expressions. Edited May 5, 2015 by Guest
SchroedingersCat Posted February 8, 2013 Well, since someone else has already done the forum necromancy, I'll just jump right in here XD I didn't really set out to create specific personalities for my girls, they just came along as they went. Nerina turned out to be a shameless hedonist. She loves attention, getting her hair brushed and dressing up in different clothes to show off her rather nice figure and she's extremely proud of her long flowing locks that very nearly reach to her feet. She's sort of a big sister to my other two girls, and bosses them around relentlessly. She can also be very cheeky, and always seems to be wanting something more. Anna is a complete sook, and an utterly unrepentant geek. Whenever I'm playing games or reading, she always seems to be staring at me with a look that seems to say, "let me play too", and she always wants to snuggle or be held. Sakura is a bit harder to define. She's very quiet and dignified, and gets overshadowed by the other two a bit. It doesn't seem to bother her though, and she really gets along well with Nerina. Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!
mistyaera Posted February 8, 2013 >> Following suit since I wasn't around on the forums the first time this was posted... I love seeing my girls take on personalities, even if they aren't always what I plan... My Mariko, Misty, is generally very sweet if not a little demanding. By a little demanding- I mean very demanding. I dealt with her chasing off other girls (Rise & Rin) before she realized that Yuki was staying. She always gives me a sweet & innocent look but the second I try to bring another doll around she starts looking so put out. She loves attention, I know, it's not what I really planned for her- I wanted her to be sweet and charming, and she is... she just has her own backhanded way of getting what she wants. Yuki... whose name I kept Yuki... is probably the most genuinely sweet of the bunch. She is shy and passive and just a really good person. She has a lot of sadness in her, though, almost melancholy, but I really love having her around. Misty wasn't sure about her presence at first but they get along pretty well. Of course, Yuki is also very prim, proper, and is easily scandalized, so I can't really dress her up like I do Mariko. But I love her just the way she is. Aoko, my Juliette, is the spitfire of the group. Of course, she's my "bad girl"- she's the headstrong leader who is ready to kick ass and take names. That said, she's probably the one doll that brings the others together, even though she's not home yet. She won't take shit from anyone... which isn't what I planned for her either (she was supposed to be closer to Yuki originally), but she decided that, no, this is exactly what she wanted. And then Haruka Niimi- who doesn't yet have a name still has a personality... she's my sex-bomb. She's also a little "dumb" but very kind and sweet. She's very perceptive with people, though (unlike Yuki) and doesn't easily get caught in awkward social situations. She's just not a practical thinker... but she tries her best and can be a little overbearing to the other girls sometimes because she exudes confidence. Nothing here ~ Left the Hobby Previously Loved: Rise, Mariko, Yuki M., Haruka N., Aoko, Rin
Soenatte Posted February 9, 2013 I'll jump on the necro-ed thread as well! xD Irie, my custom Aoi 1st, is a kind, bashful girl. She acts ignorant most of the time because of her self-teaching software that only records things after she comes to experience them. She's actually a type of gynoid manufactured by a scientist by the name of Karl (one of my friend's characters) and her main functions are to serve as a companion and take care of a household so her personality goes along with that, she's sweet and caring and becomes fiercely protective of Karl when others seek to offend him in any form. Momo, my still nameless DDS Momo, is a little mischievous one. She's a cute and proper lolita on the surface, delighting in frills and all things cute and sweet but in reality she's a fierce and dedicated fighter. She is also a gynoid but unlike Irie she's not built as a home helper but as a battle unit to act as a countermeasure anti-demon weapon, so I suppose that says a lot about her. Despite that she loves making friends and sharing her more normal activities with everyone. Yagate, who will be my boy Saber DD, has a well-established character even though he's not home yet. He's a self-assured, slightly cocky individual. He likes simple things, such as the smell of grass and laying in the sun all day and his preference lies in spicy food. Like his sisters he's also an android, however, together with his brother, they are experimental prototypes designed to mimic normal humans as closely as possible so he comes across as a lot more natural than the girls.
